You've literally changed my mind about people who keep snakes and a bit about snakes themselves! I used to shun them. Especially as pets. I don't think I'll ever keep one due to the missing "affection" a snake can show you compared to a dog (yeah I know.. it's an unfair comparison) and I've never advocated anyone keeping a snake or reptile in an enclosure as a pet. You've changed my mind on that part. Maybe not to a full 180 :) but you've definitely changed it for the better. The love, affection and sheer determination you put into it is admirable and respectable. Just getting in there and helping that snake out, building her a new enclosure and tackling a big and new aspect of what you do just because the snake happened to be in need of someone to take care of her really speaks for you. So even if I don't keep a snake myself I do enjoy your videos. So much so that I've subscribed. And set the "dinger" to get updates on her :) Keep up the good work!
it depends on how you define affection, when they`re completely calm around you and you can pet them, it`s because the snake trusts you, a dog will really love you but it`s a completely different animal, snakes don`t show signs of liking someone but certainly trust someone
I haven't had a ton of exposure to snakes like goherping here but I've had a ball python before and a few reptiles and honestly it's hard to say they weren't affectionate. A snake can, just like nearly every animal, feel the atmosphere and form a bond of trust and familiarity with people. Snakes also enjoy warmth and are curious creatures, so they will enjoy smelling and exploring and getting familiar with their owners. A snake will totally coil around you for warmth and seems to enjoy contact and light scritches; they don't have the same social structure or interaction methods of most animals (dog tail wag/licking or cat marking you with their cheek rubs) but I personally believe they are affectionate and enjoy handling from people they trust.
My boas like climbing so I'd recommend getting something for her to climb on this could be as simple as installing some PVC pipes along the top of your cage.
Conner Jones I just re read what you said, I thought you meant yours specifically(like your animals only) so my bad, can’t wait to get my boa a 6x3x3 bioactive setup tho.
GoHerping. From one Boa keeper to another, I love your setup so far and what you plan on adding. Besides a branch to climb on which others have already mentioned it would be good to add small vents on the back and/or sides of the enclosure to allow more air ventilation. Also a radiant heat panel will probably work better for a snake and enclosure of that size. The led lights will be fine as long as they're on a timer or if you keep up with the day/night cycle yourself. Good luck! ☺ Edit: She needs deeper/more substrate as well. It looked sort of sparse at the end. If you ever had any questions about boas or their care I'd be happy to help! Edit #2: saw someone mention fake plants. They actually work great for hides and so does moss. My boa uses the plants and moss more than anything else and the moss helps a lot with the humidity as well.
@@RezaWorlock how big is the snake? Most go by the "an enclosure that the front and one side are equal or larger than the size of the snake". Really it depends on how much money you have to spend and how big your snake is.

I think a nice big branch would be good, I've heard these guys like climbing. Get some greenery and this tank could be a beautiful focal point in your reptile room!
GoHerping maybe a bio active tank setup love your vids and you made me know that snake and reptiles over all are not scary now I have a ball python named Loki
You could definitely add some green LED strips to give it a forest kinda vibe. You could also try to make a realistic rock background out of Styrofoam. Good luck with her! She’s a beauty 😊
K.L. Smith Well if you are still doing that offer, I am thinking of treating myself to getting a boa and am wondering if a 20g aquarium would be suitable for a baby between 18-24” in length until I can build a terrarium like Alex’s.
You did a great job reading her body language and cues, and holding her appropriately! Around a leg, the waist, under and arm, over the shoulder are all great positions for large snakes, and it is always good to keep hooks on hand just in case. Keep in mind she needs good humidity, im sure she will fire up a little and be more comfortable if given not only a nice warm lamp (they will use uvb too of course, id stick around 6%), and they do take advantagr of basking shelves and elevation, they spend a good amount of time climbing (parrticularly when young and hunting nestling birds). Dont worry about feeding her too often, an adult boa constrictor can easily become obese if overfed. She is a great size, a big meal once a month or so should be plenty. You don't want her to be flabby and squishy, lean muscle is ideal. You did handle her confidently when retrieving her too haha, so greag work! Honestly the less time you give them to think about it, the easier it tends to be to pick them up. If you want to keep her humidity up I recommended adding a coco mulch like reptichip and mixing it into the soil to get at least 3 inches of substrate. She may even bury herself. They do tend to prefer cryptic basking too, which is where only part of the body is exposed at a time - clutter leaves, strong ferns, small trees, are their friends! She was probably very upset because she was being evicted from a long term home after not being touched like at all lol, but boas can be very chill snales with little provocation to be so. Just always be aware of where her head is, if she starts getting really tense or flighty try and get her moving to prevent a strike response, and def dont let her wrap your head or neck. Dont be afraid to ask for help either, nothing brave or smart about wrestling a 6 foot constrictor who is grympy lmao. And i guess be aware of her length when feeding and stay waaaaya away from that head! If she does wrap something she isnt supposed too always start from the tail and unwind her from tail up. If you start with the head she will just coil more tightly.
your dad did an awesome job. and so happy shes finally gonna get the owner she deserves :) keep up the great content, cant wait to see how she gets on.
please do more of these, been really thinking about getting a Boa (Red tail Boa specifically) and you really seem confident in learning this new snake. (glad she calmed down and doesn't hiss anymore~! :P) Really hope you do more, I actually stopped doing my chores to to watch you talk how she acted, and ESPECIALLY when you handled her out of her cage, that was magical. :) Good job man!
