@@floatinggoose9197 ARK running properly on consoles? Not even after almost 7 (seven!) years. On many occasions I was stating it's performance in spf instead of fps. Hell, they are even strugling getting their version numbers correct! ARK is a brilliant concept, butchered by poor project management and I doubt the successor is ready for launch this year.

The main noticeable things in new generation games are: >Dense Texture Details and very high poly models/buildings etc. >More direct and indirect lighting quality with high samples. >Massive world scales.
Anyone concerned about these games being delayed, just remember that most of us would rather have a well-optimized and near-completed game than have it launch early and be disappointing (CD Projekt RED's (creator of CyberPunk 2077) huge mistake when launching).
Cyberpunk runs pretty good now cdpr did make a mistake but has nearly patched it now making them the studio with 2 great open world games witcher 3 and cyberpunk

I feel like this is just a me thing but I love open world rpgs. I think their amazing with their creativity, imagery, and adventure. The only thing I personally dislike and find it hard to game is First person vs Third person view. Idk what it is but I feel like some games in the open world RPG realm deserve a Third person option with POV scroller. Idk maybe it’s just me but me personally I’d be a more variety gamer if this small thing was added to most/all open world games.
Horizon Zero Dawn is a modern masterpiece. I had been struggling to get into a "big game" for a while, but Horizon sucked me in and I kept playing it near daily until I 100%'d it. Needless to say, Forbidden West is BY FAR my most anticipated game.

I'm on of those older gamers that have played Morrowind when it came out, and i've been very loving of every game that came from Bethesda (Oblivion, Skyrim and the Fallout series) despite their flaws, so without a doubt i am most excited for Starfield, Bethesda have always been a very ambitious developer that tries to push the envelope when they release a new game, Skyrim came out in 2011 and it's still better in a lot of way than lots of AAA open world games released these days, so many follow the tired Ubisoft formula of open world design, rather than the systems driven design with complex NPC AI that Skyrim had, i am sure Starfield will have lots of issues but i will still probably enjoy it and appreciate the things they are trying to do, because i have no doubt there will be some ambitious features in there.
Agree always loved everything from Bethesda/ZeniMax and now they are owned by Microsoft, which is great cause that lets us know EA will never own them. So I wont have to add another great studio to my EA boycott.
Skyrim never looked interesting to me. Never ever ever. I was super shocked that people were spending as much money on it as they were when it first came out and the hype was as big as it was. All that reading/dialogue, crappy looking design/uninspired dated looking/muddy colored graphics, and first person pov grossness (I’ve made _VERY FEW_ exceptions for playing first person games - such exceptions were the Bioshock series, Half Life 2, and Titanfall 2. The design and gameplay of those games were just so fantastic that it over-rode my extreme hatred for first person pov). I just really can’t stand having my view limited, especially when enemies can sneak up on my back, and moving around awkwardly like I’m a robot. I went for a third person pov Souls game instead when Skyrim came out. Much cooler *everything,* in the same genre. P.S. I _DID_ try Oblivion and Fall Out 3. And even though I got them for a mere pittance used, I still felt like I wasted money on them. I really didn’t enjoy them, and thus I didn’t get very far in ‘em.
@Joe Haha, you don't even know my age, i'm not gonna specify it either, playing morrowind when it came out doesn't mean i was a teenager when that happened..
The Saint's Row trailer was such a ridiculous caricature, I genuinely thought they were setting up a joke and the real Saint's were going to fall from the sky in a tank or something to crush the imposter saints and make a quip about how absolutely absurd they were.
Great list. Never heard of Dokev, but the art style looks amazing. Kind of looks like a little kid GTA game, but not based in reality. That and Crimson Desert I might have to keep an eye on. Kind of want to try all of these, but the reality is I might only be able to play a few. Dying Light 2 and Gotham Knights have my interest now, maybe Saints Row if the character creator is good. I will get to Breath of the Wild 2 eventually since the original is my favorite game of all time. A lot of people are down on Rockstar, but I think the GTA 5 Expanded Edition is going to shock people. I'm imaging the game is going to be like if the game came out this year instead of 2013. It might have some new bells and whistles people aren't expecting.
I think Dokev looks amazing, too. Most of these look very safe and generic, but that one looks innovative. I don't think that Sonic in an open world will work. Unless fans are willing to not do normal sonic things.
I can't believe they missed Redfall that one is supposed to be open world as well and is coming this year to Xbox. Xbox is gonna have an absolutely massive year this year for sure.

I'm looking forward to Elden Ring. I've loved every FromSoft game I've played and seeing them taking their formula and applying into an open world format is intriguing. Dying Light 2 would be 2nd, however I am watching it with cautious optimism. It is a massive step from the first game and is quite ambitious. I do hope it comes out as an amazing game.
@@UnrealAxel27 I watched an hour of gameplay from OniZombies. Don't get me wrong it looks fantastic. My main concern is that it may or may not run well on current gen consoles. They did show some on the last Dying 2 Know, but that was only about 14 seconds. If they could show about 30 minutes of uncut gameplay running on Xbox One and PS4 then I'll rest a bit easier.
The biggest problem with these open world games is when they put in 1000 side quests to do. What made BOTW work was that everything was completely optional after the starter section. You could do nothing or everything or anything between. And you could beat the game at any point of your choosing.
i'm an absolute sucker for open world games and i'm always fairly easy to please when it comes to them. you mentioned avatar falling in to the "ubisoft open world" formula and...i think that's a GOOD thing. i frickin' love how ubisoft makes giant worlds full of (mostly meaningless) things to do and find. i almost always get 100+ hours out of these games and play time is always big with me. i can see myself getting nearly every single game on this list that comes to xbox or switch. elden ring might be the only one i'm not very excited for. i just don't like dark souls and even a massive open world dark-souls-like doesn't sound that appealing to me.
@@AverageAlien the worlds are always full of stuff to do/find/see. that's what's most important to me. i wouldn't call them "lifeless and dead" at all.

