I'm scared to ask my parents what "essentials" that had back in the 80s...the pointless essentials that are on some of these moms list is out of control. Thank you! This gave me such relief.
I’m not even pregnant and I feel overwhelmed by how expensive society makes everything be, especially having babies! But you make it so much more relaxing and attainable, thank you for sharing.
Ashley Colley that’s why people complain and say they don’t want kids, cause they’re „too expensive“. I even was reading in a forum that they bought a new, bigger car so the stroller could fit in. Wow 🤦🏻♀️😅
This is refreshing to watch, I like how simple everything is. Also people always gift babies things so stuff like toys and extra outfits will always be gifted at some point! I’ve kept all my newborn clothes/muslin cloths/bibs in 4 small baskets, told myself if anything exceeds over a basket then I’m buying too much which I won’t end up using!
Great video. Wish I watched this way back when I had my first. The house was filled with crap that we used for short times. I’m expecting my third now...and I’ve gotten lot more sensible and minimal. Aside from diapers (we do both cloth and disposable), the only other items I’ve bought are baby sleepers and onesies, a Tula carrier and soft cloth wrap like the one you mentioned, bottles (we do both formula and pumped breast milk), a mini crib and a small bathing tub. Let me tell you, it’s a far difference from my first kid! During that time We had swings and all kinds of trinkets that I now look back as wasteful lol.
Thank you for your videos, they are so helpful. Have you ever done a video on baby 6 months + ... how you deal with transitioning from co-sleeping or co-sleeping in general? Crib is not an option for my little one so far... I am thinking we need to start the transition soon though.
Good! I can't even imagine how people don't co-sleep, but I only have one little one. She does not want to sleep alone and has been like that since the beginning. Everyone keeps telling me that it's bad and once you co-sleep you will never ever get her out of the bed. : /
Oh, for a baby that likes to be swaddled and worn... All three of my little blessings so far have despised both, and been strong enough to fight their way out of even the most expert swaddle!
I love everything u got! Im only three months but a little shopping now cant hurt :) I wish I had the will power to wait until the baby is born to find out the sex but I just don't lol.. Is this gonna be the last baby for u or are u leaving it in Gods hands??
Im expecting my second and Im so glad I found this video. I was on a budget and short on space with my first and I found that my baby list was a lot like yours, no crib, no changing table, etc. I loved multitasking items so I would use my exercise ball to bounce on with baby (instead of a glider), changed baby on the couch/bed/floor with receiving blankets underneath, used a soup thermos filled with hot water as a bottle warmer, and a $7 shower caddy as a diaper caddy that I could move around the house. A baby bath sponge and an inch of water in the tub meant I didnt need a big ol baby bath either. Before baby could roll, he was swaddled in a laundry basket and I would bring him inside the bathroom while I showered lol. My parents thought that was strange lol but it works fine. Moms are so creative and we dont need a million things. As long as baby is fed, safe, and comfortable they will be ok
Absolutely love this too! I'm 9 weeks pregnant tomorrow and live in a one-bedroom apartment. I want to own as few items as possible and thought I needed a changing table, but happy to know I don't! Just wondering if there's no crib, where do you put the baby down for its nap? I actually found gorgeous second-hand woven baskets for around €20 and thought of using that, which you can move around and even bring to outings since we don't own a car and won't be using a car seat! 🤗
Valises & Gourmandises for naps, I primarily used a kid size Japanese floor futon that my mom has from when I was a baby. Some other ideas are a pack-n-play (great for travel, folds compact for storage, and you can purchase a mattress separately to make it more comfy), a memory foam kitchen mat (you can roll it up after youre done with naps!), baby swing (not necessary but we got one used from a friend) and your bed. A basket is great idea while your baby is still small. After my son gained the ability to roll over, I felt more comfortable placing baby in my bed (peel back your blankets and sheets so baby isnt surrounded by fluffy items) since it is low to the ground and placed body pillows around him as a barrier. This second time around, I will be using a secondhand dock-a-tot for naps and co-sleeping and the pack-n-play. Prob will still utilize the floor for naptime as well. Do what you feel is comfortable and safe for your baby. Congrats on your pregnancy!
Valises & Gourmandises and absolutely dont need a changing table! I don’t even know why people make them a “musthave” item. Towel/receiving blanket/anything washable that you can spread out underneath is enough to absorb any accidents if they occur. You can easily add them to your wash and it gives you the freedom to change baby anywhere in their house. Most babies have at least a few poop explosions where their backs and onesies get soiled so I wouldnt want to change baby on a precious mat. Just an old towel will do and then immediately into the wash lol!
Glad I saw this...totally deleting a quarter of my registry. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and I want the baby in my room for at least the first year. Definitely don't want all the extra toys, gadgets and clutter.
I DESTINY theidestiny the american pediatrics association recommendations for Safesleep is at 6-12 mon in your room (not necessarily your bed). and if you think about it you can guess that this is how its done in most countries around the world. a "baby room" is an invention of high income families in the western world
I DESTINY theidestiny my babies are 3 and 1 and they both still end up sleeping in our bed and either I or my partner end up sleeping in their room 😂 or we all just still sleep in one bed most days. Definitely never bought a changing table.
lana lyamin so true! 😅 I’m due with my third in May, all girls! Literally the only thing we have bought is a mini crib because new big sister will only be 16 months old and not ready to give hers up, but both will convert to toddler beds then regular beds so they will last. Other than that we are a proud hand-me-down family! Other than that we already have everything we could want/need for a baby and even that is basic! My only absolute MUST HAVE is an automatic rock and play. Worth its weight in gold!
