Erik is the unsung hero of death metal
What an amazing performance! On 2013 I had the honor to be in the support band for Hate Eternal for 42 dates in the USA. On the 20th date my amp collapsed and Mr Rutan himself let me use his amp for the rest of the tour. What a legend! Only respect and admiration for the great Erik Rutan.
cool story bro...
So sick brother! He's a machine! 🤘
🤘🏼👊🏼🤘🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Wasn't that the Hate Eternal and Fear Factory tour?
good for you
Rutan rules. In my opinion he is the most criminally underrated metal guitar player/death metal vocalist of all time.
Also he appears to be the nicest dude ever in interviews
PIZZA He had sex with a pizza?
@@SentientSeven he is. I've met him and he's the nicest guy in the world.
Titant2 crazy talented! ☝️
Evidence suggests that he and HE are certainly underrated. I remember seeing HE on tour with Vital Remains and the crowd size was pathetic
That picking hand is TIGHT. The lead is exquisite. What a beast.
Rutan is among the elite, one of the best extreme metal guitarists of all-time.
The King of All Kings!
His solos have so much soul and emotion, which is very rare in Death Metal.
As far as I can remember (And I've listened tons of death metal stuff) - only Chuck Schuldiner (R.I.P.) played such an emotional and soulful solos.
What we perceive as emotion is subjective, but I'd argue there's a bunch of guitarists out there putting in this level of emotion in their leads:
Kyle Rasmussen of Vitriol
Luc Lemay of Gorguts
Marlon Friday of Abhorrent
just to name a few.
I appreciate the sentiment of Rutan but death metal is some of the most soulful. check the leads on horrendous' The chills. The clues in the title because I get goosebumps just thinking about some of those solos
Rutan and Dave Suzuki are one of the few were the music is chaos and destruction but the solos are soo melodic.
That bass tone should be forever immortalized somewhere, somehow.
What a beast. Not only has Rutan produced countless incredible DM records, but godDAMN can he play.
Are you ready for the new cannibal corpse album
@@isaiahgrandt5305 if it sounds like bloodthirst? If it’s torture or skeletal or any of that crap they retired to me.
He started as a musician first, producer second, after all.
I'm mesmerized by his picking, he's so smooth. I don't really understand how he does two downstrokes and string skips at the same time so smoothly.
Smooth and he's also picking HARD. Really underrated in the world of metal guitarists.
@Dig Ol' Bicks You'd be surprised how often this doesn't always work out. Some guys have a really gifted intuitive sense for how to accomplish what they're doing technically, or at least how to seek it out. Simple practice doesn't necessarily get you there.
@Dig Ol' Bicks I'm with you, practice - not maintenance. There's been a plethora of books, videos going back to the 80s, at least for metal/shredding stuff. Eric's also been a pro-musician for 25+ years, the folks who pick things up easily are possibly more interested & motivated than others - I recall ppl I knew from middle to high school who'd stick it out for a year and move on, or their 'band' was more about hanging out with friends than anything else.
Anyway - Eric's fucking amazing and underrated for sure, but he's built a solid reputation with Mana Studios which is noteworthy in itself.
Inside picking ftw. Eddie played similar pattern on Diver Down's "hang em' high." Just gotta take it slow with mass repetition, while watching family guy or something to distract from the tedium.
@@kennethfrazee2540 It looks more like he's doing some sort of two-string sweep motion, there's no change of pick angle. Down up-down down up-down down
Hate Eternal is so underrated. Truly one of the heaviest bands in Death Metal, period.
HATE ETERNAL IS THE DEFINITION OF DEATH METAL
Fans of death metal know this...
I couldn’t disagree more
another underrated click biatch
Eric is a legit guitar god. It's about time everyone realizes it.
I’d expect better riffing than this for that title but whatever’s. I loved king of all kings record and the lead on God of the forsaken
Guitar god might be a mis-title but death
Metal god he is forsure. Without him who knows what Morbid Angel would’ve turned out like, also Dreaming With The Dead is an amazing record by Ripping Corpse, and of course his work with Hate Eternal and his production work with so many great bands that credit him for their crisp, yet full and pronounced, non watered down sound. He’s a sponge when it comes to learning new things it seems to me, and someone with that much ambition and energy to put towards something like death metal, mannnn, dude must have some serious relationship problems lmao but he’s a great legend and we’re blessed to have him in Cannibal corpse now❤️🔥👌🏻
@@stonemaster234 I agree. Fantastic talent.
Erik Rutan, the true Death Metal Warrior - long live to the legend
I love how you can actually hear the bass grinding in the mix!
In fairly certain dragons have been slain with that guitar
Always wanted someone to bring from the shadows artists like Rutan or Hoffman brothers into the lights of RUclips production videos. Seeing Erik that close killing it with the help of this deadly beautiful Bcrich ironbird custom shop makes me happy. It was only through 90s morbid angel DVD bootlegs that one could enjoy Rutan's craft !! Cheers from Morocco.
Rutan is a beast, the whole composition is like a perpetual guitar solo
no its not...its structured riffs...