I feel sad that she didn't get to be regularly handled and stayed in one enclosure for most of her life. She could have spent that time learning with the class, and hopefully would go on to a nice college like Harvard.
Awwh she's such a sweet heart. Snakes may hiss and withdraw when you wanna take them out of their enclosures, but after they realize your not going to do anything harmful to her they become more relaxed. You are doing great and it makes me so glad to see her this happy :)
She’s so beautiful. It really is just building up a trust with the animal and patience. I think she’ll mellow out a lot in the future with proper hides and heat.
I was really confident that she would come around soon, BCCs are known for their docility. She's really amazing, congrats on how far you've come with her already :)
I was so invested in this as soon as I saw her! I am still invested! You will be a great keeper for her, even if it is your first time with a snake like this. Everything takes time! The enclosure looks great btw! Fantastic job. Love your channel! :)
I love her !! More videos on her and you should put leaves on the background of the enclosure because her skin resemble leaves so it’ll look pretty cool. Can’t wait for more videos on her !
I absolutely love Rosie 😭💕. She’s calmed down so much and seems like such a sweet girl, so happy she has a good home! Glad she got another chance.youre doing good work and I’m glad you’re working on her time with her getting used to you.I always smile seeing her in videos.
Wow, that's amazing! I'm so happy with her quick progress! It really does seem like she could have been a part of the class this whole time and that the teacher who housed her really just didn't spend any time caring for her other than feeding her. Based on the fact that there were no heating elements to her prior enclosure, it also would seem that this person didn't do their research before taking on or even after taking on such a miraculous animal. I'm glad she's thriving with someone who knows snakes well now, and I'm confident she'll become an ambassador for her species as she grows more and more accustom to her new, quieter surroundings and experienced handler. She's gorgeous. Thanks for rescuing her, even though she seemed like she'd be a pain to tame. She's really shown amazing improvement in such a short period of time. (Yes, I realize this video is old but I just watched her coming home video and this one in succession, months later. I'm sure she's even more calm now)
Fantastic job!! The confidence you show goes a long way with showing her your not a threat. I been raising boas a long time and I respect you just going in and grabbing her out! That’s how it’s done!! I’ve seen bigger guys that been doing it a long time shy away from what you just did. I respect that!!! Good luck with her.
What a sweetie, I'm so glad you found her when you did! I kind of hope that you keep her a while so she can be the star of more videos. I for sure want to see how she progresses
mehlahmyne is how its said basically. we use is lots in australia for our enclosures. I'd recommend putsilicone on the inner edges to prevent warping from any water spillage. I adopted a full size bredli python (i know not the same) hes only 3.3kg but he is 7"4 and tamer than her but it took a good few months for him to stop being head shy with me and actually stay on my body rather than trying to escape me. Just takes time and patience but youre doing a great job. (mine is now in process of being accustomed to lots of different people handling him so i can take him to schools)
Awww she's such a big beautiful girl! Im glad you now have her and can take such good care of her. Thank you for being awesome. Im learning so much from all of your videos...we just got our first baby BP last week, so we didnt know a whole lot. Enough to not be terrible snake parents, but we weren't the greatest either at first. We plan to buy pretty much all of your reccomended materials for a bioactive vivarium eventually.
You’re so amazing and encouraging just owning the fact that everyone is human and everyone has their own first times doing something. I’m sure not to many people handle snakes let alone 8 foot, 20 pound ones! You’re killing it! Keep inspiring people that snakes are friendly and not something to be feared. Even though I’m just getting into reptiles watching you handle them gives me the power to get over my fear to keep taming my reptiles and work with handling them. Not gonna lie glad I found you channel and I’m enjoying binge watching! Ps I love that you don’t cut out when your light batteries die! Give it a super real effect. Super relatable.
This is awesome. Glad to see she's doing better and being cared for. Looks like she's trusting you already and calmed down. My guess is that maybe she was able to adapt to handling so fast because she's already used to hearing human voices and seeing people (since she was in a classroom)? Anyway, your dad worked hard to make the new enclosure... Looks good!