MamaBear Jones right???? I'm due in 2 weeks with #4 lol the only thing I bought so far was nb diapers and wipes lol still have everything left over from my 18m daughter.. my stroller has a bassinet attachment so we have that plus a bouncer.. and when my daughter gets a little older we will transition her from her crib to big girl bed this summer.. some outfits might be out of season but that's minor details imo o and some of my friends chipped in and got me a new Miss Fong diaper bag and bath towel and reusable baby food pouches lol
this is my first and i've been down sizing myself for a year.. now im 24 weeks pregnant and dont really want to have a house FULL of pointless baby stuff. I just want what i need because as a single mother it will make my life so much easier.
Let people know you're wanting to have just the few items that you actually need and you don't want anything else (it doesn't matter if THEY think you need it) and just tell them what you really need is cash. Then you can buy what you need and have savings left over for baby.
I’m a young mom of almost 2, you really DO NOT have to spend tons of money. I don’t even work. Babies do not have to be ridiculous expensive if you don’t want them to be.
First baby checklist I've watched at 20 weeks pregnant and I'm not gonna watch any more :) I'm expecting my first so it's all very confusing, but as we get ready for her we found ourselves decluttering the whole apartment like crazy! I'd love to stay clutter free with baby as well, and I figured that I won't need too much, but your tips are incredibly helpful and reassuring!
One essential for me was a lingerie laundry bag for the breast pads. We had a front loader washing machine, and the breast pads were thin enough to slip out of the drum and get caught up in the mechanism of the machine. But even with a top loader, it would be useful to have a laundry bag to put little things in to keep them together and prevent them from getting lost.
Babies don't really need a whole lot. Just something to eat, something to keep warm with, something to potty in, and somewhere to sleep. What that looks like will vary depending on the family, but that's about it as far as needs. And a car seat. Everything else is extra 😉 I do like to have a swing just so I can do other things without baby (like take a shower) and baby is safe. I also like to have something handmade for each baby, those things are just special to have. We are expecting our 7th due in April. The only thing we're buying for baby is some new cloth diapers, because after 6 babies, you can imagine how worn some of our diapers are.
Brandi I’m also due in April, but this will be my first. I’m cloth diapering with prefolds/fitteds and covers mostly. I can’t wait to start that journey. I had a hard time with my registry because I felt so pressured to have certain things and in the end I ended up with a few key pieces for each category you mentioned. We’re not co-sleeping so we added a rock and play for the newborn stage. We still don’t have a crib but if we get one hope to find one our baby can grow with (convertible into twin hopefully). I live in a small house so we’re aiming for minimalism for space saving mostly. I’m still working on overcoming the clutter we have with just two adults and 3 pets.
@@feedYOURchildrenKORN wooden beds mostly..with a mattress filled with cotton traditionally but now people have moved on to comfortable mattress depending on their budget.
@@martjie lndia is somewhere around 50 in the list. Keeping the birth rate and population, not that high actually. And sids doesn't have one particular reason.
@@martjie if you think i am defending india that's not on my mind. What i am saying is co sleeping can not be directly linked with sids as the only reason. Sudden drop in oxygen level, choking, sudden drop in glucose levels many reasons are there. I am now persuing my phd in clinical psychology and my husband is a surgeon rest assure, I am not googling my answers. I wrote what i remember, my data might need an upgradation and I thank u for that but Ma'am i am positive that no doctor can state that co sleeping equals SIDS
I’m 31 and having surprise baby #1! I find clutter so stressful. All my previous baby shower experiences and Pinterest lists of baby gear had me absolutely terrified! I can’t tell you how your videos have calmed my fears and made me more confident as a soon to be mom. Everything about your ideologies feel so close to how I didn’t even know I felt - until I heard you say them! You really lifted a huge weight off my shoulders and now I’m obsessed with all your videos! 😭 bless you minimal mom- you’ve gained a truly sincere fan!
Just found this by chance and it's by far my most favourite baby essentials list! I'm due in April with my first and have found this so reassuring that I don't 'need' all the recommended latest gadgets. Thank you!
So smart. So simple. So awesome. I so wish moms would realize all that they DON'T need. It just makes their lives so much more simple. Hugs from Maine.
I agree. A lot of the items for babies are a marketing strategy to get parents to buy for their babies... and it works because we all want the best for our baby. Get items that can be used now and as your baby grows older. I think it's best to save the earth and your pocketbook.
At last, an essentials list that is actually minimal and not full of gadgets! This is what we're planning for our little one in June and I'm so glad to hear that we will get by just fine with this list.
LOVE this! My husband and I like to keep things minimal and I’ll be delivering our first baby tomorrow(!). I’m so happy to hear your positive review on the Solly Baby as I have one waiting and ready to use!
Farmhouse on Boone Thank you! Hoping to go into labor naturally of course, otherwise induced this week. Just found out may not be tomorrow but definitely this week before Friday (when turning 42 weeks). I’m so ready!!
