Atmospheric look back at our ancestors; of course, they weren't pioneers in the true sense, as the land long had been occupied & explored by Native Americans many millenia prior to European infiltration. What the latter DID pioneer, however, was & establishing a foundation for the future expansion & greatness of the U.S. Theirs is a moving story of persistence, endurance, & bravery but no more so than the natives. I've long been fascinated by this period in American history, the settling of the early trans-Appalachian west, our 1st west. Looking back on these films, though, one detects the smug sense of the natural European inevitability of justified conquest of both natives & the pristine land itself, & which, when viewed in today's light, rankles one a bit, for this is a most outdated, arrogant presumption, dominating what was taught in U.S. classrooms for generations, creating popular myths of European/American superiority, later reinforced by Hollywood movies & TV shows, sometimes, but rarely, accurate, usually absurdly wrong. Such, though, is life. Yes, our pioneer history can make us feel proud in some ways---one can't help but admire their incredible ingenuity & survival skills---but it all came at an extremely high cost, to countless other native cultures, leading to the pure fabrication behind much of this period of American history, implanted into our national consciousness for near 2 centuries. The ravaging of the vast, virgin wilderness alone makes the whole saga of its devastation quite sickening when you ponder the reality of that. I'm glad our historians & mythmakers are beginning to get the true story right, as well as the efforts now being made toward the preservation & restoration of our precious continental environment.
Considering You have no idea what my heritage or ancestry is besides that I have a few colonial pioneers in a section of my tree, you should probably refrain from making ignorant statements like the one you chose to make.
I don't ever hear anyone telling Navajo to give back Hopi land. Yet the Navajo are the most represented native tribe in the modern day. Taking land by force existed long before the white man showed up. You going to ask the Palestinians to give Israel back to the Israelis just because they got it by force after teaming up with the fascist Romans? It's well documented.
@@jefferyhammond1421 I think the source of your history was written on the size of Netanyahu's ass. It was still and will always be Palestine. You go back to the bitch Belfour and tell him he can promise his cloudy country but not other nations land.

All of that land was STOLEN by force. I am ashamed to be descended from these pioneers.
You could always go back to the land of your ancestors ....just saying....