A fucking METAL BEAST!!!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻💀💀💀💀🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@patrickoconnor3893 its not a solo...
@@garystarkey726 I never said it was.
@@garystarkey726 HOWEVER.....his riffs AS WELL AS his licks in the last 30 seconds were BEASTLY!!!!
He is one of 4 of my Favorite guitar players all time. Trey,Rutan,Skolnick,Mustaine. Him and Trey were magical.
yea but what about terrance Hobbs? (Suffocation)..........
I agree... but would also like to throw in Doug Cerrito and Terrance Hobbs on Pierced from within into the ring as well
I hope he starts bringing these badass solos to CC
CC new single shows Rutans influence in the band now.
He already has.... he figured out every solo for their huge song set.... 😄😄😄💪🙏🥁🎶🎶😊🇺🇸
He just did a play through video for a new song. Fucker rips!
I was hoping the same when I heard he'd joined.
And he has.
Riffing mad man
Erik knows what he's doing.
Love the melodic solo, Reminds me of his playing in Alas
Am i the only one that kept waiting for his head to begin turning in circles?
Killer guitar work all the way through, but from 4:17 on is just incredible, and really shows what makes Rutan such a special death metal guitarist. Still writing killer stuff after almost three decades. Maybe the most underrated legend in death metal history.
This guy has so much power in his right hand
Beautiful guitar and amazing talent
Edit: holy shit those solos.
I keep coming back to this. What an absolutely unbelievable performance. At 3:25 I had to double check to see if I had the playback speed set to higher than normal lmfao
Listen, all I’m saying is that Cannibal Corpse should play King of All Kings on the next tour with dual vocals.
Doubt Paul Mazurkiewicz can play that fast
It wouldn’t be the same to hear that song with 180bpm blast beats
TJ Kombo how can you tell the difference in songs? Corpesgrinder songs all sound the same dude!
Paul would have a heart attack
Now Rutan is in CC...
Erik kicking some serious Ass! Saw him with cannibal corpse and he was incredible he's the only one that can fill in for pat and plays pats parts perfectly. And I've been a huge fan of Hate Eternal and cannibal since I can remember.
Agreed
An amazing player, humble guy, and a Death Metal living legend with many contributions to the art!
That solo section makes my nether regions tingle
Yeah its pretty amazing dude!
it sounds pretty Loomis-ish, but without the crazy sweeping stuff
The feel on that solo reminds me more of James Murphy, especially the vibrato and the whammy..
Also without the crazy sweeping arpeggios
Very phoenix like
It's like after watching and listening to Erik Rutan , He is the complete game changer I feel as if I don't know nothing about my guitar 😢😢😢 , I know he didn't just started rip Shredding out of nowhere...So Amazing ❤❤
Rutan has written a lot of amazing, one of a kind pieces. But that solo might be the most beautifully written thing he's ever created
Moving back and forth between the weird tempo and key changes like butter..Hail Rutan..
My favorite track off the new album, man. I clicked on this so fast. The riffs are freakin' awesome.
I know I'm supposed to be watching Rutan play, but I couldn't help but admire that sweet looking PC under the desk. Nice setup!
Erik is an insanely crushing-tight rhythm guitarist! His picking style is sharp as a razor and heavy as an anvil! One of the best!!A very challenging and inspiring musician!!
Rutan is one of my absolute favorites. The dude writes some of the most crushing stuff out there
I got to stand like 4 feet in front of Eric at a small show in El Paso, Texas in the early/mid 2000's. Absolutely blew me the fuck away. Ever since then, he's been one of my all-time favorite death metal guitarists. Plays the absolute SHIT out of his instrument.
I like to stand a bit further back or atleast i think i would. Both times that i saw Hate Eternal I was at the front and damn do you get hit with his hand spray. The guys a friggin beast with them instruments, makes em earn their keep.
Fuck I’m awesome, I actually live 3 hours from El Paso lol
Dude’s a metal legend. And for such a brutal composer, his soloing tends towards incredible melodicism. In this video, Erik’s precision right hand is really shown to perfection. Tight, aggressive and awesome. I own (almost) everything he’s ever done, both as a band member and as a producer. Hail.
3:45 through the end of the song is pure beauty. Especially the solo
YESSSS OF ALL SONGS ON THE ALBUM, I WAS HOPING FOR THIS ONE. The riffs and solo section are just...Goddamn breathtaking.
That right hand alone is ridiculous! 👍
Best solos in death metal, freakin love the harmonizer and melodies he deploys!
Outstanding performance, the final solo is out of this world
Killer custom shop B.C. Rich.
He bought it off some dude on Ebay 😄
@@DSchea lol no he didn't. He talks about the guitar in a tour video of his studio. A buddy had it made and had to sell it but would only sell it to Erik.
