A tune inspired by one of the most famed female figures of ancient China, Emperor Wu Zetian. It tells of the story of an educated young lady employed into the palace for her academic talents. Through a variety of circumstances and political struggles, she eventually found her way up to the top as the Emperor of Tang Dynasty China, where her talents ushered the ancient kingdom into a golden era of economic momentum.

Empress Wu Zetian, a powerful monarch, the one and only ruling empress of China. She is infamous for her ruthlessness as written by the historian, that she could banish her step sons, poison her son even killing her newborn to get rid her rival. She was a mere concubine but then she married her step son and became the empress she was. Awesome character. She got two handsome male concubines too. She's the reason why people wouldn't let any woman come to power in the next dynasties. I believe she's not as ruthless as she was portrayed in the history. Culture and women right were developing well in her era
Strong, regal, dignified. She had it all, rising in power among all the consorts in the palace that had seen and hear the tales of many souls. Her influence had no limits, flourishing magnificently at the peak of the dynasty. Known as the only legitimate female sovereign in the history of China, she would be written down as one of the greatest emperors in Chinese history with her mighty stance and leadership in the court.
Clashing with many enemies, she suppressed all her rivals and seized the throne, thus beginning a new era. A decisive and proactive woman, she had a keen eye for people with talent and was famous for utilizing the imperial examination system to stabilize her regime. With an intriguing and mysterious aura and an elegant flair, she captured the eyes of many and was depicted as an intellectual woman who was educated in many subjects since young, including politics, writing, literature, music and many more--a trait that was extremely uncommon among women back in the days.
Making her mark on history, she became a monumental figure that would forever be remembered, recorded in ink and written on books.

今日要這天下與我共。

*Hullo everyone! I thought long and hard on how to write this story, but ended up writing something that seemed more like a description because I thought it suited the flow of the song more xD Wu Zetian lived a long life and there are so many records about her story, so I would like to share a few facts about her to everyone ^^*
。。。
1. Wu Zetian (武則天) had many names and titles through out her life, some of the most known ones are Wu Zhao (武曌) [the name she changed into after rising to power], Wu Meiniang (武媚娘) and Wu Hou (武后).
2. She became an imperial concubine at the age of fourteen with the title of cairen (才人) [5th in ranking out of the nine ranks implemented back then] and the name Wu Mei (武媚). A conversation between her and her mother was recorded when bidding farewell, “侍奉的圣明天子,岂知非福?为何还要哭哭啼啼、作儿女之态呢?” roughly translated as "It is the greatest honor for me to be able to serve the emperor, an incredible blessing and fortune. Why are you crying and weeping for my leaving?" _[I hope everyone at least get a rough gist of my translation TT]_
3. There are many mixed views about Wu Zetian. Many admired her abilities to govern the state, but many also despise her for seizing imperial power. There were rumors that she had killed her own children, but were proven false later. The rumors were probably due to the ancient belief that women were not suited to hold any power. She had 4 sons, 3 whom carried the title of emperor.

She knew her name would never be that of the dragon, no matter how capable she was. So there she was, carrying the Phoenix's Crown because no matter how hard she tried, she could only reign as the Phoenix. All hailed her as the Empress, but she knew behind their flattering smiles were urges to tear her down. To her who so claimed the spot no woman was allowed, no matter her caliber, none would accede.
What is this a reference to?

No matter how capable she was, her name would never be that of the dragon. She well knew that. So there she was carrying the Phoenix's Crown for no matter how much she tried, she could only reign as the Phoenix.
All hailed her as the Empress but she well knew behind their flattering smiles were urges to pull her down. To her who so claimed the spot no woman was allowed, no matter her caliber, none would accede.
She who so worked for the females to be recognized as equals, for them to have their own against the men, for them to be able to show their talents without anyone murmuring 'shameful'.
She won the battle. She thought as she stood in front of the bowed horde. She knew the people were yet to accept her as the supreme ruler but that day she won the first battle. But was the war over?
Years later as she layed on the bed counting her last minutes, she realized the war was far from over. She lived and died as the Phoenix. The one to ascend her though, was a Dragon.
She would never know for her eyes then closed forever but the battles she won would for a long time not be recalled. For the dynasties to come, there did exist a Phoenix who ruled the lands. Yet what they remembered of her was the image of a cruel tyrant who brought 'shame' to the name of the Dragon and that of the empire.
But nevertheless, the dear Phoenix who bestowed the Empire with gifts most Dragons never did, should know that the war she fought for years after a long long time would finally dawn. And she was one of the victors who pushed through her battles impressively.
To that figure unseen, fluttering sleeves and exquisite adorns, to who once had the empire on its knees, the dynasties would thank her for the years to come.

*note* : *Phoenix here means the Empress n Dragons here means the Emperor. I am sure dat Dragon in ancient China meant the Emperor but m not so sure bout the Phoenix part. Since dragon and phoenix together stood for husband n wife it should be right but m not sure:)*
Empress Wu was surely one among the greatest. Don't doubt that she won the battle and brought a decent part of the gender quality nowadays

Tai, just wanted to say Thank you for your uploads! I use your music to get motivated to paint…I even gave one of my Chinese Brush painting tutors your link, Fiona IDS.
Question of the day..does the fact that my nutty cat goes nuts, becomes very loving, when she hears this music (especially flutes) OR, my good ink sticks are like catnip to her and she’ll often carry around crumpled Xuan paper with my practice strokes on it…are these definitive proof that Kitty_Leela may have lived a past life in beautiful China? 🤷🏼♀️😸

Now that's a cat I'd like to meet, heh! Thank you for stopping by elaineg!

To anyone needing to see a very specific form of me now to believe, I send that form to you now.
My scenario allows for this, always in secret. I can also embody via changing clothes, and have taken care to design ways to do so that respect the multicultural schisms and their customs of our present.
My queer manzai project with Rin and "peaceful" dethroning of the Emperor are just two such moves.
Is there some new real historical Chinese drama?
Life isn’t complicated, don’t make it that way…