I hoard and own thousands of books. I won't get rid of them! But evening else I want to cut down and minimalize. My baby is due in 2019. So I'm hoping to glean all I can in getting exactly what I need. This is a great video!
this is so funny because i've sense gotten rid of many of my books. And now I'm about to have my second baby and i can use most of the stuff from my previous pregnancy/infant but i want to cut down on everything else i need to buy
Expecting my second baby in January, and this video just brought so much joy to my soul! I tried to be minimal with our first, but really didn't know how to stand up against the societal norms for what was important to me. Thank you for being positive and sweet while holding fast to the standards that are important to you and your family!
Having my third child now and I always thought cloth diapers would be too much work for me to keep up with. But now thanks to your suggestion I think my husband and I can handle it. Thanks a lot. You just saved us hundreds of dollars.
I keep it simple with my babies too. All those cutesy outfits are usually not as soft or comfy as a cotton sleeper onesie. I've had people make comments about taking them in public in baby PJs instead of a dress or baby pants and shirts but really, what baby wants to wear jeans? I wanted to mention I have always kept my babies in bed with me because I nurse all night and it just works. However I had a scare with baby #6, my then 3 year old woke me up because he had to pee and I saw my infant had rolled onto his stomach. I quickly flipped him over and it scared the hell out of me. If my older child hadn't woken me up, something really terrible could have happened. I switched to a bassinet next to me that night. I already had it but it's always just been used for extra baby blankets or my girls put their dolls in it. I love co sleeping but I think sometimes a mom can just be too tired. I'm not telling you, or anyone, what to do. Just sharing my experience.
Yeah I agree. I co slept a little bit but the first time I realized my exhaustion was too much to ensure the baby would stay put, I decided against it. It's so much easier and safer just to place the baby in a bassinet.
I am so grateful for your authenticity. My kids are 15 and 17 and they co-slept for at least a year when they were born. I love the comments too. So nice! Love your vibe.😁
Thanks for this! I am having by first baby, and people seem to think my low-key/minimalist approach isn't doable. I find it practical and calming! After years of taking care of other people's babies, I really want to keep the environment efficient and enjoyable.
I went baby shopping with my mom for my first and it was the best thing I ever did. She was able to tell me how much I really needed and it turns out it wasn’t much at all. Great video.
I wonder if you've ever heard of using a floor bed (a mattress on the floor) rather than a crib. Keeps things even more minimal and helps develop independence! You can maybe google Montessori floor bed for some inspiration and the reasons behind it. Cloth diapering is super!
Co-sleeping is the best for me! Have had sooooooo much flack from people, but my babies were so much more happy with me. And let's face it....... People have slept with there babies for thousands of years! It's great to see it works for you too!
My baby is 4 months old, cosleeping is the way for us too. Both of us sleep significantly better. May I ask your advice?? When and how do you transition baby to crib? When you're on the same bed, what safety precautions can ba taken?
Babies have also died from co-sleeping. I don't understand why you would risk losing your baby when there are much safer options. I just don't think it's worth the risk.
@@music-by-storm there is a risk associated with everything in life. If its not for you and you are uncomfortable that is fine but dont try to shame others.
Will someone enlighten me, when you let babies cosleep with you, do you guys put some kind of barrier so you don’t accidentally rolling on them? I guess you can say I’m one of those people who are concerned of risking possibly hurting my baby if I accidentally roll on them. But I wonder, how do you guys remain conscious of your little ones while asleep?
I was a minimalist with my babies too and it drove my siblings and extended family crazy. They wanted to give us so much stuff. One of the items I really loved is a sleep sack for winter when they outgrow swaddling and want their arms free. I like the Aidan & Anais muslin version. Each wash makes it softer.
After I was done with family planning, I recently found out I'm pregnant again, and I will admit I freaked out a little. More stress, more clutter, less time... This video was so calming and really grounded my stressed-out mind :-). Glad I remembered you made this. Thanks so much!
Great baby list! As a soon to be mom of two I definitely feel like we had so much stuff the first time around! I would just remind cloth diapering moms to never put the microfibre against babies skin, as it’s really bad directly on their skin.. stick to cotton, bamboo, hemp, etc :)
Great video. I bought so much stuff for my baby and now I don't need half of it. Such a waste. Wish I would have watched this yt video instead of a whole bunch of others making me think I need all this crap lol.
Hi Lisa,I was wondering if you could share your maternity wardrobe? I'm expecting #5 but didn't plan on more so I'm having to start over but just want a simple minimal wardrobe. I love what you have on in all your videos ❤️
Your work is a testament to creativity; similar to a book celebrated for its imaginative depth. "The Joy of Less: A Minimalist Living Guide" by Matthew Cove
This is *_JUST_* what I was looking for. I’ve always hated the idea of a room-full of stuff you won’t even use after 6 or so months. I’m so excited to get pregnant! Lol
The idea that sleeping with your infant is controversial.... Our culture needs to get with it.... I remember actually being threatened with a social worker by the hospital nurse because I was co sleeping in the hospital. I didn't take them serious but they sure wanted me to. Meanwhile across the world it's recommended to women because it's so beneficial.
