i bought a 2021 TCR Advanced Pro 1 based on your review. Utterly amazed with the feel and performance of it even after coming off a 2014 Cervelo S2 with carbon wheels. Truly rides beautifully,
Outstanding review! I just built a similar bike with Shimao 105, Zipp 303 Firecrest wheels, Specialized Power saddle, Pro One tires and a Hambini race bottom bracket. Mine weighs 7.8kg. It runs flawlessly. I have 2700km on it. I could not be happier...
I’ve also got the Firecrests on mine, which suit it really well and the Hambini race. After a bit more dialling in of the riding position, went for the other day and it just felt perfect. An awesome bike!
I have a 2018 TCR Adv 2Disc. Even after 3years of riding and well over 20,000km it still makes me excited and happy every single time i get on it. It still challenges me evefy day to become fitter, leaner, stronger and faster. It feels like its alive and just wants to go fast. The faster i go, the better it seems to handle too. Just an unbelievably fun machibe to tear about the countryside on. Climbs liks a Falcon 9 and descends like an asteroid. I prefer the look of her curvier tube shapes to the new TCR designs too.
I bought the 2021 TCR Advanced Pro 1 and couldn't be happier. Coming from a DA equipped Defy Adv SL ISP rim brake, which I thought was quick, the new TCR has been astonishing. Actually feels smoother than the Defy but, at least on Strava, is a significantly faster machine!
Beautiful bike and enviable choice of components without going overboard on price. Appreciate the honest weights, though, as you say, it really is no big deal if the bike rides well.
So true. In fact, when I showed up with my new TCR, most casual riding pals (who aren't especially well-informed about new models) didn't think much of it. "Now, new bikes have aero one-piece cockpit with hidden cables." some of them said. But after a few rides, they expressed with surrpise "Wow, you're much faster. What model is that bike again?". In my mind, I would reply: "It's 2021's bike of the year, mate."
Congratulations on a great build! The most important thing is YOU live riding it! Yes I would run a lighter mechanical group set ( Ultegra or SRAM Red 22) the latter which would knock over a kilo off that build. Either way, I’d gladly ride it as is!👌
The TCR I believe has been at the pointe end of frame tech for years. After all Taiwan and Giant are the largest bike Corp, producers and have the money to prove it. I see many new exotic bikes and see old TCR tech on them being touted as new. I believe that the TCR Cav used at high road was arguably one of the first aero bikes because of the big square down tube and the integrated bladed seat mast as well as the thin triangle shaped seat stays. I’m obviously a big fan and have had 3 iterations of TCRs. Looking forward to my 4th upgrading to Disc.
Your previous reviews has driven me to order one... This review comes at the best time! I ordered a size medium TCR SL disc frame (lucky I found it); I can't wait to build my new bike. Thanks for you review!
I am vintage Cyclist And you’re reviews have converted me . I had A few Giant bike last century. But set in my ways. Gave cabon a large miss. But I have been reborn .
I’ve got a lot of time for Giant. I picked up a Propel in March and then a Revolt just the other week. Obviously very different rides, both out the smile on my face 😎
My custom giant TCR size m/L build has etap 11 disc, carbon one piece bar stem , industry 9 65mm carbon tubeless wheels 7.4 KG with pedals ,cages and mount The ride is amazing
Thanks for great video Dave. Based on your review I purchased the Advanced Pro Disc 1 2 weeks ago. Loving it so far. Amazing ride quality & fast. I’ve owned some nice bikes but this one tops them.
I like seeing the cables. I hand built a giant tcr 2012 frame in original box had to get helix fork though. Shimano 105 11speed with giant seat post, stem. FSA 38mm aluminum drop handle bars, selle Italia flite and look keo pedals. Topped off with vision team comp 35mm wheels. Love your build beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
What a lovely bike, I would be delighted to have such a bike. All comes together in this bike, top- and and kind of reasonable, as the custom parts are at the reasonable side of the price tags. Great video, as always. Keep up the riding and reviewing,! Best regards
Maybe I'm biased because I own a 2019 Defy Advanced Pro 0, but I struggle to understand why someone looking for a race bike would look beyond the TCR. Top notch quality, excellent ride, easy to work on and solid value.
as noted in a previous video this was on my shortlist for my broken bmc teammachine...in the end got the Specialized Aethos instead with rival groupset - love the disc brakes an electronic shifts even after only 200km. Went for what was available and at 53 y.o i'm also looking for a more compliant ride without seeking out marginal gains...still feels fast and smooth. the paint on that tcr is great though...
Sounds like it rides beautifully. I don't know why, but I've always had some sort of bias against Giants. Never ridden one and I know rationally there is no reason for me to feel that way. All the British (I'm in the US) cycling channels I follow, though, seem to love them. Will need to try one.
