I have listened to several renditions of this song including Charlie Monroe, several of Jerry Garcia, and to me, this is by far the best version out here...
Truly my favorite version of this song. So melodic and dynamic. I’ve watched this video more times than I care to admit, in part, hoping to steal a lick or two off Fred. It finally occurred to me that he’s tuned to open D, playing in open G w the capo. Just like the banjo. What a cool arrangement.
This is so good, guys. Great song, great singing, great playing. Your banjo playing is great, of course, but I'm fascinated by your dad's fingerpicked accompaniment here; it works so well. More!
On your own, with Frank Fairfield, with Blind Boy Paxton and now with Dad! All fab. I suggested, about a year ago, you put your videos on a bandcamp download. Which you did. Might be time to do it again
Thank you for listening. A while back I created a page for my husband and named it Legendary Unknown Singers and Musicians. He was definitely that. I decided to jump in and post three songs. I dedicate these to my late husband, Chuck, and to Karla Bonoff. Thank you, Karla, for your wonderful music. You are an inspiration.
This was great! I just started busking here recently and, if I'm not mistaken, i thought I had seen where you used to a lot as well? If so and only if your up to it, I would love to hear about it
Thanks, Justin! Yeah, there were a couple of years where I basically made a living from busking, mostly playing fiddle and some banjo. I over did it a little bit and started having trouble with my hands. If you’re not depending on it and just doing it for fun, it’s a great way to practice!
Outstanding top to bottom on one of my favorite songs. Don't hear enough two-finger banjo.
Ok,ok...we need more.of y'all together...love when u both sing together, then one goes like an octave higher..want more

Excellent as always. Would love to see more of you and your dad together.
Glorious! 👌

Thanks, man! He’s a banjo player too, and I think sometimes he plays the guitar kind of like a banjo.
Love it guys. I have learned much from both of you.
Nice! Man that is one ringing banjo in your hands! Nice harmony… And I gotta say that that’s a fine lid you’re wearing!👍
Great playing and singing ! Great tune ! Thanks ! m

❤️🤘🤠
they seem to be playing id key of B
any idea what's the banjo tuning?
Tuning is G-C-G-C-D, tuned down a little lower.
Is your banjo in double C tuning?
Zac, where’d you get the hat? Is it a Stetson?
That’s my dad’s hat. Don’t remember the make but I don’t think it’s a Stetson.
