i've never watched gossip girl but, to me, jenny's style just screams "taylor momsen starring as taylor momsen" i.e. automatic slayage

some discussion on GG subreddit say she was going to quit the show if she couldn’t dress this way. she just put her personal branding above a show which considering how often shows like that lock people in a niche forever was pretty smart
Cassie's style was heavily influenced and inspired by Hannah Murray's own style. I remember back in the day she said that she somewhat regrets giving Cassie her "personal appearance", as it felt like she lost the license to her own style when Cassie gained it, or her own outfits became a costume or character wardrobe. Maybe she feels different today, seeing how just much authenticity and life it gives Cassie.
its kinda interesting to see that most of the looks that still look good today fall into that like tumblr girl era. i definitely see that starting to trend rn
In the oc, lead actress Mischa Barton who was a “Chanel girl” of her day had a large influence of her character and wanted her to wear designer. She is quoted saying- “I started getting Chanel to send stuff. I started having these designers send stuff over because I saw the merit in getting that kind of stuff on television. It was interesting: If I had those connections in the fashion world, why not? [The wardrobe department] would totally have been happy just dressing us as regular teenagers, to be honest. Not in a bad way, we would have looked adorable, but we would have been just your average Orange County teenagers. But with my wiling and conniving I was like, 'You know what would be super great is if we could get this Chanel dress for this [prom] episode,' and it kind of all came together.” But the handbags were mostly fakes.
yeah i had heard that the bags were mostly fakes, especially in the first season! didn’t realise how much of an influence mischa had though, that’s awesome!

Yes! Do the “Skins” lookbook! I genuinely went from Cassie to Emily (including the wine-red bobbed hair) to Grace as my style inspirations during the tumblr days. Only to realise I think I just want Effy’s leather jackets and black dresses now.
i remember back in 2012/2013 tumblr era everyone was obsessed with effy stonem from skins, both her style and her personality in general so yeah skins is definitely iconic !
people were obsessed with her since 07 when the show aired lol...

Yeah, the polo trend was huuuuge in the US. Specifically the skin-tight colorful polo, usually from Abercrombie or Hollister. They were so aggressively long (to be worn with low-waisted jeans ofc) they made your proportions look absolutely wild
agreed, or from Aeropostle, layering polos or layering tank tops under them for a strange color block look was the way to wear them too lol.

jenny always serves like she has never disappointed me. And Blair will be always my role model, she has such a unique style and you can tell she expresses what she is feeling through her outfits

I watched the OC as it aired and it was one of the most unattainable styles ever, because I lived in Alaska. lol. I also still think about season 1 all the time, it is a part of my soul at this point. Same with season 1 of Gossip Girl, loved that too, never finished the show, but gods did I love it. I would love to see more videos like this, this was so much fun!
Venessa’s outfits were definitely what people wore during that time. It’s just compared to the “classic” looks the rest of the cast gavex it made V stand out in such a bad way.

I love late y2k/ early 2010s stuff. Its the right amount of 60s mod, 80s casual, 70s hippie/boho, while being edgy and colorful. Idk, when done right it’s gorgeous. Like the flow of the outfit is always good. While having tons of personality.

I found some really great pieces (including a little blue ruffled cardigan that ties at the neck that I’d usually never try cause I like my cardigans to be knee-length, but was inspired by ur cream and pink ones that were kinda similar, and I ended up loving it!). Hi I'm an American who was in high school during the airing of The OC... Yes, we wore those Hollister/Lacoste/Ralph Lauren polos, we even layered them 🥲🥲🥲 i actually grew up in the OC area too, so the clothing in this show is exactly what the preppy and beach kids wore. The other kids were MySpace emo/Scene kids.

YES SKINS VIDEO PLS! I only managed to see bits of it & pictures at the time, (I'm American and it was only on some premium channel rerun plus my parents wouldn't have let me watch it!) but its influence on my style was HUGE. I wished I could dress like Effie then but now I'm more inspired by Cassie. Watching all of it later reminded me how iconic it was, both in fashion and film. Euphoria rly is its spiritual successor.
