    The same twelve people who gave this a thumbs down probably also prefer McDonalds over a gourmet meal . . . .

    • @salvadorrossinifernandez6805
      @salvadorrossinifernandez6805 7 лет назад +2

      A real good burger, with real meat, real cheese and real fresh onions is fine! I like them so much ... But never from McDonalds !! ... That's the antithesis of real hamburger, it's fake food. There are many types of good burgers on the streets, there are also fine dining restaurants, there are even gourmet burgers... but someone who knows the real value of a good and nutritious meal, will never choose one from McDonalds! ... That, I think, (more or less), is what soulgriot means

    • @soulgriot
      @soulgriot 7 лет назад

      Pretty close. I wasn't comparing the relative merit of one burger over another, though, and I wasn't suggesting that eating what's available after a gig was a bad thing. There's as much difference between an outstanding jazz performance and a mediocre pop music performance as there is between McDonalds' food (burger or otherwise) and a well prepared gourmet meal. That's all I was suggesting . . . .

    • @soulgriot
      @soulgriot 7 лет назад +1

      In other words, some people prefer crap over something decent. In fact, many people do, and that's their choice. Perhaps they are unable to discern a difference, which is a shame . . . .

    • @glennwisniewski9536

      I like McDonalds.

    • @stoxarecool763
      @stoxarecool763 3 года назад

      @@glennwisniewski9536 I won't ridicule you for that. To each his own. Wanna know a secret? I'm not really a Tony Williams fan...nor Buddy Rich. There's a similarity in their playing that irks me every time. I knew you'd understand, or at least not denigrate me, because you seem like the kind of guy that is so firm in his convictions and preferences that he necessarily understands that others have different preferences.
      In other words, I think we'd get along well. Take care friend!

    Phenomenal. Can't believe the pace they played this at. Sad to think that Hancock, Newton and Carter are the only ones left of this stellar gathering.

    Herbie is so free and rhythmically hip it hurts me.

    • @stoxarecool763
      @stoxarecool763 3 года назад +2

      Truly a testament to the superiority of rhythmic precision, in my mind. Hal Galper's Forward Motion concept was my entry point into freeing the 'notes' from the rhythm -- literally a life-changing book: if you're not familiar, it's a must read!

    Freddie Hubbard, and Bobby Hutcherson were on 10!
    Tony Williams, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carrer, and the composer Joe Henderson were splendid as always. Those people who voted thumbs down are deaf and or incompetent haters.
    Clean the wax out of your ears please. A 5*****star live rendition.

    Anyone involved in the creative process, understanding the nature of live performance and improvisation, would be better silent than critical of these musical masters. And to boot, a high energy and exciting performance - can only imagine the peak experience of being there.

  • @rhmayer1
    @rhmayer1 6 лет назад +7

    Loved Freddie's solo on flugelhorn. The larger, warmer, softer instrument complements his fiery style and technique a bit. On my 2nd listen/watch a few days later I realize that he switches back to trumpet at the end of his solo. Herbie's solo was even better on the 2nd listen - he's so inventive.
    I recommend a 2nd listen. You hear and see a lot more.
    Wish Ron Carter also did a solo.

  • @Drivethebeat
    @Drivethebeat 6 лет назад +11

    Herbie is THE best accompanist EVER! (1st bars of Bobby's solo.. Not really difficult, just the idea of putting it there..) I wish I could hear blocks of harmony like he does.