@@NouRa1234510 I'm planning on having disposable diapers for when I'm out of the house and cloth diapers at home. The idea of having to carry around a dirty diaper and risk the mess or smell of it is just too gross for me. Plus, it's not like babies really leave the house that much anyway. (At least, not for a while.) You can also bend this rule for short trips vs long trips. Also, you can keep a cloth diaper in the bag in case you are almost done with the trip and the diaper needs changing. Why put them in another disposable if you are about to head home anyway? Ultimately, it's personal preference. I know some parents who never use disposable. In that case, disposable diaper liners become essential. Really, they are great to have no matter what, but I would say you need them if you are cloth diapering outside the house. Just keep in mind, they only work when your kid is old enough to have solid poo. Basically, it's a very thin sheet that goes on top of the cloth diaper pads. It keeps the solids separate while letting the liquid pass through to the cloth pads.
I LOVE Burt’s bee clothing!! I have found that they were always the pieces I would grab first. I also love cloth diapers!!! Covers and prefolds/inserts/whatever you have on hand are my favorite too. Oddly, my expensive all in one is the only one that leaks!! I won’t use microfiber though!!
I’m due with my third girl in May! Literally the only thing we have bought for her is a mini crib, because the new big sister will only be 16 months old and not ready to give hers up! But both will convert to toddler beds then regular beds so they will get their use! And a double stroller, second hand $100. We also cloth diaper, which will come in handy with two in diapers. And plan on nursing. Babies really don’t need much BUT I will say the automatic rock and play is a MUST HAVE. Such a life saver!
Yeahhhh. Whoever invented sleepers with snaps is evil, haha. Zippers forever! Wish my daughter could have worn sleepers, but her legs were always too short and she kicked out of them and got tangled. Wishing you the best as you welcome #5 into your family!
I think I am the ONLY one who likes the snaps XD My baby’s wearable blanket unzippers at the bottom....zip up sleepers unzip at the top so the snaps allow me to just unsnap just the bottom and only unzip her blanket halfway to do her diaper.
Apart from one sleeper I found that has two zips (you can unzip the suit from the bottom AND from the bottom), I much prefer suits with snaps. My babies didn't like having their upper body unzipped just so I could check or change their nappy! I also find that suits with zippers buckle in the front when baby isn't lying down flat, and stick up into baby's neck or face, which annoys them no end.
Montessori nursery is what I would do (no crib but a floor bed after baby turns 6 mos), my pink nike gym bag will be my diaper bag, everything will be used and from FB marketplace, only thing will be new is a mattress and a car seat.
Second time mom soon. I completely agree with all of this, but it's always nice to check other people's opinions especially with such small lists you feel like you're missing something when you're not lol. My first never liked soothers and didn't like swaddling so swings were a must for me because the only other thing that soothed him was being held and/or nursed, but that's all I would change. I wish I had cloth diapered him but maybe I will be able to with this baby. Great video
Ah Lisa, I seriously just adore you. Are you having your baby at home? I can totally picture you doing that. The only other thing I like having besides what you mentioned is some little bouncer to put baby in when I shower. I like keeping baby in the bathroom with me just because I too have 4 other children, my youngest is 2, and I know that baby is safest with me in there. I just got a solly wrap but have a ring sling that I made a couple kids ago that I love. The solly is perfect for when they’re little. I can’t wait to find out what you have. Our 5th is a surprise too.
Sara West oh that is a good point! That would probably be nice to put them in while showering. :) And yes I am having a home birth. How could you tell?! ;)So exciting you are having a surprise too!
Farmhouse on Boone the not bathing baby, the cloth diapering, co sleeping, organic clothes... I am also having a home birth. It’ll be my third. My first two were born at home and I’m so excited to be able to stay home with this birth again.
Haha I guess that all does give it away, doesn't it?! That is so exciting you get to stay home this time. I have done the hospital, van and home. Home is definitely my favorite! :)
Farmhouse on Boone Van?! Lol! Please do a birth story. I can’t wait to hear it. I did cloth with my first three but my third boy was so chubby that I couldn’t fit any clothes on over the chub and cloth diapers. I didn’t think I’d have any more kids after him so I got rid of all my diapers. 😩 now we just use organic disposables.
I'l not even pregnant yet but wraps really scare me.. i fear that i might not have it tight enough and the baby will fall out.. or make it too tight and will smother the baby..
imlikeforeverxD you can also buy wraps that don't need any knots get (The ones with d-rings or studio Romeo ones, for example). I like these because you can put them on when out and about. In many big cities you can find baby carrying classes to try out the gear and get tips :)
I wished I’d watched this sooner! I’m a first time mom due in 5 weeks and clutter stresses me out. When I saw how much baby stuff I need I got overwhelmed! I’ve also de cluttered and donated clothes. I got it down to very minimal. Skipping crib and got the bassinet/co-sleeper/playard in one instead and going Montessori method from there (floor bed). Skipped infant car seat because I’m petite and on a skinny side and worried I won’t be able to carry the car seat for when he gets heavier anyways. Not buying clothes because I’m pretty sure we’ll get a lot from baby shower. 😱 and probably just go from there. 😁 watching this video made me feel like I’m on the right track!
