My 81 yo dad passed away Nov 30th and we was a retired pipeline welder of 40 years, I came across your videos and a lot of what you are doing brings back memories. I helped him build a bed when I was in high school. I worked two summers with him as a helper (long enough to realize I didn't want to be a welder!) He thought it would make me want to go to college. I ended up an electrician instead! The comment about grinding towards windows reminded me of the coaching I got before I went on the first job with him. He told me the exact same thing. He used to call it "Buckshot'. He would tell me to make sure and fold in his side mirrors too for the same reason. He ran the same SA200 he bought new in 1976 when he went from a fab shop to rig welding. He only had that machine for the whole 40 years. He said he thought about having one chopped but heard other guys had trouble with them overheating (no such thing as aluminum radiators and not many electric fans yet). He only had three trucks (73 Ford F350 with a built 428, 80 GMC C30 with a buitl 454 and an 89 Chevy C30 with a stock 350) and never financed any of them. it was a good thing too since when Reagan was president the economy went to shit and he had to work single hand for a while and probably would have lost anything he financed.
our weldin bed is on a 1978 model 359 pete its my 2 door sports coupe ,400 cat and a 13 over weve been runnin it that way for 30 years in our Road Boring business, If you take care of yer equipment it will take care of you . Oh yea I enjoy yer video"s there Short Bus !
When you grind or weld around glass in the future throw a welding blanket over it or go get you some 3m sticky paper its not cheap but it protects your glass from sparks. Beds looking real good.
My truck got all Windows the same way even my dually fenders side bed. Another thing that helps break those flats is have an angle iron breaking from the inside out either on the truck like you did or on the ground. Over all bed coming it great
I was also gonna put in my 2 cents about that third bend , take yer clamp that you"ve got attached to the bed then flip yer metal on it"s side , using a piece of 2x2 angle iron or your reciever hitch which ever is handy at the time ,clamped off to yer upright and then just walk it around .
I've made a living for years with tools and trucks and the more tools you can carry the more versatile you are the faster you can work the better work you can do the more money you make. Having a bob bed like that just puts less money in your pocket
I have 2000 Chevy Silverado reg cab that body style. I'm not around pipe work . I have a 8-1/2' flat bed carring 305g small twin tank air compressor tourch and couple tool boxes . I seem to be needing more space on the bed. Plus no room for anyone to ride in the cab. If my truck didn't have 306,000 miles I would think about the dully converion
Are there pipefitters on pipeline?? I don't think I've heard of pipefitters on there... But if there are I'd like to look in to going out in to the pipeline world
The welder guy that comes of for our farm stuff drives a 1 ton van with a trailblazer is the backseat and exhaust out the side and stacked up above the roof
Sorry if this info was already posted. But where are you guy at? I'm trying to research where the hot areas are as I'll be looking for a helpers position in 4 months. Thank you for the great content and God bless.

Fuentes Artist if you say so. Thanks for wisdom
Short truck is also nice if you have to turn around on the row to back down a section
John C oh very true
Hey Jacob how about expanded metal bottom on the jack box... or some large hole plate so all the dirt and water and snow will drain out
To make a good drain in a tool box, drill a 3/8” or 1/2” hole, heat the area then hit with a ball peen, peen end in the hole, nice and clean drain
The saratoga hot springs are legit. It's like a pool. Wouldnt go there specifically for it but if youy're in the area.
BUCKYWHEATS my wife parents are in Laramie so I might need to swing up there for a soak one day.
Nice video man i was goin about it all wrong
Jay b what do you mean Jay
What"s the three thing"s that Hooker"s and Welder"s have in common they both want longer rod"s ,less heat and more money !
You forgot kneepads and expensive-ass boots, too! Ha!
Great video but I was wondering where did you get the preformed side skirts
Really interested to see what you deck looks like when your done we build them quite a bit different here

Why did you not use the brake you made that mounts on the back of your welding truck to bend your metal?
Robert Godwin it didn’t work near as good as I had hoped failed design just need to rebuild it now with what I learned.
Hi: are you getting screwed with the pipeline shut down ? Good luck.
The welder guy that comes of for our farm stuff drives a 1 ton van with a trailblazer is the backseat and exhaust out the side and stacked up above the roof
Big Bud that sounds wild and I hope that thing never leaks. Does he just open the sides up to get air?
Where are you working now? Looking to talk to as many welders as I can! On the east coast now looking to become a helper
Question, when you measure to brake the sides of the boxes do you add a 1/16" to make up for the bend?
Charles Million I don’t that’s why I left the one side long so I could cut it for the final fit
Hey boss, did you ever mention where you got those nostalgic weldor's glasses from? Pretty sweet!
Tommy T I believe he said the other day Tom Walker?
Search tom waters on Google. They should be called full rim pipeline spectacles.
Dalton W Bingo! Thanks bud!
Tommy T yes sir you can get them at tom waters there is a three week wait on them
Jacob Schofield Thanks Jacob, I plan on getting a pair (prescription) this summer. Keep up the good work bud.

Todd Dunaway I’m just waiting on a call I’m hoping end of next week the thing gets finished up. And yes it will go on that truck
Did i miss you guys finishing rhe welding jackets?
Hector Perez no hector you didn’t I need to film us seeing everything together.
Jake, was that truck originally a long bed, or a short bed? Thanks for the videos!
Justin Schmidt it is a long bed.
I'm with ya on the "snubbed up" look ! i don't like that mile of metal on ass of the truck...
What kind of chop saw is that?
Ethan Logan I’ll need to go look but it’s worth the money
Is that the truck ya put the dual conversion on?
Gonna look slick!!! Just swapped my dodge!!
Chris Courson yes it is