Kyle Watson You’re absolutely right Kyle he bought it off of Joey Capizzi from The Dying light my best friend Brandon was in the band also and they use that same guitar to record their dying light albums and then afterwards Joey Capizzi had sold it to Eric. Joey and my boy Brandon actually recorded the albums in Eric’s studio in Florida
@@archdruid9955 it really is a cool guitar. I love the pickup choices and why. And thats cool you guys are part of death metal history in that way because that guitar is legendary at this point.
Kyle Watson When Joey Capizzi had it it had diMarzio pick ups and a Kahler tremolo. You should check out the albums the dying light survival guide to the apocalypse and the killing plan old school East Coast death thrash
That solo and that riff under always reminds me of the ALAS project! Simply fantastic!
Masterful performance
The solo fits the song so well which is a very rare feature in death metal
best part is 00:00 05:51
i wasn't in the mood for this, but i am now gonna scroll up to check the length of the video... if the video ends at 5:51, oh, god help me.... and god help you..
This dude has been an influence on my playing before i even knew his name
What the world needs now is more Erik Rutan playthroughs. Top notch playing, excellent sounding performances. Thanks for the upload.
This whole album as a instrumental piece would be awesome!
Rutan not even breaking a sweat!
Hate Eternal just gets better almost every album. The last 2 albums were just as good as I, Monarch. Erik Rutans stage presence is formidable. Always support Hate Eternal
One of my favorite guitar players of all time!
Eric is one of my favourite guitarist, super talented, his is a riff master and his solos are spacious, with deep soul and melody! New album absolute masterpiece!!
Had to rewatch this again, sounds excellent .
Thank you for uploading this. Rutan is a beast!
Definately one of the 5 best death metal guitarists out there....!! Amazing riffing....
I hear so much ALAS at the end of the song. As soon as the solo starts, and that backing rhythm. Fuck yes!
that solo make me cry every time when i listen it
goddamd brilliant
Such a great guitarist. His overall talent in music, with all he does is amazing. That picking is insane.
Bloody love that tone
I’ve been waiting for this!!
That is excellent! I want more of these playthrough! 👌🏼
Rutan is an amazing ambassador for the world of metal. Killer musician, songwriter, vocalist and producer. Absolute beast.
Saw him with cannibal. No drop off from pat and thats saying something. Crazy stage energy. Helps that he produces them
Wow what a guitar master .Love the new album erik .And keith what a great job on the video well done.
Omg !!!! He makes it look so smooth !! It's like it's just flowing right out of his hands and the only reason he's looking down is to enjoy the show !!!
Dang !!!!!!
Erik absolutely slaying them strings! Love his BC Rich!
This song is awesome. Erik you rock man!
Hail Erik Rutan! Amazing! Thank you both for sharing this!
Erik is a beast.
Brutal collab!
One of my favorites for sure
Every hair on my body was stood on end the whole time. When the solo hits it just melts you into a puddle with all hope destroyed. Absolutely God-Like.
Rutan has such an inventive, angular style of riffing. It is mesmerizing to listen and to watch.
Erik is a Death Metal God \m/
Absolutely incredible player! Criminally underrated!
However I will say and I know you pride yourself with this; Eric, that your picking skills, as you know are unmatched.
Rutan is amazing...such incredible talent. Hail!!
Fantastic composition.
Insane.
And a lush tasteful solo
Super cool video! Thanks for posting your play through.
Erik and I have very similar lead styles. That just makes why i love his playing just that much more! Great song! Great playing!
🔥B.C. RICH IRONBIRD 🔥ALREADY DESERVES THUMBS UP 👍 🔥THE PLAY THRU ALSO RULES!!! 🤘🔥
Amazing solo!
plays with ease 🔥
Erik is fucking death metal legend, Ive been hyped for this video. Awesome stuff as always
I forgot about this solo. Thanks for the reminder!
Rutan! Eric is an unbelievable guitar player. I hope they're will be some more play throughs of some more classic Hate Eternal songs.
Look at that insanely fast string skipping at the beginning, and he is doing it do naturally
Yeah! Amazing video. Ive been fan of Rutan since The Ripping Corpse days ! thank you 🤘
This is DEATH METAL!!!! Erik and Hate Eternal just rule!!! This is pure motivation to see this awesome play through! Erik, we need more stuff like this !!!!!!
Really melodic and tasteful solos in extremely brutal and technical death metal is so fucking sick.
Eric is a death metal king and that iron bird is his scepter with which he reigns supreme. Hail
Beautiful melodic solos
Wow all I can say to that is amazing!! This is what we’re missing here, greetings from Austin Texas!!
I can't really say nothing...I mean, may I can...! Erik Rutan is our "Mozart of Death Metal" he's a genius, a fantastic guitar player, an amazing musician! What a talent he has,it's incredible! That dual solo with the harmonies f..in blows my mind! Thanks for this amazing video Keith Merrow!
I remember Keith Merrow from the Agile Guitar forums around 2008-10, can't believe how far he's come! So glad I got to see Eric with Cannibal last November, probably the best live guitar sound/mix I've heard, thick/dense and articulate, would love to see Hate Eternal as well.
Awesome. Much respect to Erik 🤘🏻🤘🏻