Co-sleeping is associated with an increased risk of sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI) including sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and fatal sleeping accidents in some circumstances. We don't do that shit around here because we put our baby's safety above all else. But I guess some people think they are smarter than the AAP.
@@joeymdye there are safe ways to co-sleep smart ass. Maybe the AAP needs to do more research in countries where co-sleeping is literally the only way moms sleep with their babies and there's no increased deaths because of it 🙄
Only have one baby but I'd agree with pretty much everything. Only thing I'd really add is a bouncy chair but if you are really committed to baby wearing I suppose it's not necessary. I wore my daughter a lot when she was a newborn but it was nice to have somewhere to put her when she couldn't be worn (eg I was in the shower).
Sure wish my babies were smaller, lol. Baby wearing is hard with big babies and a bad back, lol. If mine were average sized I’d totally do it more. We Love cloth diapering. Prefolds and rumparooz covers were the best for us. Really cheaper than pockets, and great at holding explosive poos! And the cheapest baby wash cloths work great as wipes. Don’t bother with the expensive wipes.
Farmhouse on Boone we have a moby wrap and a baby Bjorne carrier and none of them were good for us past a month or so as by the end of the first month mine were almost 13#. Wish my back could handle more- they’re so sweet and snuggly. But oh well. Think is my back, not the wraps fault. 😇 Congrats on the birth! LOVE the name. We’re fond of biblical names.
oh my, this is SUCH a helpful video! thank you! we're expecting in April with our first, and as a minimalist myself I'm so happy to have found your channel 😊
I agree with you on the zippers. and we didn't cosleep, our baby stayed with in her crib from the first day we got back from the hospital and it definitely helped cos she started sleeping through the night at 3 months. 12 hours long sleep. super appreciative
Love your video! Most difficult part was to explain to our family we dont want to much stuff... they always said we understand but you nees this or that!
okaykatelyn yes please. I'm FTM and due in April. To be honest.. I don't really know much about cloth diapers. If you could include some info on that as well. And do we need to wash the poop away from cloth diapers?
You're awesome. Everyone keeps telling me "You need more THINGS." When I ask what they suggest either they're unsure or list a slew of random "things" that sound more like a waste of money and clutter to make me anxious.
Wow, this video is amazing. I'm about to be a first-time mom in 3 months, and I'm someone who likes to keep things simple. This video was very insightful and helpful, thank you!
I bought about 10 t-shirts of light cotton and she wore them since birth with her cloth diapers 14 months later she is still using them haha and I just bought 1 toy the rest were gifts from grandparents and aunts :) the play yard was a gift from 4 aunts and she used it the first 2 moths then I cosleep after learning how to finally breastfeed while laying on the bed. the play yard for now is just simply a place to accumulate toys and pillows haha
I am pregnant with my first and am hoping you can help answer a question for me. I have considered breast feeding while laying on my side if I'm too sleepy to feel safe holding the baby. My idea is to have my husband keep watch so if I doze it will be ok. Will this actually work? Do I need to be awake to keep the boob in properly? Maybe this would work, but only at a certain age? I know most people will probably want to respond by saying just let dad bottle feed, but there are like 100 reasons why I hate bottles, so that's just not an option. Either it's ok for me to lay on my side and doze or it's not, in which case I will sit up and force myself awake. I just want some advice from someone who's already done this.
I’m a novice minimalist we bought a very small house and have 2 boys. We are having our third. And I HATE THINGS laying around everywhere we just don’t have the space and CLUTTER it stresses me out sooo much. I told everyone not to get me toys and a ton of baby gadgets for this baby because we can’t store it and I don’t want to store it I want to be clutter free, baby will just need me for first 6 mos as you said. So one bouncer a carrier car seat stroller we did bye a cosleeper bed and the rest we get as needed I feel so less stressed with this baby then first two. As I said learning to simplify and be minimalist and hoping to get my husband on board but I feel so great about it 😊 thank you for this video
I wish I had seen this a few months ago. I’m expecting twin girls any day now and I really wish I had bought less stuff. These are #5&6 for me, so I don’t have as much junk as a lot of newer moms, but still. 💕
Love it! Thanks for sharing :) I would definitely add a waterproof changing mat to this list, you can put it anywhere and it replaces the need for a changing pad or special changing table, you can just put the mat on the floor or the couch and off you go. Love you choice of diaper though! I love using flats with a comparable cover, cheap and works like a charm. Thanks again for the vid!
How do you deal with gifting from friends and family? I find family members and friends tend to love to buy many things, how do you deal with that whole situation?
I think you have to be brave enough to be really honest, set boundaries, and stick to them. I just had the conversation with my sister that I want to have Christmas day separately so that my child doesn't feel jealous of his cousins or end up with a bunch of stuff that we don't want and don't have room for. I said that I want holidays to be focused on spending time doing activities together as a family, not on stuff. So, I'd like to go to as many parades or festivals or whatever together that we can, and keep Christmas day as a small, intimate affair for just us. The thing is, I know my sister feels the same way and she wants this for her kids too... it's just the in-laws that don't get it and won't stop. Again, sometimes it's hard to set boundaries with people who don't understand, but that's why if I find a person that I can't maintain my boundaries with then I just have to avoid them.