I know what you mean. Even the name doesn't really sound exciting, sophisticated or what not. It has less "cachet" as a brand. It's a conservative brand -- the Honda or Toyota of bikes. And they don't do much marketing or sponsorship, compared to other brands. But after extensive research, I listened to reason and ordered a TCR 2021 last year. Received the bike last spring and I couldn't be happier with the purchase.
Agree with you... Aero is more important when riding... Though my rim brakes TCR Advanced (non-Pro), size S, Ultegra mechanical, Giant P-SLR wheels, Giant Elite Pedals, alloy mount with Cycplus bike computer, Cadex Boost saddle, Elite bottle cage, only weighs 7.7kg. 😁
Gl with the bike. It looks great and looked v smooth when you rode it . I have been on a giant defy for the last 9 years and hooe to buy a new bike next year. I'm thinking strongly towards a tcr
I bought what I think was the last ever ML sized frame in the UK a few has ago. Nowhere else I Cyclestore had one so was chuffed to get one. Sadly it had a fault in the carbon on the main downtube where it had a dimple in the paintwork/frame. £1300 for a lush frame but it had to go back, so got the BOTY version instead - which is great. 5000 miles in it’s been great with my big old arse on it (100-125kg).
Love this bike. The colour of the frameset would perfectly match my Oakley Prizm Jade lens'! I've got the TCR Advanced Pro 1 Disc 2021 - such a joy to ride. Remarkably just $6k in Australia, quite surprised how much cheaper it is over here compared to the UK!
I don't mind the internal cables if the bike can use a conventional stem. A few do it but in saying that my current bike has cables showing and I don't mind. Had giant bikes in the past and can't fault them.
Just ordered my TCR ADVANCED SL DISC frame set. It will be build with Sram Force AXS. Not sure ye if I’ll go with the ZIPP 303 FC or the Hyper D45 wheels. I had to watch this video again bc of excitement😁
David, getting my 2021 TCR Advanced disc in 2 weeks looking forward to the ride and will accompany my 2020 Revolt Advanced 0 two great machines where performance meets price.
Get the skinwalls on it (Schwalbe tt)- transforms the look of it to something even more lovely. They're also really fast. :-) Love mine, it's a tremendous bike - 7.3kg fully loaded.
@@danc1829 - sure. Advanced Frameset like Dave's (size M); Groupset Red 11sp disc (with Quarq 50-36 PM), Cassette Red 11-28 ; KMC chain Hunt 44 Aerodynamicist wheels; Schwalbe TT 25mm TLE (set up tubeless); Wahoo Speedplays (stainless); Giant Contact 120mm stem (slammed!); Easton EC90 40mm bars; Lizard skin tape ; Arundel Mandible cages; SLR team saddle. Everything else stock standard. I swapped over grouppo and bits from other bikes and ended up with a superb bike for not a massive amount of cash. Hope that helps.
Nice one David, currently doing a custom build with this exact frame, Sram Force AXS, Roval Alpinist. Cant wait, your video is a right tease, thank you for your thoughts.
Great build David - that fram builds into a really nioce looking bike. I finished my build using the same frame and 1x Eagle mullet build - its working really well for me.
I have the TCR Advanced 1 disc 2021 and I have to say it's not how I imagined it to be... The whole wheelset was built together in a wrong way I ride with it only 20km and nearly had a 50kph crash!!! Luckily my friend recognized the Wheels coming apart. Giant did not aswer or replaced anything, had to buy a new wheelset by my own. Look at your wheels and make sure they are build in a good way!!!
There's literally thousands and thousands of 2021 TCR delivered to customers since last year. I have been visiting forums and comment sections and I don't remember anyone reporting this before. So yours was an outlier, unlikely to be widespread issue. What do you mean by "wrong way"?
Beautiful bike Dave! but that groupset is HEAVY, 3.2kg vs 2.3kg for Ultegra mech, no wonder you can't break 8kg. Sorry, but I have to disagree on the weight issue, specially when the new TCR Pro 1 is ~7.6kg out of the box and comes with a dual sided power meter. (Also the SLR1 wheels are lighter than the ENVEs and I'm pretty sure are technically better wheels.) Weight is a very important factor in road bikes and when you're spending that kind of money on a new bike, you want to be as light as possible.
Ultegra R8020 actually weighs in at about 2.9 kg, rather than the R8000, which as you said weighs 2.3 kg, however you might want to compare the disc version of both ultegra and rival. There, the weight difference is about 300-400 grams, still being the rival more expensive. So as you said, being weight such an important factor, the mechanical ultegra version is an option to take into account.
Great video! I watched your other TCR videos with the black ultegra model. I was able to pick up the blue one with di2 earlier this year. I agree, it is a race bike, but also feels relaxed and smooth, which is nice. You can sit up a bit more and have a nicer recovery ride. Yours looks great with the enve foundations, and the wireless etap. I am a fan of external cables, it makes it look simpler and no-nonsense. Great review!
