    So DC is just gonna keep making divisive and messy theatrical cuts and then decide to make up for it with an Ultimate Cut? That can't become common. Its like giving a professor a bad rough draft as your initial essay, and then months later handing in a slightly better one with all the errors fixed and saying, "this one's better, forget the original."
    I hope DC shapes up with what they put out in the theaters. SS was fun, but a mess. There's so much potential for the DC universe. I love the mythology. Love the comics.

      I hate the idea of having to shell out extra for a completed movie that I paid to see in the first place. It's like buying Battlefront but then being told you need the DLC.

    Honestly I wish DC would get their shit together. These movies have sooooooo much potential and if the reports are true, then the top brass at WB is absolutely terrible.
    Don't crank these movies out, don't over stuff these movies, develop characters, villains, story, and don't change the tone last minute! The tone is not the problem. Treat these properties right.
    Character motivations and troubling narrative seem to be the running theme with these DC movies. Just focus on fixing that!

      Film by committee works about as well as writing by committee, or anything done by committee. A bunch of people with ideas about right and wrong, vying to put their two cents in on a creative work. Let the director direct, let the editor edit. The suits will get money no matter what, so stop interfering in the process.

    • @Johnnybtv3
      @Johnnybtv3 8 лет назад +4

      Yes. It is so strange that they don't get that. And you are correct that they always seem obsessed with "tone". Any movie type can be great whether it's light or dark or snarky or dramatic etc. They seem to skip over the make-a-great-movie part and concentrate on tone.

    • @RJ-Ramen
      @RJ-Ramen 8 лет назад +2

      Johnnybtv3 thank you. Movies aren't great because of tone. They're great because of story and characters. That's what pulls you in as a viewer.

    *UPDATE- Saw it. Without a doubt it's a mess, but with great moments/characters. My issue is that the entire thing feels rushed. Starts off great then boom, they're a team. There's no build up at all. I feel like there's a 1st act, then no real 2nd, and a really crappy 3rd one. The writing also sucks, so I believe the reports of it being written in 6 weeks. WB DEFINITELY meddled. There's a great cut in there. 6.5/10*
    Seems like a fair review. Much appreciated. Watching it tomorrow night and can't wait! Look, I hate blind fanboys who immediately rage, but I do believe that SOME critics gotta be checked. Let me explain
    A lot of the reviews have VALID negatives, but I've seen some that are absurd. "It glorifies violence", "HarleyQuinn, a female, is a constant sex object and is abused", etc. THESE ARE NOT VALID NEGATIVES!
    As a reviewer, you have a voice. You're an influence. You either telling people to go or not go to a movie where people worked hard on. You need to be professional and you need to be fair!

      Harley Quinn as a character does have some sexuality issues but I've not seen the film so I can't say how this version handles it. I'm nervous from what I've heard though

      Even tho I hated bvs I don't think it deserves 27/100. It's more of a 40/100. Some critics are just way to harsh on the movie however they have so many valid arguments. I'm still gonna see this on Friday, I've been waiting for this since 2010 and the fact that I got to see this movie get shot in my hometown of Toronto plus it comes out on my birthday so I think I'm gonna really love suicide squad either way.

    The collider crew can't be taken seriously. The only negative reaction to the film as a whole was Ellis saying he "didn't love it". Grow a pair and have an opinion. This movie was awful. None of the characters had arcs, the story was awful and nonsensical, and every character was presented as a caricature. No one thought or acted in ways that are consistent with their personalities. The film looked boring, the CGI came straight out of the 90s, and the music choices were cringworthy. If these "film buffs" can't be objective because they have relationships with people in the industry, why should anyone take them seriously?

      Yup, Schnepp is the biggest comic book nerd so even though it kinda irked me how he totally bashed on BvS, i respected his opinion. You could tell that it genuinely bothered him that Superman and Batman weren't given the movie that they deserved and that he was not just hating like most of the other critics. In this video, he's almost giddy just talking about Suicide Squad so that makes me very excited!