Thank you! Everyone is telling me I need all these things when in reality I am more a minimalist kinda person/ style. And all I really want are cloth diapers and yet no one seems to want to listen and I’ve already gotten a few boxes of diapers...so how do you deal with people who don’t understand your decision?
We wait to find out the gender until the baby is born too. Everyone says but you can't buy anything! 😁We know different. And you never need the amount of junk everyone thinks is essential. I am pregnant with my 6th.
I have no plans of having kids for at least a few years but I love watching videos like this to reinforce my idea that a ton of stuff is not necessary for babies. Thank you
I am a RN working for over 25 years in woman’s health and newborn care.I disagree with the bathing schedule .you state once a week. Infants skin at minimum in the diaper area need a through rinsing daily! Urine and feces especially bf babes irritate the skin. Please don’t promote once weekly skin care . Wipes don’t cut it in fact we discourage wipes. Please moms rinse the lower body of your baby daily in lukewarm water and mild baby soap and rinse well .
I see your point, but I think your relating to your experience with babiea who are in conventional disposable diapers and baby soaps/wipes which are loaded with chemicals that are irritating to baby's skin. I think once natural cloth/fabric is against baby's skin it shouldn't be so much of a problem. Also natural soaps and creams are much more gental on perineal area. *just my 2 cents whose to say who's right...
Doesn’t matter kind of diaper, skin care is the same rinse daily with water can avoid soap if that’s your preference. So important to keep skin clean urine and feces are irritating to skin
Snuggle Nest Infant Sleeper, a stroller, and Silverette. I love everything on your list. People think they need way more than they do for a baby, and it makes me sad that some people use "cost" as a hindrance to have children or to have more children. Children are such a blessing from the Lord. I would add the "Baby Delight Snuggle Nest Surround XL" and a stroller for when they get older and heavier or you just want to push your cargo at the zoo or on long walks...or when its super hot out and no carrier in the world is cool enough. I also co-sleep, the Snuggle Nest just makes me feel safer, and helps me sleep a lot more soundly, plus the little nightlight in the night helps when breastfeeding those first few days and weeks. I totally agree that wether to co-sleep or not parents need to do their research and make informed decisions on their own, like much of parenting...learn to research, make decisions, and be willing to change your mind later if necessary. Silverette is a pair of silver nipple guards that are antimicrobial, antifungal, and antibacterial and prevent A LOT of breastfeeding issues. I had issues with my 1st and 2nd, got these and used them from day one with baby #3 had NO Breastfeeding ISSUES (No thrush, no mastitis, no pain, and no swelling), and i am so excited i have them ready to go for baby #4.
We live in a travel trailer and for our 3rd (and now 4th) child we used a travel bassinet that folds up for the first couple of months since we don't co-sleep and then a pack and play until they outgrow it (between 16-18 months old for my kiddos). It has worked out so well for us. We've never owned a changing table or regular crib and our babies have never had their own room where they didn't share with siblings. We buy only one car seat for each child (so no infant seat) and babywear the littlest one until they graduate to riding in the cart. We have one baby seat so that the baby can watch his siblings play and sit up a little for a change of scenery. Also recently discovered the extra large muslin swaddle blankets and they are amazing! They function as my nursing cover, floor mat for tummy time, travel blanket in the car, and of course a swaddle.
Amanda H Hardly. My babies have always been in my open shirt (bare breasted) or under my blanket with me. Babies don't actually like fabric/cotton. They have Always preferred my warm skin and the oxytocin we get to share as a result.
Amanda H Hardly. My babies have always been in my open shirt (bare breasted) or under my blanket with me. Babies don't actually like fabric/cotton. They have Always preferred my warm skin and the oxytocin we get to share as a result. Oxytocin is extremely healing and you get The Best night's sleep of all time! I sometimes feel like I have babies in order to get such good sleep lol There's nothing like it.
And a car seat and a SAFE place to sleep and diapers and formula if you dont breasfeed and music and books for stimulation and clothes cause not everybody lives in climate controlled homes😔
Love this, so informative. But...and not to be that person...but for the diaper inserts, if it's touching baby's skin, shouldn't you not use microfiber because it's too drying and can irritate their skin? All the other natural ones like cotton and flannel and hemp are fine, though... Regardless, I'm so glad I stumbled upon this before baby 2. Your items are affordable and practical. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. For someone who is starting to adapt a more minimalistic lifestyle with another little on the way, this is a great resource for me!
The best use I found for the flannel swaddle blankets was to cut them up and use them as washcloths for diapering. Thank you so much for sharing all of your insights! There is so much marketing that tells mamas that they have to have all this gear. I always remember the very, very long period of time time that humans were having babies before the industrial revolution and realize that less is more.
Good ideas, we did roughly the same for our daughter. Only thing I would add are a leak proof water bottle and leak proof insulated stainless steel travel mug like a Klean Kanteen. So thirsty while nursing and need to be able to operate it one handed so can have a swig of water or coffee when babs is feeding like milk is going out of fashion!
Definitely doesn't have to be expensive! Congrats!!
Ashley Colley that’s why people complain and say they don’t want kids, cause they’re „too expensive“. I even was reading in a forum that they bought a new, bigger car so the stroller could fit in. Wow 🤦🏻♀️😅
Amen!! Thank you.
agreed! my sister is having her first baby in 3 weeks. i’m finally going to be an aunt!! :)
@@mariakara2419 Being an aunt is great. I was an aunt when I was born, a great aunt at 23 and a great great aunt at 47.
