- PO-128 Megaman Unboxing and First Impressions!
Today I'm unboxing and giving my first impressions of the PO-128 Megaman! This is an upgraded version of the PO-28 Robot, loaded out of the box with some classic Megaman grooves to inspire you, Megaman inspired display graphics, and the ability to play any of the 12 notes in the Western Music Scale in the same pattern (a feat that was previously impossible to achieve with Pocket Operators). All in all, I'm really excited to get to work with what is hopefully an instant classic. Enjoy the video!

You're right about the batteries. I thought I was going mad when my last PO came without them. I really like this PO. Thanks for the demo 😊
Yeah idk what's going on with that hahaha. Thanks for watching!
I picked this one up recently as well. And as my first PO, I'm excited to learn how they work and how to really put it through its paces to make fun and interesting tunes and music. Please keep up the great work, your vids are quite informative and helpful and they get me more and more excited to dive into the world of these crazy little music machines. :)
Thanks so much, and welcome to the PO community! Let me know if you have any questions!
Your videos have single handedly convince me to buy one of these bad boys
Hahaha thanks so much! I wish you endless amounts of fun!
@@FreeBeat thanks man looking forward lol
More fun from Free Beat, shredding with megaman
Thanks for watching!
This is like the thiccer brother to the PO-20. The PO-20 allowed some scale changes with the ability to chain chords. But it was still limited by just 4 sharps. The 128 is definitely a game changer when it comes to melodic possibilities.
They are honestly super different after using them extensively. The 128 is much more bare bones when it comes to song construction than the 20. Thanks for watching!
just want to thank you!!!! my fave yt page!!! truly informative!!!
Thank you so much!
You're the man! That was very helpful!
Glad you liked it!
@dj duey haha the one and only dj duey is in da house too. You're gonna have a lot of fun with it!
I’ve been loving this one! My po28 died after about 6 months, but from what I remember of it this new megaman flavor is definitely an upgrade. I’ve run into a few quirks where I can’t tell if they were intentional or not-they don’t ruin the fun, and actually lead to happy accidents. I’ll share more on that later, but the one that stands out most (perhaps my version is slightly different) is the when writing to a pattern through live playing... it seems like no matter how I adjust things, there’s extra swing added to the way my inputs are quantized. There are a some times when the quantization works as intended, but required way more precision than what I’d expect-much more difficult than with the other POs
I'm noticing a whole bunch of glitches when trying to play stuff in live, I can't figure out what's going on. Interesting, thanks for sharing!
Can't wait to get one of these guys. Just have to wait for the budget to recoup after the PO-133. It would be great to see one of these with the PO-20 and 133.
None of my POs have come with batteries, that would be pretty nice though. Great video as always!
Thanks so much! I'm excited to combine this with the PO-20!
Thanks for this. I got my 128 a couple weeks ago and I haven’t had much time to dive into it (I actually wanted to use this along with my Microcosm, TR-6s, and OP-Z for a New Year’s concert submission..but didn’t have time). I haven’t tried to work on patterns because I haven’t had the heart to delete the factory patterns....and I’m not familiar with the earlier PO’s workflow having really only worked with the Metal series.
Tou can restore factory patterns when resetting the device
Factory patterns can be restored
@@ildarkinildarkin you said it true dat
What they said!
Oh boi, this new feature is defo an upgrade and this PO 128 a serious machine :D
Yoga so much fun!
I'm jamming with the PO128 a couple of week and I didn't notice the pattern transposition feature 😱😱
Haha they don't really mention it, and in my opinion it's one of the best features!
Nothing like cracking open a unopened Pocket Operator...Having the option of changing pitch is huge...
That makes well worth getting
Yeah it's the first PO that I've actually felt overwhelmed by lol.
@@FreeBeat I yeah it now makes the PO no longer just a novel little music maker and more like a real instrument.
Love your videos. Am I correct in my understanding that the 133 is basically just PO-33 with built-in Capcom sounds? And the 128 is just a Robot with new built-in sounds. Trying to figure out if they're actually worth adding to my collection or not.
The 133 is exactly the 33, just different stock sounds. The 128 is an upgraded version of the 28 though. The biggest change is that you can now change individual note values to any note you want, and you can transpose entire patterns as well. Thanks for watching!
Hey! I know this video maybe 2 years ago, but just wanted to ask if you would recommend this little system for creating video game OST? If not im still thinking of getting one but just wanted to ask!
Honestly probably not, the sound quality just isn't there. They are pretty noisy little devices. Unless that's what you're after, in that case, go for it!
@FreeBeat Alright Thank You! Also Do You Know If It's Possible To Record the music from the Pocket Operator?
quick question, if i buy this, what cable is used to connect to a pc to record with ableton?
Just a normal 1/8" aux cable with an adapter into whatever your computer or audio interface takes.
@@FreeBeat Thank you For your reply :)
I've got the PO28 and that's quite a good upgrade of features. These POs all amaze me, I'm still impressed they can squeeze all that tech under the screen, but I'd still prefer a proper cased option.
An actual cased PO would be sweet, especially for the more viable ones like the metal series or the megaman!
Aw, missed the NYE show. Do you post replays of the show?
I sure do!

Enjoy :)
Have you done any videos on microtonic? I'm unsure if It's worth the money alone, plus I already have a po32 that is offered as a bundle and don't think I need two of them
I haven't done any videos yet. The software itself is incredible...if you're into sound design that is. Once you have the software you can make whatever sounds you want and then load them into the PO-32 Tonic. It's ridiculously powerful. However, if you're not into sound design, you can just download other folks kits right onto your PO-32 without the need for the Microtonic software. Thanks for watching!
Man I want the Megaman pocket operator. Most of the music sounds like from Mega Man 2. First tunes from Willy stage I believe. I'm surprised Metal Man Stage Music isn't in here, besides Willy stage is like the best. My Megaman X tattoo is tingling just from the sound. Although that price tag... is keeping me back
The po28 robot can do a lot of what the Mega Man can do, so if you don't mind being locked into c major and a minor it's a bit cheaper than the Mega Man
@@FreeBeat is there a difference between them? What could explain the cost? I have played guitar, sing, write music, and mostly made more punk-rock covers for older music for like 15+ years. I just got a Novation Launchkey mini mk3 and the Arcade PO(partly because of your videos) So I'm really trying to create a new sound in my music. Sorry, I went on a tangent there.
@@jordanWAH The PO-128 can play all 12 notes, the PO-28 is locked into Cmaj/Amin with an additional G#. There are a few other minor upgrades but that is the big one
Amazing 1st look video. No wonder they out of stock really fast. Got to wait until Feb. A question at the 7:58 mark of your video if you please to answer [Solved]. When you exited write mode and hit play mode, you played few notes that went on repeat. Now, this might be a very basic question so sorry, but how did you make the note repeat (loop) while it was on play mode? I am asking for the PO Robot, so it might be different on each one. Thank you. (Edited) I just figure it out as I was playing around. So you press hold write while you are in play mode. I will leave the rest of the comment for who ever have the same question.
You got it! If you're not in write mode, holding down the write button enters into live record mode!
Which one to get this one or po-35 speak?
If you want to write little songs then the 128 will be better, if you want to experiment with sounds then the 35 will be better for you
Sounds great
Thanks!
yeiiiiii i'm the 100 like ;)
Haha thank you!
