I picture flood as a literal flood, as im sure most people do. I can visualize the calm waters slowly building up and getting more and more rocky, I can picture the town, full of people living life, I can picture the destruction caused, and I can picture the calm desolate aftermath. But this album, is a completely different idea for me, it feels like something haunting, and terrifying, yet peaceful, like a city at night.
Their genre base consists of Doom, Sludge, Stoner, Drone, Hard Rock, Shoegaze, Dream Pop, Psychedelic Rock, Noise Rock, Grunge, Noise, Sound Collage, Ambient, Industrial, Hardcore Punk, Heavy Psych, Garage Rock and Garage Punk, etc. They're like The Melvins of Japan. They are named after the song Boris from Bullhead after all.
i don’t think they’d be as popular because most of their music is somewhat obscure, and they have a massive fucking discography so it’s kinda intimidating getting into them
this album in my room, complete darkness, headphones, eyes closed, stoned. such an experience, almost spiritual. hypnotic, transcendental, mesmerizing, Watas guitar solo in part 2 is just agonizing. this album is the reason i sit with my guitar tuned to A# standard and my orange dimed. i can just sink into the wall of sound, although i know it’s nothing compared to a Boris show. i need to see this band live at some point and they need to play this album or flood.
Boris Lyrics - Feedbacker, Pt. 3 重なった逃げ水の風景 やわらかな不確かなカタチを映して ただそこにいるここにいる 選びを忘れた牙の季節を撃て 飛び散る粒を集め世界になる 無数の世界は 無辺に生きる --- Many layers of scenes, reflected in the mirage They stay here, a blurred shade Just stay here Must shoot at the season of the fangs That has forgotten to make a decision Fragments have come together to become me Millions of me Million ways of living
Boris Lyrics - Feedbacker, Pt. 2 危機は美しい跡を残す 昨日の夢に現れた 兆しのきらめきに 触れた 終わりの気配の果て 転がり始める全て --- A beautiful trace left beside the cul-de-sac A shining sign in the last night's dream I touched it Beyond the sign of the ending All starts rolling
I wanted to give their music a listen after listening to some of their songs in Confessions. I thought music like this wouldn't be for me because I'm really impatient but I gave it a chance. After immersing myself with the whole album I'm feeling so many emotions that I can't even describe. It's so hypnotic. I've been having Feedbacker and Flood on repeat so much for like the past few days it's not even funny
Because the only thing in common between this album and GYBE are some of the genre tags. And this album is mediocre to death, even worst GYBE albums completely shit all over this.
If you like this, try Ground Zero - "Consume Red" or the live version of Consume Red on the Ground Zero "Last Concert" album. The original leans into the guitar (eventually), while the last concert version goes with traditional Japanese instruments instead.
Drop acid and watch the live performance on "Heavy Metal Me," you'll find piece. Actually, watch the entire "Heavy Metal Me," disc. Be sure youre peaking at "The Evil One Which Sobs," video, then go right into "Feedbacker," live..
Huh.....maybe it's just me, but the guitar licks at 19:33 sound a lot like Jimi Hendrix, especially with the guitar tone and how it's played. I wonder if Boris took some cues from Jimi Hendrix, at least.
Yeah every guitarist ever after Hendrix is influenced by Hendrix. This entire album could be described as Hendrix-ian. He might be the single most influential instrumentalist in the history of rock. +Matt Young Dunno what you mean by "that psychedelic sound" but Hendrix was absolutely the first to experiment with distortion and noise and feedback and other cutting edge sonic tools to the extent he did. He completely revolutionized the instrument.
Dino Spumoni hendrix is way overrated due to the tragic ending, like kurt cobain. He was part of a scene that influenced itself. He was preceded by acts like the doors, cream, the rolling stones, and pink floyd. He was a contributor not the progenitor of psychedelic music and the usage of feedback.
If were talking most iconic and important then the beatles would make top 10 for me, maybe multiple times. But yeah if were talking just how beautiful an album experience can be, theyre probably not even close to a lot of peoples top 10 list
boris, boredoms, fishmans absolute dominant japanese bands. what was going on in the early 2000's where they each made some of the most cathartic music ever? flood, feedbacker, long season live, vision creation newsun. im just grateful to have found these. any recommendations for very similar albums?

Boris is insane, there's no define genre for these guys. If they were from US or UK, they would be more popular. Such a unique band.

A band like Boris, irrespective of nationality, is only ever going to appeal to a minority. Just the wayI like it
I like Boris better than The Melvins
One of the most insane recordings in existence.
Album cover was me after enduring Part 3 at max volume. I'll enjoy this ringing forever.