I hope Dying Light 2 has some slower/safe sections for us to explore. I like the first game but It's a bit tiresome running all the time. They built a beautiful world but you never get to slow down and look around.

@@jeffreyclifton9928 I doubt that highly Starfield will likey be the one of the biggest games if the decade let alone the year. God of War will be big for the month it releases and still talked about few months after that and then it'll fade away like the previous game did. It won't be bad per se but it will have a finite end where as a game like Starfield will be massive and played for upwards of 10 years like Skyrim.
@@marky3609 Its because of concept of game is different not because they are better games in general. Most RPG games were popular or played for many years. You cannot play 15-20 hours long game not open world so many years as you can RPG with open world
So one of many super cool things about sons of the forest, it's gonna have dynamic season changes. What I mean by that is it's gonna go through the 4 seasons like in real life. From summer to fall to winter to spring and back to summer. I can't wait to see how they pull that off in a video game
Now that graphical fidelity is so much better across all gaming, where it's easier to produce realistic visuals, that means these projects should hopefully be focusing on gameplay so it stands out for new reasons beyond just how it looks.
lego star wars is nestolgia, so many of us can still remember playing lego star wars as kids, its probably the one im looking forward to the most and i will be playing it with rose tinted glasses.
How do you know it’s one of the best games coming out? It’s not out yet. My point being, cool your expectations, that way you won’t be disappointed if it’s not what you expect. We need to stop hyping games up and exercise some caution. Modern gaming has taught us that they often release a broken mess. I’m a huge Dying Light fan but I’ll be waiting for reviews before buying. We all should stop pre ordering and only buy if it’s quality. 👍🏻👍🏻.
Besides Elden Ring, the open world game I'm looking forward the most is Elex 2. While the gameplay of PB-games is always a little bit clunky, they are masters of creating interesting open worlds. The new Kirby-game is also going to be open world btw (or at least part open world).
It was only a few years ago all those games would be released only on consoles, and we would be lucky if they ever got released on PC, now nearly every one of them are being released on PC, funny how things change over time.

This looks to be a really cool year of open world games. A really good mix of beyond awesome sequels, some intriguing and full of potential new IPs. Been awhile since I’ve been exciting for a abunch of games coming out

In terms of graphics, I've never seen so many great looking games. It seems we have truly entered into the next Gen.
^^^^^ the racing games also have insane graphics now , the next gen consoles are just insane
Games? You mean pre-renders? Wait till the games come out, most of them won't look as good as they did in the trailers or "gameplay" footage.
@@LuckyStrikeLT true true , FH5 has some pretty impressive graphics though
@@LuckyStrikeLT yea yea yea.. but they gonna look wicked. It doesn’t take much imagination to understand these games will look flippin good on the current gen systems.
@@caprise-music6722 The keyword being "imagination". They might look terrible, they might look amazing. The point is you can't trust pre-release clips to show what the game will actually be on release. If you haven't learnt by now then you were either born yesterday or you're just stupid.
Open World Games still looking good for this year because of its innovation and fast maturing features just like in DreamsQuest right now as they continue developing their dreams like an environment where everyone can have an immersive experience.
40 years of seeing games evolve I have to say ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ totally blew me away! AC Valhalla was vast but nothing has come close to HZD! I’m a 60 year old female game fanatic who’s never lost the love for gaming!

@@N2music4lyfe June 21st 2022 if no additional delays.
You'll get 2 of those. It took 5 years and a new console to ALMOST run Ark properly and it's still 60 FPS.
@@floatinggoose9197 ARK running properly on consoles? Not even after almost 7 (seven!) years. On many occasions I was stating it's performance in spf instead of fps. Graphicly their last free expansion did put it in utter origami hell. As long as they can't even make this game benefit from the new gen SSD's on consoles I have little hope they can master UE5... Hell, they are even strugling getting their version numbers correct!
ARK is a brilliant concept, butchered by poor project management and I doubt the successor is ready for launch this year.

Let us also take a second and appreciate how far Snowman's comments have come nowadays.
The main noticeable things in new generation games are:
>Dense Texture Details and very high poly models/buildings etc.
My three hands down best pre-orders I've made in 2021 for 2022: Dying Light 2 - - - Horizon Forbidden West - - - Elden Ring. Don't think I'll be regretting any of these 😁

The biggest problem with these open world games is when they put in 1000 side quests to do. What made BOTW work was that everything was completely optional after the starter section. You could do nothing or everything or anything between. And you could beat the game at any point of your choosing.
