@@jonas639 If memory serves, the topic at the time was the benefits of a map vs. theater of the mind. Matt brought this incident up as one of the benefits of having the full map - he had no plans for that drill cart, it was just there to communicate the flavor of an abandoned mineshaft. And then Orym used it as a prompt for this move. On the flip side, I seem to recall him arguing that sticking to theater of the mind, or even a marker-drawn map, means that there's more onus on the players to think of what would be in the space that would be useful as leverage, and not all groups are adept at that, nor are all GMs good at the improv aikido necessary to incorporate their suggestions.

Liam is and always will be my favourite. Not only does he live in these worlds like the others do, but he also thrives in them. If I were ever isekai'd into a D&D campaign, I'd want Liam on my side
Good move. Reminds me of the time my D&D character used a bead of force on one if the monsters and then literally tossed it off the map so that it would fall to its death.
Matts a damn artist. He let him do something crazy "good cool factor should be added to any roll" but he didn't let it slide. Now make a dexterity role bc what you did was crazy!
I love how fast this random off the wall action is adjudicated. Matt really is great at making his players feel smart, and giving each player their time to do so
He's the kind to not use items in games cause there is always something stronger to fight. Until there isn't and inventory is just filled with powerful trinkets unused lol
So, not to down on the moment, and I may have missed this when watching the episode as I listen at work, but did the shade mother die before they left? I was under the impression they left her there with the intention of coming back and I haven't heard anything else about her since.
They did leave her there, I'd imagine the Green Seekers would have informed the city guard of the giant slug monster living below, but nothing is said of it in the campaign. It would be cool if they return to Jrusar at some point after or during a horrific shade creeper attack.
Said series has not even been made yet. They're on their 3rd campaign. Current show is the first one, they're working on making the second one now htough.
Ah! as and old school dnd player i can recognize an old school player move too! Liam is very close to my age and have played old school too. That was what dnd was about in the day! This kind of creativeness was necessary to survive. Nowadays all seems too videogamey and restricted. Sure now is much tidy and structural but in the old days things like this were much common.
Genius move by Liam, but dumb decision making by the group. This was one of the dumbest things they did in fact. This was the end of that storyline. There was treasure all over the cave for them. And they ran away. They were broke and remained broke for a long time after this. Almost as dumb as when they ran away from that dragon in mighty Nein campaign, and Deborah Ann Woll killed it. But they didn’t get any of the treasure Matt wanted them to get.
Liam was an Excellent Wizard. I miss Caleb. Marisha and Laura cant hold candle to him in this campaign. Honestly I wish for Liam to play Magic class again. He could turn things around.
I'm sure it was only thanks to this action that they survived😎
Fearnes sunlight spell was helpful too.
It will be fun to see that animated at some point in the future.

Liam: Pulls off a move right out of a movie scene
Also Liam: "My rope 😞 "
Frankly a "I just got that rope" quip is very movie esque.
The way the music ends when Liam says “I drop the rope into the drill” is absolutely EPIC
Hahah and everyone gasp, nice catch
Liam pulls shit like this and does not even seam the slightest bit exited about it while everyone else freaks out how damned cool that was!!!
He was absorbing the moment!
He doesn't congratulate himself, either because of who he is, or because of his character.

Two of the greatest things to have in an RP party of D&D; creativity and ROPE

Physical characters?... Lol. Remember when Caleb got charmed and almost tpk'd the party? Liam's scary with ALL characters.
intelligence and most importantly, IMAGINATION make for the absolute best roleplay. And Liam has both in spades.

Which fits, since he is basically the Reason Critical Role even came to be, if you think about it.
Orym is the strategic genius keeping so much afloat against the standardized sea of their self perpetuated chaos and I absolutely adore it.
I remember when i saw this happen on the live stream my mouth was wide open from pure amazement from such an amazing idea
Liam always looks so terribly stressed in game I love it
I love how it was just a terrain piece and it caused them to be so creative
Read the title, guessed the moment, was right. Liam is a genius, no question about it
Playing a rogue for a long time necessitates creativity, which transfers well to a fighter
