Being out on the sea is something you have to love if not you'll never make it ,the sea is unforgiving it takes a special person to live and work at sea it has to be in your blood
At sea a carrier is a 24/7/365 operation with around 5000 people onboard. It never stops. The flight ops. The unreps & vertreps, ammo on loads, etc. We always did our refueling every 3 days and 98% of the time after dark around midnight or so. Then you have all kinds of drills. In addition to all this you doing your job and are standing watches. Somewhere in between all that you are supposed to eat and sleep. You might get lucky and get a solid 5 hours of sleep but don't count on it. Then there is the always enjoyable man overboard, either on purpose or accidentally. Most port calls after leaving the U.S. require anchoring out which is a whole evolution by itself. So a cruise could be good one, a bad one, or an indifferent one.
You failed to mention me and all other grapes...purple shirt i was the fuels QA supervisor on board the Saratoga...i had the ability to stop all flight ops..the is the JP5 fuel must be perfect...in other words no sediment or water in it .we take a sample of it before it goes into the aircraft We put a petcock in the nozzle and take a sample of it.then we do a visual check on it.i ve stopped flight ops many time jor that..in my labi run it it thru a machine with filters wich tells me if anything is in it.its really quite fascinating to see ...ive had many admirals looking over my shoulder while doing that.if theres anything in the fuel many shipmates can die. Coming back from the Mediterranean We had a uniform inspection on the flight..the admiral called me out for me too stand in front of him..the whole airwing was on the deck .i was a bit nervous but all he did was give me a commendation and told everyone what i did everyone clapped for me...i felt embarrassed to be honest..all the guys in my division was calling me a hero it was crazy. When your on a deployment always make sure you write home to mom and dad...that is very important!!!! I was called to the bridge where the CO was one day to remind me of that.he gave me a little lecture about that...believe me...i wrote home all the Time after that.
But, this video isn’t about ABF’s, is it? Its purpose was to show what a Catapult Officer’s job was. I’m 100% sure that there’s a “fuelies” video out there that you’ll get recognition for.

It needs to be known that any good Launching Officer, not only trains from another experienced LO, but also learns and grasps the “know-how” on the exact dynamics on how a Steamed Catapult operates from below decks to topside operations.

I was in a cod when we got launched off the flight deck and it was so much pressure I can’t even imagine what the jets feel like. It was a lot of fun tho but also nerve wrecking
They have just announced here in the UK 🇬🇧 that they may start drafting people if we ever go to war with Russia. I’m in my mid 40’s and don’t have what it takes for combat. However I have been an IT technician all my life. And would be honoured if I was able to work on an aircraft carrier

You’re right. Both the F16 and F15 do have tail hooks but they are only used for emergencies on land bases. The undercarriage isn’t strong enough for carrier landings.

Prior enlisted flight deck crew. Limited Duty Officer with several years of service prior to commissioning. I was a Nuke LDO and served with many Shooters during my carrier tours. Great group of guys!
“Shooters” are officers. And they’re usually “green” and need to be taught, usually from the enlisted crew. But, there have been LDO’s and very rare occasions CWO’s that can be qualified as a Launching and/or Arresting Gear Officer.

The smart move would be to serve a hitch in the Navy then take advantage of their college program to get that degree and then reup. You may be able to earn your diploma while serving which will increase your job prospects afterwards.

Not only is the shooter's job a cushy ride they also get $25/day extra for their duties as well as 1.5 food rations per meal on the ship per day they work. Getting the gig is cool enough but it's perks like this that keep the gravy train running!

usually every 2 hrs you have launch and recovery, every day it's around 12 - 13 hrs a day, unless during "CQ" its around 18 - 20hrs days.
