How long does it take to become a profitable trader? How many years does it take to become a profitable trader? I think that if you allow 4 years that's a reasonable estimate. How long does it take to be a successful day trader? For me a profitable trader is someone who can take regular money out of the markets. What did you do to become a profitable trader? How long did it take you to become profitable at forex trading or trading stocks? OK.

Mar 15 was 4 years for me. I am only now starting to be net positive. Still trading small, still have serious drawdowns on occasion when my alter ego shows up, but I right the ship, and those drawdowns are becoming less and less, and believe I can see the potential going forward. I think if I had worked harder earlier full time, perhaps been more motivated it could have been quicker, but had to work. Every thing you have said is 100% spot on Mark.

Sound like a real trader. Keep saying small untill you account balance is big enough that you never need to think twice. Sounds like you doing something right.
Maybe keep some sticky notes on/in your pc desktop that are so important to your trading (fundamental) to keep a reminder.

1 ½ year and now started trading in my cash account. I honestly don't expect to get rich quick but it's the slow progress and small achievements. The more you spend studying the faster you can make it. Trading is like going to the gym for me, I can't blame anyone but myself for the results I want with no work being put in. It takes time and focus(I mean real focus, you have to be hungry for this lifestyle)Best of luck to all, especially those who are starting like myself.
Don't ever quit even if it takes 5+ years. I'm chasing after my financial freedom and hope you all are too :)

I’ve been trading for 14 months and I’m still not profitable. A couple of months ago I had my second green week, which I really classed as my first to be fair.
Most days that week I captured daily $15 - $20 dollar moves on Tesla and then the market changed a week later and I didn’t know what hit me. I 100% get what you mean about learning the different market conditions. I have experienced that.
I have only a very small amount of capital, there would be no point in adding more money to my account right now.
That being said, I have come a long long way. My technical analysis is fabulous from where it was, still working on my emotions etc…. I love it and I know, it’s going to work out for me. It’s definitely a process. Love your vids by the way 😀

Started Aug 20 and what an incredible journey. Left my job and followed my dream. Saved to make sure I had funds behind me but it is hard seeing them reduce each month. I was under no illusion I would own a supercar next month!!!! Demo for over a year on US Futures and then went live. Had 1 & 2 sorted very quickly with excellent risk management. Experienced 3 and now at 4. It's a challenge as I've experienced so much volatility since starting and don't want to blow my account so probably trading too small. Holding my own more now but not much profit. I guess I look at it that I'm training for free and that I'm lucky to experience the trading conditions of QE, QT and war!!! I hope I can make it long term.

It depends. profitability to me is basically being able to trade continuously and have a net positive return. Someone can take one trade at the beginning of the year and record a profit at the end of the year but that doesn't make them a profitable trader, compared example to someone that trades 2 times a day and record a profitable month.

  • @b.7944

I think with a daytime job and trading as a side job, it can take years to become a good trader. You have to concentrate on the market to be profitable.

  • @austinbashara5154

1.5 years (on and off sense i was 16 with demo accounts, so I'm saying 1.5 years) I'm 19 now and been profitable for a good 7 months stight. I should add that I'm not really in it for the money, I mean backI was when I was 16 but now its more of an unhealthy obsession of trying to win, not make a lot of money fast but have winning trades and make money long term. Ya 1.5 years doesn't sound like a long time but I use to spend 6 hours a day learning, failing, retrying with a new point of attack. Even to this day I spend 2-3 hours testing new stragiest, reading, backtesting, ex. normally between trades. So yeas you can do it in under 2 years, only if your littlarly end your social life XD.

Great vid as always. All of this sounds good to me too but I’d probably say the change in strategy rule is debatable. For example, if you’ve backtested a strategy over a certain number of years and you’ve run that strategy live for a year, and it appears to be doing what testing says it should be doing, then to change strategy at some point based on the way it looks like the market is going is almost like saying that you know what’s going to happen hence the need for another strategy. You could say that if you have more than one strategy and they are all backtested then yes, changing strategy to one that fits this market today is the right thing to do.
I may have answered my own debate here but if you have multiple strategies then you have to know them intimately and know that they can profit so that you can switch between them with confidence.

I got to scaling and then abunch of discipline and strategy issues presented themselves that weren't present before increasing scale. It's definetly not a linear path. Took a massive step back after giving +4 months of profit on one botched trade. The more I trade, the more I appreciate the value of screen time, and experience. I'm hoping to find consistent profitability throughout year 2, but I know it could take longer, and I've accepted that.

a long... long ... time... the problem is its very hard to know whether you are long term profitable.. even if you are profitable over a few months... so about two years of const profit... I'd consider that very safe to say profitable... although 1 year should be ok of consistent good performance..
I'd say it takes over 5 years of constant daily market exposure... maybe with targetted learning.. perhaps it could be less.. but i always say trading is less of an academic venture... and more like learning to ride a uni-cycle whilst juggling.. in the circus.. or learning to spin 20 plates on sticks.. or perhaps learning spear fishing... etc. But if you can do it... and reliably make money.. then that is a superpower... but then again, there are easier skills to master to make money..
If it were easy, then retail investors would be sucking all the liquidity out of the markets... and they'd ban trading... leverage would be banned; its only because most lose money that all that easy access exists..

One year and 3 months in the market gives me better ideas about the market conditions. Yes, it is a long journey.
