We need a Jon Batiste channel of just him jamming on his piano. He's fantastic!
Hes pretty average, there are many much better.
@@suzesiviter6083 I bet you're fun at parties...

Well Hayls... I've got good news for you!
ruclips.net/user/jonbatistemusic (if that link doesn't work, just search for the user: Jon Batiste Music. He's actually a REALLY good piano player (unlike Sorry Suzy might want you to believe), and only BARELY shows off his skills on The Late Show!
What song is he playing at the end? It's so familiar and I just can't quite place it.
I"m enjoying seeing more of Jon and his being more able to show his personality rather than just yessing and laughing at Stephen's jokes. I find I'm liking him more and more, the more I see of him. I hope no one reads this as me implying there's any sort of racist motive behind the usual dynamic on The Late Show - there's not, and I'm not. Jon's role is the same as many people's roles have been in this format of show. It's just nice to see more of him.
What the holly fuck of things that didn't need to be said. 😂
I imagine Stephen's kids are in the house rolling their eyes.
Jennifer Alexander they're working on those committment papers.

@M Detlef ew. No
"I don't get why he's famous..." - His Kids, probably.
I'm sure his family is walking around the house shaking their heads and glad he's home.
John's piece at the end was fantastic. I'm glad that they're still putting out something from home.
Clea * I just found this ruclips.net/video/HKnr8ovQP1g/видео.html
do we know the name of that piece at the end?
@@lafeeshmeister I really want to know too.

Have to say, I am kinda liking these jerry-rigged monologues - they've got that vibe of rehearsals and just having fun that takes me back to uni. Good going guys.
This maybe the most impactful piece of programming I’ve ever seen. The idea that we live in a different world completely settled in during this experience. Some of the funniest most brilliant natural presentation these days. Such an interesting perspective.
Bring back Strangers with Candy from home!
Colbert & Batiste's music are my daily detox! Thanks for staying on air guys!
Literally phoning it in and still killing it.
Particularly enjoyed Jon’s piano playing.

it's sort of personable and fun to see Steve and Jon at their homes.
I agree! I love this! :D
Yeah his off the cuff stuff proves he can handle speaking on the fly. I know most of it was scripted but the on the spot stuff was good.
Jon sucks. He's the worst.
It really is pretty cool n smooth how they did it
Not if you live in a shi*hole compared to them, are overpaying on rent for a flat with no bedroom, no amenities, and on the edge of a medium sized city, not downtown. Rent $700! That's way above the mortgage on my childhood home not that long ago. The banksters are going to end up forcing renters out b/c of this, according to economist Richard Wolff, who predicted this years ago. The GOP and their donors have been buying up all the real-estate for decades.
Love Stephen for still putting on a show and making us laugh through everything. He doesn't have to and it's so nice to see him. Also, DAMN Jon earned every single paycheck this show has ever written him and more!
More Jon please! I loved hearing him shred! ❤
During this whole thing, the fact that he's doing his Trump impression is still making me smile.
I love his trump impression
Yasssssss! 😍

And he's really perfected it over these three long years.
imagine looking out your backyard window and seeing your neighbor do his late night talk show.
I would love that
You'd probably be another rich elitist liberal anti-american scum bag, just like Colbert.
@Sumayah Baloch Judging on how much he talks about stress cooking and baking he seems like he'll be a nice neighbour who brings over cookies or something
I was thinking: "oh, thank God Jon Batiste has a piano in his home" and then I realized if anyone was going to have a piano at home it's probably Jon Batiste.
It does need tuning, though.
@@stevenk9466 Yeah, I don't want to know how many watch this that get their piano regularily tuned and then watch someone with millions of viewers and an untuned piano ;)
It adds to the rustic end-times charm, though... maybe it is on purpose?
@@tobias3ify It could be the "charm factor". I can't count the jazz albums I have where the recording studio's piano is horribly out of tune. No matter how much I yell at the album (recorded 50 years ago) "Tune your damn piano!", it remains out of tune. Still, the music is awesome. (Heck, I have a Charlie Parker album where he was playing with a broken saxophone and, as always, he kills.)
And hand sanitizer at the ready.
@@stevenk9466 The piano tuner is working from home.
The end of this episode really highlights the skills of Jon Batiste. He's a pretty brilliant musician I have to say.

Jon Baptiste!!!!!! I’m so glad he was in this. Makes it feel like...we have hope? I mean I know civilization will be fine. But it’s comforting to me when things that are a regular part of my routine are available.

Jon Batiste is a legend. Can we please talk about how the tune he's playing, which is what they use for transitions on the show, is straight up "The Gonk" from Dawn of the Dead?!?!

This made me realize two things: that comedy is better with a live audience, and that we need to bring back fireside chats. The world may be ending, but this is incredibly calming
On god
Bernie did a fireside chat just a few days ago.
Not with comedy. I really do enjoy this, but the timing just seems off. Jokes either hang awkwardly in the air, or just get lost with the speed. I also feel like there's just less energy here because Colbert gets off on performing and bantering with the audience, in a non-sexual way.
That being said, this as a medium of news is nice. Like a lot of people on here, I can't watch the news because it makes me angry, anxious and hopeless. The fact that it's delivered by a guy wearing a suit and a full face of makeup surrounded by blaring headlines of unrelated murders and terrorist attacks scrolling rapidly across the bottom of the screen makes it worse. I just want my buddy Steve to tell me what's going on while we sit around his firepit. No distractions, no sense of alienation.
Bernie's a cool dude. Whether or not you agree with him, you know he does what he does because it's what he believes is going to help people. I'm glad he's talking to everyone.
