Sorry for the delay in responding to your question.
When you use the two-way Elite on the front passenger seat, the tether straps should be crossed over underneath the passenger seat. This is not necessary when the rear passenger seat is used. I hope this is clear? In-Car Safety Centre

Can the seat be used in the more upright position in the front? And do you know why it makes a difference if the straps are crossed if the passenger seat behind is in use or not? Should it be changed each time someone is in the passenger seat or not?

Did you cross the tether straps over? I couldn't tell