      @blackgrlfly 8 лет назад +3

      Dude. What's it matter to you if someone checks RT to see an audience consensus? If I see a film on RT with a high score, I'm gonna watch it that's just a natural response. Don't be salty that others didn't like the movie. What you have heard from the reviewers from whom you seek validation is that the film is a *hot mess* and its only highlights are characters who got the most development because they're egotistical attention seekers (Will Smith) or acclaimed Emmy winning actresses (Viola Davis). Literally the only good thing that's been said about this film is that the team is funny but its also been stated that you spend the first 30 minutes showing how "bad" these characters are just to swop it around to gain sympathy and force certain characters to have sudden remorse for plot convenience. What you've heard is that Joker is under utilized despite the heavy (and albeit controversial) marketing towards him in the film. What you've heard is that the action in the last third of this movie is lackluster full of CGI what have you light show spectacle akin to Fant4stic. What you've heard is that this film is mediocre but that you should buy your ticket via AMC and get charged extra for concession when you could easily make your own gotdamn popcorn and watch clips of the team online seeing as that that's the only good aspect to this "disappointing" film. - Chris Stuckmann

    The film is good but has some flaws:
    1)The third act is the direct result of the Studio's interference. It's so weak.
    2)You can see there were some reshoots. There are scenes in the trailers that weren't in the movie. Some of the good stuff.

    Guardians essentially had a greatest hits throughout the movie too though. Sure they incorporated it into the Starlord's story but you know the music is only there to help carry the film. It's funny how some movies get passes and some don't.

    Great review guys. My favourite thing about the collider reviews is the fact that you have more than one reviewer. It makes for an interesting reviewing being able to see the different interpretation on certain aspect of the films.
    One thing though, I feel like you spoiled who the villain was by your description of the person, specifically their mannerisms but other than that. It's a fair review, it was also nice to see you didn't sink to the level of some critics by being outright rude and disrespectful by saying shitty things.

    Technically metahumans include people who have distorted looks, enhanced abilities, or supernatural weaponry. So technically Deadshot (never misses), Harley Quinn (changed and being able to pretty fight as she does), Katana's sword, etc. Would make them metahumans.

      Two-Face Actually yep. You must not read many comics. Plenty of times people in the comic was just a human but could do incredible stuff was thrown with the metahuman mix. It happened a lot before DC started really defining the idea of metahumans

      Kutlu Mızrak It counts because she's using a weapon with supernatural/magical abilities. They really count stuff like this in the comics when only that person can use the weapon or gear. Which more than likely only she can.

    Feels great to have The Collider Good Fellas assembled once again, led by Supreme Leader Campea: You guys Love what you do & we appreciate you sharing that with us viewers!!!
    I was seriously considering not seeing this flick because of the reviews I've looked over thus far...which have brought me crashing down to earth after the stellar trailers got me sky-high optimistic. After seeing this well-rounded review, I'm back on the bandwagon to see this film!! Schnepp's & Harloff's POVs are a great litmus test of how one may feel about the movie...I think it'll ease the fears of some who may think their opinions are too extreme.

    I don't think critics are intentionally bias. They've had years to build up a liking to Marvel characters and all of a sudden getting thrown into a movie like Suicide Squad. If DC had a slow build up like Marvel where you introduce the world, the big players, THEN make Suicide Squad they may have been less critical.

    John Campea, if you listened closely, you would know that the discussion about "Meta humans" was not about "Task Force X" but instead about the "Specific characters" in the "Folder" in the "ending credits". Task Force X was simply her point of reference/Answer to " How can you control the Meta humans ?" this point was made during the dinner scene and the conference room scene.

    john i totally respect what youve built in the movie talk show from amc to collider. you really have made an amazing mark, and ive been a fan since the VERY beginning. that being said, even though you are still the "commander in chief" behind the scenes, i find it a bit disrespectful to the current hosts and panel members when a major event comes up (like a tent-pole film, etc,) and you're once again the host for that episode. not saying i dont want to see you, but let the guys you gave the regins to actually host the show that we know them to be the host of. come and be the panel member for the big stuff (your input is always great to hear). i love seeing ya, but i love to see the hosts be the hosts....not the guy who used to be the host commandeer the ship when a big event comes along. no disrespect. still love ya pal.

