A true example of universal music, the language barrier regardless.
The mother of South African music. Miriam brought much joy in her work.

A mesmerizing record. Beautiful. Her performance on Ed Sullivan is available and just wonderful! Thank you.

Heard this as a 4 year old kid and loved it. It still cheers me up.
I remember Harry Belafonte sang this song at my dad's Carousel Theatre - I think it was 1967 - the energy made me crazy . . . kind of explains the way I turned out
Lyrics:

Interesting that I've heard this in TV commercials but can't recall ever hearing it on the oldies stations over the years, despite the fact that it apparently did very well on the charts!
i love this
Rigodon and Tico
Was discovered by Harry Belafonte, much like her former hubby Hugh Masakela....this number peaked ‘bout 6 months prior 2 the release of Hugh’s million-selling “Grazing in the Grass”!!!!
This was a big top 10 hit on both 77 WABC and 57 WMCA in NYC
you got me beat on remembering. Cousin Brucie played this?
Interesting that Jerry Ragovoy got a songwriting credit here, considering that Miriam Makeba had already recorded this in South Africa in the 1950's with her group the Skylarks. Hmmm....
Maybe he contributed the English spoken parts?