Who else is a childless teenager just trying to get some more info for the future
Less is more!! I love your minimalist list and the fact that you use ORGANIC essentials. Thanks for sharing.
I wish I had seen this before I had my baby …. But good tips moving forward
Econobum looks great. I’m due March 1 & I’ve been looking for good safe cloth diapers!
Thank you for your videos, they are so helpful. Have you ever done a video on baby 6 months + ... how you deal with transitioning from co-sleeping or co-sleeping in general? Crib is not an option for my little one so far... I am thinking we need to start the transition soon though.
I haven't, but I need to. Micah takes good naps on his own, but he is still cosleeping about half the night.
Good! I can't even imagine how people don't co-sleep, but I only have one little one. She does not want to sleep alone and has been like that since the beginning. Everyone keeps telling me that it's bad and once you co-sleep you will never ever get her out of the bed. : /
Thanks for sharing, sad that most of the links don't work. I will Google separately.
CONGRATS! We still aren't totally sure if this will be the last one or not. :)
This is the first "minimalist baby essentials" video I've seen that is ACTUALLY minimal!! Thank you so much. This was super helpful!
Love this
Great idea with laundry basket
I DESTINY theidestiny the american pediatrics association recommendations for Safesleep is at 6-12 mon in your room (not necessarily your bed). and if you think about it you can guess that this is how its done in most countries around the world. a "baby room" is an invention of high income families in the western world
Thanks
@@roxannesantos8918 thanks
I DESTINY theidestiny my babies are 3 and 1 and they both still end up sleeping in our bed and either I or my partner end up sleeping in their room 😂 or we all just still sleep in one bed most days. Definitely never bought a changing table.
I realized the more kids you have the more you realize how little "stuff" you really need..
lana lyamin so true!
I'm due in 2 weeks with #4 lol the only thing I bought so far was nb diapers and wipes lol still have everything left over from my 18m daughter.. my stroller has a bassinet attachment so we have that plus a bouncer.. and when my daughter gets a little older we will transition her from her crib to big girl bed this summer.. some outfits might be out of season but that's minor details imo
o and some of my friends chipped in and got me a new Miss Fong diaper bag and bath towel and reusable baby food pouches lol
So as an experienced mom, should I go all out on my baby registry or just streamline it to be more minimalistic? First time mum here.
this is my first and i've been down sizing myself for a year.. now im 24 weeks pregnant and dont really want to have a house FULL of pointless baby stuff.
Agree!
I love how practical you are! I was looking for someone who can tell me what essentials are actually essential! Thank you for this video!
Totally agree Brandi! Someone else mentioned a bouncer or swing for them to sit in while you're taking a shower. That's a good point!
Where do you get your cloth diapers from
The Defono brand muslin burp cloths that I bought on Amazon, very soft and breathable. I used to wash my baby.
@@megancoker6598I use the Defono brand Burp Cloths that I bought on Amazon to treat it as cloth diaper.

I’m 31 and having surprise baby #1! I find clutter so stressful. All my previous baby shower experiences and Pinterest lists of baby gear had me absolutely terrified! I can’t tell you how your videos have calmed my fears and made me more confident as a soon to be mom. Aw! Thank you so much!
I am so glad my videos are inspiring you :)
Just found this by chance and it's by far my most favourite baby essentials list! I'm due in April with my first and have found this so reassuring that I don't 'need' all the recommended latest gadgets. Thank you!
SJ Wood congrats ! My niece or nephew due in April and I’m due in May
I'm due in April too with my first. 😍
So smart.
So simple.
So awesome.
I so wish moms would realize all that they DON'T need.
It just makes their lives so much more simple.
Hugs from Maine.
Exactly Lisa! Completely agree. :)
Oh my goodness tomorrow?! Congrats! That is so exciting! I already busted out the Solly Baby yesterday for our first outing and it was perfect. :)
Farmhouse on Boone Thank you! Hoping to go into labor naturally of course, otherwise induced this week. Just found out may not be tomorrow but definitely this week before Friday (when turning 42 weeks). I’m so ready!!
I hope all goes well!
I love how straightforward she is, and yes all the other stuff we as moms buy it’s just because we think it’s so adorable but we don’t NEED them.
Awe this is so encouraging! Never be afraid to go a different route because what’s right of other people’s families doesn’t mean it’s right for you!
Can you do a “What’s in my bag (newborn edition)” pleaseee
I haven't heard of that.
Yes! I'm pregnant with my first and my husband and I plan on purchasing a Sprout Kids floor bed for our little one.
Co-sleeping is the best for me! Have had sooooooo much flack from people, but my babies were so much more happy with me. And let's face it....... People have slept with there babies for thousands of years! It's great to see it works for you too!
I did that quite a lot when I was little and I am single child as you said.
I will check those out. I do like the Aidan and Anais brand. :)
phenomenalgrl -- I know I’ll be minimalist when I have children and I know it’ll drive my parents bananas.
I do like the Defono brand.
I do hate baby socks and newborn mittens ! So useless. Lisa is right.¡!!!¡!!!!