Love this! I'm a BP owner but have been obsessing over boas and want to get one someday. Glad you rescued this big girl. That's awful how she was neglected at the school. Also, I don't believe ball pythons need a day and night cycle as they live underground in the wild and only come out at night..light stresses them out so they don't need it. Aweseom videos! I watch your channel all the time :)
Oh my god she's adorable! I know snakes don't show affection, but the way she just rubs against you shows that she's totally comfortable with your presence ^^
Snake handling is all about the handler, really. You've got to be gentle, slow, and most of all confident. I think most "aggression" problems in snakes, especially species which are normally docile, stem from improper handling. The snake can easily be frightened by jerky fast movements. Even the angriest of bullsnakes can be handled with some patience and kindness. You're doing such an awesome job with this boa
I am so Glad that she has Started to Tame down. And so Excited that You have Her! Im sure that You will do Great and be a Much better Keeper than that School was. But it is kinda funny, seeing you, who's videos helped inspire me to get my own reptiles, and taught me so much about them, are now back to square One with an animal who requires a completly new strategy for Carekeeping! (that baby girl Aint No Cornsnake or BallPython) Good luck! and i cant wait to see what you do next! 😁👌 ps. as far as enclosure ideas go, Long and sturdy Branches or anything she could kinda climb around on, they are mainly Terrestrial but do enjoy any sort of climbing if avaliable.
@@tikayle9130 Thanks! She is doing great! She grown a decent bit and has tamed down to be easily handled! I ironically just posted a feeding video of her eating yesterday to this account
Glad she's well! Glad you said something about the hide, I was going to but I waited till the end! Beautiful addition to your collection, hope all continues to go well!
Great video! You did a great thing by rescuing this snake. Since she's in your care, she's going to be set for the rest of her life. You and Ethan do a phenomenal job taking care of your animals. You guys clearly care a ton about their well-being and present your work in a way that's both informative and entertaining. I care for, and rescue, reptiles and amphibians like you guys, but I've been unsure about making a channel showcasing it. It seems pretty daunting.
Very nice! I plan to eventually get a red tail, but I'd like to get a baby and watch it grow over time. I'm glad you rescued this girl, maybe one day she'll see what you did for her... maybe.
Add an acrylic or screen window on the lid and put a basking light that only puts out a small amount of heat. Then get some drift wood or other wood and make a spot for her to bask (it'd be beautiful for Instagram shots!). If this cage is long-term I would even commission an artist to paint a jungle on the inside of the back and sides to add a bit of color! For other decor I would suggest creating planters on the sides of the tank that have vines or etc. because she'll probably squish anything that's on the bottom. You could even probably get pet safe, water-proof clay or some other sculpting material and make the water dish naturalistic - but that would probably be a bit inconvenient. Anyway, I think the cage is great like it is for now! It's obviously well made and works really well so I wouldn't worry about decorations unless you really want them! Whatever you do with it, I'm sure the boa will be happy just to be getting some attention and a cage with actual heating!
very nice job on taming her :-) like your way to go with it. seems like when you are calm with the animals and really feel good for them they feel it back. great video!
I’m very new to your channel, but I can say I love your content and you have rekindled my love for reptiles. And are definitely inspiring me to be more open with all reptiles. Keep up the great work and can’t wait to see the progress you make with the new boa!
I commend you for rescuing animals & giving them better homes 👍 the only thing I didnt hear you mention getting for her was some kind of tree. Boas are arboreal & hangout in trees alot. Good excise climbing too :)
I love to see how much she changed in her behaviour. I got myself a young Boa 3 years ago. Prepare for more face massages xD I don't know why, but mine REALLY loves going on my head and drops on my face in the process.
This incredible to see a bassicaly neglected snake who has never had heat, sat in the back of classroom without being noticed finally get the respect she deserves.
She is looking great! Could you maybe add some ledges for climbing and stuff? Boas are so big that it can be difficult to find things sturdy enough for them to climb safely, so ledges are great!
I love boas! Happy to see you got one. I remember when I got my first boa, I remember how strong they held on to me compared to a ball. When I hold my ball pythons they kinda flop around but the boas hold onto me so I honestly feel safer handling them then the ball pythons. I don’t currently own any full grown boas however I can’t wait until they are full-size! I like boa constrictors because they’re good size snakes if you want to get into bigger snakes but don’t want to jump right into a real commitment like say a Burm or Retic python. Plus they have some beautiful morphs and patterns! They’re over all amazing animals and I hope to work with them the rest of my career! Plus who doesn’t like watching a snake give birth to love young! Gotta love boas
In addition to the hides and decor, (perhaps make the hide a platform on top for the snake to rest, doubles useable space) add something for it to climb and fake vegetation (or very strong real vegetation) as larger snakes love hiding behind it. I would also recommend adding more ventilation.
