The first tip about changing playback resolution helped me a ton in Davinci 18... Literally nothing about my recording software or Davinci has changed since the last thing I edited, yet for some reason playback was so choppy, it wasn't even showing me the correct frames on screen. Setting it at half res seems to have made it run immensely smoother, thanks.
i have to say, as an advocate editor who is so passionate about it. this is gold. alot of people drag out things or come up with long process fixes for issues that are just insanely explained. you kept it as short as possible, no non sense and straight to the points with some entertainment. im not one to ever comment but i had to give you some praise. this is just gods work. thank you
@3:17 - Dude I want to thank you very, very much for making this video. I inadvertently activated 3-D Keyer on my video track, forgot about it, and it was bogging my entire project down... big time. I am now back on track thanks to you. Keep up the nice work!
that render cache trick worked for me. thanks man. God bless you and happy new year. May this new year brings you and your family, joy, happiness and fullfilment.
Amazing video Joris, that was a good tip about changing the setting to HD then check if everything is ok then back to 4K before rendering, thats a good one, i didnt know this, I hope you can show us how to make a cool looking intro in DR like yours, just so we can get some idea, thanks for this video.
I have had nothing but editing issues this week, and I learned that part of that has to do with the type of files my camera records in. However, these tips I am sure will help me drop some of this lag.
Honestly just halving the timeline proxy of my 2k video helped out a ton! 5900XT and 3060ti I can finally use them to their fullest potential without bricking my entire project
This helped so much! I couldn't see if my transitions were smooth, this made it actually possible to tell. Before I was just going frame by frame to see lol
I literally tried everything to make it run smoother and this last one about changing the resolution really helped thank you so much now I can actually start editing on da vinci.
Im really lost and dont know where to go, could you help me? 😬 I have a 10 yo laptop that had 4gb of ram, i dont remember any other specs, recently i put in another 4 gb ram stick so i thought it would handle resolve but it kinda doesn't, the mouse gets stuck and it take a while to move stuff, do you know a forum where i can go and ask what to do or do you have any suggestions?
@@Valeriamtzp Also I know the "get a new laptop" answer is brain dead, but technology has advanced so much in the last 10 years, it's exponential growth. GPUs from 7 years ago are several leagues slower than modern GPUs, same with CPUs. All the modern components are on a different level, however you don't have to get the newest of the new if you're on a budget, components from a few years ago will work just fine too, you might only be able to find them used however.
Nice video, just a side note - when you put yor studio lut on at 2:44 you can see that purple and especially magenta are clipping like crazy. Maybe try to tame that in for the LUT or people will have artifacts and banding using it :) I would try a saturation compression on the CST in the end of the node graph you've built it with.
omgggggg men thx so much i just tried the first thing in the video and things already running smoother ur getting a sub ok let me finish the video now mans also forgot to breath got me on the floor
The text changing after going back to 4K is normal actually. You spaced the text based on pixel measures, if you use more pixel, then, the measure used on 1080p will look smaller ! So every bit of effects using a pixel measurement will be affected when going back to 4K
Amazing video about optimization brother! Interesting the thing you mentioned about text letter spacing behavior between 1080p and 4K, as an image processing software developer, I can say this is a "bug" that can be fixed by dynamically set in Davinci's code that the spacing should have a multiply factor based on the pixel width / height. Blackmagic should know about this so they can fix it, your workaround is great but is better that we as developers to know this kind of feedback about bugs to improve the software. I just love Davinci is an amazing piece of software, smooth UI and amazing UX.
This video maybe old but its very well done and highly informative. Thank you so much for explaining so much about Davinci Resolve. Saved me a huge amount of massive headaches!!!
Will try the proxy option. I normally use the generate optimized media for a faster render. Then delete them after the project is done to get space back on my SSD.
This. This is GOLD! My Mac got super slow with 4K videos and it does get much faster when I follow your advice! Thanks a lot man!

Really easy to understand and follow, i’ve been having real issues with an M1 mac, the adjustment clip idea is perfect as i do grade.

Your tips made my video's look so much better. Thanks for al the great content👌
i had to look so much for the right setting when i started, the proxy-media finally did it! Thumbs up and thank you!
Thank you for your help ❤I totally forgot about playback previews usually need to be lower quality on the timeline

this popped out at the very right exact time. thanks..more power to you!
I'll definitely try these tips out, thank you man!
The first tip already solved my problem 100%. Only had to change to half and it worked like a charm. Thanks so much man.
Thanks for the tips Joris, I didn't use them all, but the ones I did really helped speed up my workflow.
which ones did you use? just curious
Great video! Helped me out for sure
This is the best video out there to get a smooth experience in Davinci Resolve when editing 4K. 👍
This is gold, brother. Was trying to edit some dji footage to no avail, found you. For me Proxy media made the biggest difference. Thanks!
Honestly just halving the timeline proxy of my 2k video helped out a ton! 5900XT and 3060ti I can finally use them to their fullest potential without bricking my entire project

Man, I'm still trying to find out if your humor comes naturally or you plan it in the script? Either way, it looks so beautifully natural. Love that ❤
great video Thank you very much 😍
great video, thank you friend. editing has become so much smoother using your tips. by the way you sound exactly like Niki Lauda in the movie rush.
Guy is such a life saver thank you!
From 95% CPU usage to 5% with my 5900X, thanks a lot you rock 🤟
Use intel cpu for everything else besides gaming. Not sure why you went with ryzen, they're tuned more for gaming...
@@adoptedorange52951 That's exactly the opposite what are you talking about rofl
@@HeavyMix3 everyone knows intel is better… ryzen is for gamers lol
