I haven't heard this song in probably 49 years. I remembered that they nailed it in a very simple and straightforward way. If anyone could post The Escape of John Webb, I'd love to hear it. It is an obscure song that they did beautifully.
...I like their arrangement of the song, and I really like the stretch by the Trio with the harmony...they use a discordant, soulful finish, that's a slight jar after the somewhat lilting feel, reminding us, that Old Bill didn't end up very well...
One of my favorite Kingston Trio albums. I asked each of them what were theirs
ANOTHER OLD FAVORITE OF MINE FROM THE KINGSTON TRIO WITH DAVE GUARD! I STILL LOVE IT! THANKS FOR SHARING! R.K.3/6/2021.
My father used to sing this song around the house, in the car, wherever.

Please do. It is a great song.
Written by Bill Cosby's live-in nephew.
I come to this tune via Dylan's fantastic version on the new Bootleg Series, Another Self Portrait. Both are great versions.
Bob Dylan does this song wonderfully on his bootleg series Another Self Portrait , Don't miss it.
Strange version... just sounds too happy given the subject matter.
I love the KT but on this song I prefer the version by The Chad Mitchell Trio:

This version sounds like elevator music compared to Dave Van Ronk.
Well that's kind of the whole trip of the Kingston Trio.
I totally agree with you. DVR had a rich jazz/blues background so he invested that kind of hardcore soul.
Well I'm happy wre have both.

I always loved this song and the Kingston Trio. However, I have a more lively version in my head. Anybody?
