I didn't even realize that those wings on the shoulder buttons were there for any other purpose besides adding integrity to that flimsy button. Nintendo deliberately making these buttons as weak as they are is pretty awful. I'm glad my New 3ds XL just has replaceable ribbon cable shoulder buttons because I don't have a soldering microscope to complete this job on my 2ds and I'll just have to buy a new motherboard.
thanks for the video. i pulled the pad off RZ in the middle of the 3 pads on top when viewing in this orientation. can i make a trace directly to the MB or do they have to run with the lines that protrude from the pad?

Don't need a microscope for this repair. It's definitely harder and more eye straining, but it's not that bad.