I have been so stoked to be updated about this boa!!!! Thanks for the awesome video!! Got my first ball python (candino) and he’s doing great thanks to the help your videos have provided me!
Great video, she’ll be so much happier in there! Besides the hides and decor you’ll be putting in there I suggest putting a second level so then she can climb up to it. It’d be exercise and enriching for her :)

It's amazing that just the proper environment can completely change a snake's personality. So glad she's in a better home now.
So glad there are people like u that not just help these beautiful creatures but also share your knowledge. Thank you
Thank you!
I love watching your channel. not only is it informational and has a peaceful vibe, it’s super funny and enjoyable to watch.
She looks so much calmer and happier now. I think she knows she has a great home now.
Love that your dad is so supportive
Getting my first noodle soon and I've fallen in love with a boa constricter. This is very helpful
I'm so glad you have her now. She'll have a wonderful rest of her life
Amazing to see the change in personality once given some space and care. Fantastic creature you have there
thanks! i agree
Oh my god she's adorable! I know snakes don't show affection, but the way she just rubs against you shows that she's totally comfortable with your presence ^^
What a hear warming story. You were so meant to rescue her. 🙂
Boas are honestly so sweet there really is nothing like them, even through all that hell she's happy and calm and just amazing now.
She's absolutely beautiful. I would love to own a boa like that some day.
Definitely wanna see more of the boa! She’s surprisingly doing very well considering being locked inside a cage most her life
I am so Glad that she has Started to Tame down.
(that baby girl Aint No Cornsnake or BallPython)
Good luck! and i cant wait to see what you do next! 😁👌
ps. as far as enclosure ideas go, Long and sturdy Branches or anything she could kinda climb around on, they are mainly Terrestrial but do enjoy any sort of climbing if avaliable.
Greetings me from the past! You get your own Boa and name her Lucy. She is 3 years old and 5ft long and still growing!
@@Nz-tm3gs Best update I've seen in a comment for a while. I hope Lucy is doing well!
@@tikayle9130 Thanks! She is doing great! She grown a decent bit and has tamed down to be easily handled!
I ironically just posted a feeding video of her eating yesterday to this account
dude you are one of the best pet youtubers and youre out here hearting everyones comments
Glad she's well! Glad you said something about the hide, I was going to but I waited till the end! Beautiful addition to your collection, hope all continues to go well!
Good on you for giving this girl a good home. Really enjoy your videos. Hope to see an update video on her soon.
So amazing of you to rescue her! I recommend building a taller enclosure eventually because boas love climbing up branches!
It seems pretty daunting.
wow, thank you!
omfg, I almost cried. What you did is awesome!!!!
#videosliketheseprovePETAwrong
Very nice! I plan to eventually get a red tail, but I'd like to get a baby and watch it grow over time. I'm glad you rescued this girl, maybe one day she'll see what you did for her... maybe.
Could you do more content on her? I have a boa constrictor as well, and I'd like to learn more tips on how to take care of them from you!
She looks so much happier! Such a nice enclosure too
I’ve kept several red tails, they all loved to climb, spent all their time at the top of a vertical cage setup, rarely hung on the floor
Wowie, so much progress ! That’s gr8, I’m excited to see the finished enclosure/lighting/heating :)
very awesome progress.. pls keep us updated
Daddy Herp needs to sell these things he did such an amazing job.
Just found your channel, love your cinematography, music, reptiles, and passion for keeping them. Good vibes brother.
I think an RHP probably be a better heat source, she looks great congratulations on her new home😊👍
Glad she's taming down and doing better
You are wonderful. she seems so thankful and happy. Thank you so much.
very nice job on taming her :-) like your way to go with it. seems like when you are calm with the animals and really feel good for them they feel it back. great video!
She’s beautiful. Great you rescued her.Way t go dad!
She will love her new home!
In addition to the hides and decor, (perhaps make the hide a platform on top for the snake to rest, doubles useable space) add something for it to climb and fake vegetation (or very strong real vegetation) as larger snakes love hiding behind it. I would also recommend adding more ventilation.
I think the lighting will definitely be a nice touch! I also can’t wait to see what kind of a hide you make for her. :)
She looks so happy!! ☺️💓🐍
This is encouraging for people considering rescuing an older animal. Great job! Where did you get that tub?
I have been so stoked to be updated about this boa!!!! Thanks for the awesome video!! Got my first ball python (candino) and he’s doing great thanks to the help your videos have provided me!
great to hear, and thanks!
Also boas like hiding and climbing, so definitely a hide and a good branch to sit on.
Wow! This is such a transformation!!
Great video, she’ll be so much happier in there! Besides the hides and decor you’ll be putting in there I suggest putting a second level so then she can climb up to it. It’d be exercise and enriching for her :)
This is exactly the fantastic content I like to see from goherping. Well done.
wow, thanks :)
She looks so happy!!