I love this, best I have seen. I am enjoying going minimal even just after one child. Lol, one due any day
Great video. I bought so much stuff for my baby and now I don't need half of it. Such a waste. Wish I would have watched this yt video instead of a whole bunch of others making me think I need all this crap lol.
😬 Yikes! I am glad you figured out what you need and what you don't!
I’m expecting and this video just made me realized I don’t need everything I think I did 😂
Could you make a video on what kind of things you need with a baby after 6 months.
Love it. Could you do a video on how to use/wash/maintain cloth diapering?
Yes its totally on the list! :)
Farmhouse on Boone
What laundry detergent do you use for cloth diapers?
Would you also add tips on how you go about cloth diapering when you are out? do you use disposable diapers then?
@@NouRa1234510
I'm planning on having disposable diapers for when I'm out of the house and cloth diapers at home.
Yes snaps are too difficult, especially in the middle of the night! ;)
Domer Home even “day time” clothes with snaps, still evil!
zippers FOREVER!!!
Great video
If you haven't already can you make a DIY video on your baby soap?
Yes! I will add it to the list!
Sara West I have been meaning to do a birth story for that one, because it's a pretty interesting story!! When are you due again?
I'l not even pregnant yet but wraps really scare me.. i fear that i might not have it tight enough and the baby will fall out.. or make it too tight and will smother the baby..
imlikeforeverxD you can also buy wraps that don't need any knots get (The ones with d-rings or studio Romeo ones, for example). I like these because you can put them on when out and about. In many big cities you can find baby carrying classes to try out the gear and get tips :)
I don't like wraps but there is a carrier thing you can buy that works just as well.
I’m thinking about doing this because there are plenty of options for baby girls ...and I don’t know what to expect ..first time soon to be mommy
Aww congrats!
What do you recommend to relieve morning sickness? I am 7 weeks right now and the “morning” sickness is no joke!
Yaas! My husband and I are minimalists expecting our first baby and we do not want a shit ton of stuff cluttering our home.
exactly no crib needed , we all know we all ending up together cuddling in bed 😍
Yesyes.
Gratitude Ranch my boys were all big too. With the right wrap you might find it not too bad. 😊👍🏻
😇
Congrats on the birth!

By far the best baby essentials video I have come across. Simple, affordable and sustainable, thank you for sharing your experience as a mom of five!
Love your video! Most difficult part was to explain to our family we dont want to much stuff... they always said we understand but you nees this or that!
You will still need a good car seat and stroller and crib and high chair, let them give money towards those.
I would love to see a video over cloth diapering!
It is on the list!
okaykatelyn yes please. I'm FTM and due in April. To be honest.. I don't really know much about cloth diapers.
If you could include some info on that as well. And do we need to wash the poop away from cloth diapers?
Agree! This would be super helpful :-) Thank you!!!
You're awesome. Everyone keeps telling me "You need more THINGS." When I ask what they suggest either they're unsure or list a slew of random "things" that sound more like a waste of money and clutter to make me anxious.
this is a great video!! organic is amazing :)
my sister is having her first baby in 3 weeks & im finally going to be an aunt so i’m super excited!!
Wow, this video is amazing. I'm about to be a first-time mom in 3 months, and I'm someone who likes to keep things simple. This video was very insightful and helpful, thank you!
Thank you! 😊
I am pregnant with my 4th and this is definitely my goal ! We are cloth diapering and definably going minimal with gear!
I hope this makes people realize that babies are only as expensive as you make them be!
I wish I knew all this when my children were babies
Omg I've been binge watching your videos. You are so, so helpful!
Thank you so much Haley!
I'm due in June I'm not planning on anything but onsies for the first 3 months.
I found with my first the cute outfits were frustrating for both of us. For winter I would only buy zip up sleepers if I had to do it over.
Yes, exactly!! Congratulations!!
I'm due in June as well!! Are u having a boy or girl?
Jenni H I’m due in June as well!
Due in june😅good luck all of us
How do you deal with gifting from friends and family?
When people gave me diapers for my first child I just returned them. Just don't listen to the naysayers. Newborns are especially easy to cloth diaper.
I returned them also
We wait to find out the gender until the baby is born too. Everyone says but you can't buy anything! 😁We know different. And you never need the amount of junk everyone thinks is essential. I am pregnant with my 6th.
Cleaned up my registry after watching your video. Thanks!!
This is my first video of Farmhouse on Boone to ever watch and I am already SMITTEN
Thanks for the amazing info. Very helpful! :) Please make a video on what strollers you use or how you carry babies when you go out.
Wow! I have never heard of the Silverette. Sounds like a neat idea!
QUALITY video ! You are an ACTUAL minimalist like my wife and I! All babies really need is mama milk and love 💗
And clothes 😉

Hardly. My babies have always been in my open shirt (bare breasted) or under my blanket with me. Babies don't actually like fabric/cotton. They have Always preferred my warm skin and the oxytocin we get to share as a result.

Hardly.
I cloth diapered my kids too. So expensive for disposables!
Good stuff!! I watched so many baby essential videos and it is the best one! Those “essentials” stressed me out !
I have watched tons of minimalist baby essentials and this video really does fit the title. Thank you for this video💕