After your review of the 2021 TCR Advanced Pro 1 I rushed out an bought one! I've done over 4000km on it so far. I really love the bike. In your opinion, is the Canyon Aeroad a significantly harsher ride? I'm thinking of an upgrade to the DI2 Version with no cables.

I love the way the bike looks David and wondered how much extra weight penalty is there over Ultegra mechanical to the Sram groupset you're running?? I've got Ultegra and would love wireless, but not at the cost of a lot more weight? Love the in depth reviews so keep them coming and safe riding.
Hi David I recently stumbled upon your channel and you’ve quickly become one of my favorites! Can you elaborate some on your thinking of going 1x setup? I was under the impression for anyone riding mostly road 2x was preferred. Great review as always!
That’s a really nice bike, love the look off it, fantastic paint job also, I have been watching your videos lately, very impressed and great detail. I’m going to buy a new bike for about£3000, not sure what to get, I have a specialised -R-sport at present, would love a Tarmac , but very impressed with the giant TCR , would like to hear what you recommend, Steve Hutchinson
Thanks for the video, David! Two questions: 1) I know you liked the BMC SLR very much, but you obviously went for this one. Did it have to do with paint job or BMC perhaps being a bit pricier? 2) I’ve seen this bike in some of your videos with the Zipp wheelset (303S?). Did you like the Zipp better? If so, why? Thanks mate!
Great channel. Thanks for the reviews and views. When are you going to review the wheels? I'm looking to decide between the ENVE foundation 45's and the Zipp 303 firecrests (I realise they have a slightly different focus - the ENVEs are supposedly better 'all arounds', and the 303FC's are more gravel and climbing focused). This is for a road/endurance/'maybe a bit of gravel' on a possible Reilly Spectre build. Thoughts very much appreciated.
Hi David. The paint is very nice, I would like to know what the color is called? since I will buy the TCR Advanced Pro 1 2024 in Mexico and the color is Dark Iridescent/Chrome. I would like to know if it is the same color. Greetings
Have you seen the Pirelli P Zero tyres were compatible with Giant’s SLR1 hookless rims but now listed as not. I’d done 1500 miles (112kg, 70psi) without incident, but incase something should happen I’ve gone to 5000s TR now. Feel softer and more forgiving, though feel paper thin.
Great review, David. I currently have a Giant Defy with Rival groups at and firecrest wheels with GP 5000S TR ties and I'd like to be a bit faster here in Guangzhou, China. I'm 58 and ride about 10, 000 km a year. Would you recommend the TCR frames at for me, or do you think I should stick with the Defy? Thanks
Hi David great videos buy the way would you say the giant is a better bike than the trek emonda to ride I've been looking at both, don't know wich to buy I'm a bit of a weight weenie thanks.
I bought a TCR advanced last month with the blue dragonfly colour. Love it better than my previous Trek then Colnago. Your videos are well done too 😊
Good choice!
TCRs are absolutely gorgeous, simple and elegant. I’d choose a TCR over any other bike of its kind any day of the week.
I still want one. Trying to sell my emonda sl6 Frameset to get one of these.

Which model would have been closest in comparison?

One of the best bikes on the market. I love the Giant TCR Advanced Pro. The carbon hookless 42mm wheels are excellent!
I have ridden over 15,000 km on this TSR and I can say with confidence that I absolutely agree with the opinion of the author, I love this bike!
i bought a TCR advanced pro 2 after your review last year. Over 3500 km done now and I love it even more !
I bought a TCR partly because of your review!
Same here. Couldn't be happier.

Did it have to do with paint job or BMC perhaps being a bit pricier? 2) I’ve seen this bike in some of your videos with the Zipp wheelset (303S?). Did you like the Zipp better? If so, why? Thanks mate!
My frameset arrives today yeeeee-haaaah ! . trying to decide if I can wait for di2 12 speed or not 😩
Stunning build 👌
Great channel. Thanks for the reviews and views. When are you going to review the wheels? I'm looking to decide between the ENVE foundation 45's and the Zipp 303 firecrests (I realise they have a slightly different focus - the ENVEs are supposedly better 'all arounds', and the 303FC's are more gravel and climbing focused). This is for a road/endurance/'maybe a bit of gravel' on a possible Reilly Spectre build. Thoughts very much appreciated.
Hi, where did you buy that painted frame?
Amazing build!
GIANT TCR 🌞 # 1 🇵🇱🚲
Great video, thinking of getting one how tall are you trying to work out what size to get
Bottle is the only thing i don't like about it. Killer bike!
great video!
And now its time for cycling shorts! :)
Brilliant!
Thanks
Very nice.
Hi David great videos buy the way would you say the giant is a better bike than the trek emonda to ride I've been looking at both, don't know wich to buy I'm a bit of a weight weenie thanks.
External cable is a purchasing factor to me, in the coming years selling a bike with external would be challenge in a rather look driven market
absolutely same for me, what did you buy?