    Accumulated Collider gave this movie a 6.84 out of 10. Higher than BvS. Thats worth going to see. Basically you can have fun with this movie, but if your a deep movie buff that looks at every detail. You got to realize this movie is for a younger audience. They are speaking of rated R for part 2 if the rating and gross is good.

    I just got back from watching Suicide Squad, and it was a blast! Ignore the haters and movie critics, they're just mad because they still think comics are for kids (a perpetual stereotype in Western countries). This ain't some family friendly Disney film, fuck that shit (language! oops, sorry Cap). People die in this movie, there are consequences for your actions in this movie and innocent bystanders become casualties, like you would expect in the real world. Now some people didn't like the editing, especially at the beginning of the movie, but if you look at it like you're watching a comic book it makes sense. Hey, if Quentin Tarantino can do it with 'Kill Bill', then Bill Ayers can do it with Suicide Squad. I'm not about to bring any spoilers, but I will say that Jared Leto's Joker is way "over the top" and that's a damn good thing. Go watch the movie and see for yourself, it's well worth the $13.

    WB needs to let the director's original vision for the film stand. In regards to Suicide Squad, most of the negative reviews I've read have all pertained to the editing of the film. WB wanted a lighter tone whereas David Ayer wanted a more somber tone. The director was ultimately forced into a situation where he had to compromise his original vision to meet the studio's demand.

    This could easily be the most non-bias fair review of positive and negatives. I haven't seen it but at least they used the words this is "my opinion" instead of making it a fact although the one thing that does seem to be a fact is the bad narrative and script in the film. Can't wait to see it tomorrow pretty sure I'm gonna have similar views to Dennis and Schnepp in terms of enjoyment

    Looks like WB/DC should hire you guys as a focus group for their next debacle. Maybe your suggestions can fix their ongoing issues.

    It was good not great. Characters were all brilliant but villain was bad. Story and editing were what messed it up. 7/10

    These videos will be up forever, so it will be interesting to see how these movies - Marvel + DC - stand the test of time + how prescient the reviewers comments will sound in, say, 5 years time, cos I'm old enough to remember of how gleeful the original the Star Wars prequels were received.

    I'm with Schnepp, 8/10. There's mess, weak third act but the characters were great. This is not like TMNT, Transformers, BvS, GL or Fantastic 4 no matter what critics say.

      I really loved Batman V Superman but that's my thoughts but I'm looking forward to Suicide Squad.

    Just out of seeing it myself, most of what has been said here is pretty fair (factoring your own tolerances and preferences on top of course), and score wise I'd probably go 6.75 (assuming 5 is average, 7.5 is really good and 10 is perfect).
    All the characters are fun, and assuming you can make some jumps in logic you'll have a decent time. The villian is horrendous though (a combo of Doctor Doom from last years Fantastic Four and Gover from Ghostbusters), not just itself but basically everything surrounding it is sucked in too, it is a shame but I had the same idea as Kristian where if you made this movie again with Joker as the primary antagonist (and cutting the budget way down in the process, as this movie looks way more expensive than it needed to be) you could rather easily fix most of the big issues. But it is competent edited and flows pretty well (I do agree with Kristian again that the barrage of licensed music was too much, although it didn't end up sullying it as much for me as it did him I agree just letting the score do its work would have been preferable) and is my favourite of the 3 current crop of DC's movies... it just diesn't quite transcend the genre it is apart of and ends up being a mostly solid superhero flick.
    So yeah, not quite doom and gloom, but it also could have been a bit better
