I had heard the story that the difference in nodding one’s head and shaking as one head was a response to turks holding a sword to one’s throat and asking if you believe that Mohammed was the prophet of God. If you shook your head, you would slit your throat, and if you nodded your head, you would be unharmed. So people decided that nodding ones head meant “no,”and shaking ones meant “yes.”
