I've been packing and refining my adventure gear for sometime now. I think it's one of my superpowers, but I still think I have a lot to learn and figure out. I call the entire process "dialing it in." Weather I am packing my backpack for a hike, my panniers for a bicycle tour, the truck for an off road road trip, I've learned what to pack and what to leave home and how to get it all in your bag in an effecient and easy to access and utilize sort of manner.
In this video I just got home from an 8 day backpacking trip in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and so I go over everything I brought on that most recent trip. Topics covered include water filters, bringing crocs or sandals, backpacking with a dog, packing and carrying a bear can, using a backcountry bidet instead of toilet paper, different mess kits and cooking items to carry, catching fish for food, necessary clothing for hiking and staying warm and a whole lot more!

My name is Brett Walker, I am a California artist and I’ve been making short films and photographs for over 20 years. Formally trained as a photographer, I started making movies in my early 20’s and quickly started exhibiting my work in galleries and at film screenings throughout the United States and abroad. In 2007 I was included in the Detroit International Film Festival. In 2008 I was selected for the 23rd annual New American Talent exhibition at the Jones Center in Austin, Texas. My short film “I Didn’t Want It To Rain” was included in the first ever international art exhibition in Northern Thailand at Look At This Gallery, in Chang Mai as part of their “Superheros/Supervillains exhibition in 2009. “Drinking The Ocean Through A Straw” a short film made in San Francisco was included in a touring exhibition called “The Kids Are Alright” which traveled to the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, Massachusetts as well as the Weatherspoon Art Museum in Greensboro North Carolina in 2013. I’ve taught filmmaking and photography classes and workshops in universities and museums and other unconventional settings. I’ve worked as a camera person on feature length documentaries, made music videos, and swam from Alcatraz Island to the shores of San Francisco which took me just under an hour and a half to complete.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine and a Master of Fine Arts in Art Practice from the University of California, Berkeley.
Because I spent so much time going to Art School, I ended up working in the Specialty Coffee Industry for much of my early adult life. You can find a playlist of movies made in my coffee shop, George and Lennie, which I owned and operated from 2015-2020 in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco.

Self employed for over 10 years, when not doing my own editorial assignments and commissioned photo shoots or video projects, I routinely work in my wife Katie’s sculpture studio helping her produce unique steam bent sculptures for private collectors and public installations.
