Thanks for tuning in as always!

Quick suggestion... I use neodymium magnets to clasp cables to batteries while testing the cells. 2 magnets each side to grab the cable. If you solder cables onto a washer you only need one magnet per side ;) Obviously dont solder a wire to the magnet as the heat will really damage the magnet.
Saves alot of hassle
pro trick : you can watch series at kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using it for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
@Holden Rey Definitely, I've been watching on kaldrostream for months myself =)
@Holden Rey yup, have been using Kaldrostream for years myself :D
Did you check the cell interrupt device (CID) under the positive post?
This pop open when the cell vents. They don't reset. I've had a dead cell measure 2.8volts once i poped the CID back in.
Also those red Sanyo cells seem to be the worst in me experience always going into thermal run away during charging.
hmmm
+s15melb no I didn't and I agree red cells suck
i missed that , did the lower charge battery draw down others ? SO do the voltages of the cell equalise over time when stood idle ( or no charge no load ) ? Sorry i missed out on the ending meaning .
thanks for that test - ponder this, im about 2000 cells into my wall, I have a fancy 4 way charger tester that is very accurate (I trust that it's repeatable) - I accidentally tested a couple of cells that had already been tested and had their capacity labeled, but the second test was vastly different (much lower) - so I tested it again and again (stimulating a few charge/discharge cycles) - the capacity started at 2300, then 330! then 1200, 1850, 600 - and I've found a few more cells that show the same behaviour - so - I'm now going to run every cell through 3 charge/discharge cycles (recording the capacity each time) to ensure I have a capacity that is repeatable - just a few such cells would drag the capacity of a pack way way down (as you have found)
The dischargers are only an educated guess if the cells are good. Check out my facebook I did a very quick test the just yesterday with two different dischargers.
1700mah at what continous amps was it tested originally to get 1700?
Brother, u should NOT solder to li-ion, the long heat to solder damages the battery inside RISKing Explosion espec on the negative terminal side where its tighter to the insides. There are some pretty good Portable Spot Welders battery operated (looks like power bank but its not) for the nickle (or nickle plated) ribbon connectors, i just got one and it has an auto detect mode so you don't need a footswitch to operate it... the name on unit says "KERPU" but its listed on amazon as "Zhuvatar Portable Spot Welder Machine with Brassy Mini Spot Welder Pen for DIY 18650 Battery Energy Storage, charges up with c type cable. $65 ?
arr this video was so many moons ago.. Kweld...
Alligator clips, because they look like the jaw. Of course bulldog clips look nothing like a bulldog though :(
lol cheers -
heya oke that is a nice test
"Masters is closing down so I went there and got heaps of solder!" Hahaha
+ElectricBike (Bruno) saved 20% lol I'll take that.
That cell went to cell heaven.
RIP - you were one of the strong!
Good video 👍👌 👍👌👌👍 👍👍 👍👍 👍👍 👍. thanks
THanks bud
where are you getting all your batteries? what would you recommend being the best way to obtain all the cells?
Hard work and a telephone type device, call until you find some for sale. there is no magic to the process..
ah just seen your FB tests, they show some capacity differences - I suppose maxing the pack size and not "raping" the pack so low (and bottom balance before assembly of course)
Yeh it all helps, alto I think I'm in the "top balancing club" but that's a Holden Ford thing :) It's all learning - and I'm here for the long ride.
I didnt really understand the conclusion... the cell did not charge, therefore it is a faulty cell?
Cell was a dead short so was a heating element
How did you get to the conclusion that this specific cell was bad if they were all connected in parallel?
Fuse was blowen
Lol, that was easier than expected.
May have been interesting to measure the current while you're at it.Though I guess we know it wasn't any significant amount of current anyway.
Back in those days, I had no way of doing that unfortunately
Well, the multimeter you used in the video can measure current unless the fuse is blown. But the mA and uA ranges (which would have been the only necessary ones in this case) have a resettable fuse, so I'm not sure what you mean.
Fuse is constantly blown given up on replacing it. I'm not a good judge of 10 amps :)
Yeah, I know what that's like... ;-) In this case the current was most likely in the milli or micro amp range, so it would have probably been measurable, not that the exact current is really particularly relevant in this case though I guess.
Do you put fuse wire over your 18650 packs? if so what rated wire ? thanks
+steve64464 it is covered in the "battery shed video " can't link it at the moment on my phone
Sorrys i must of missed it , Im just making a small battery pack that has twelve cells configured into 4 individual cells totalling to about 16V , Ive separated each individual cell of 4 with 5amp fuse wire which is prob too low come to think of it.
ruclips.net/video/akRmSibJyTM/видео.html in the description of that vid buddy
Thanks :-) . Just wondering do you have any fire/damage control in case that shed catches for or something? that would be scary.
Naturally....lol two fire extinguishers and smoke alarms in both sheds :) ooh and garden hose heeh
Results are still results.
I would think think the internal switch just under the positive cap popped up. If you drill a small hole into the cap you could use your probe of your test meter to push it back down, some times the drill will push it back down.
+Beeman Minnesota Nar straight in the bin :)
Have you got a spot welder ? they are cheap as chips
Chips are like 2 bucks, can't imagine I'd get a very good one for that price...lol
Those red Sanyo cells really are the worst. I tend to avoid any laptop packs that say "made in Japan" because 90% of them have Sanyo cells. The LG and Samsung cells are much better in my experience. Why waste time going through packs that are most likely gonna have junk cells? haha
I have 1000's of Sanyo cells that are perfectly usable - that said i probably have had 10,000 that aren't lol
You are wasting your time soldering the alligator clips to the batteries. We have plenty of hard drives go bad in our shop and, when they do, we take the magnets out of the drives. They stick very nicely to battery ends. We test and charge the batteries that way.
Yep done that for years also - it was just a process :)
Alligator clips
spoiler alert ...lol
HBPowerwall Yeah...
what's your FB linky ?

Does anyone want some solar Panels ?? 1.5 kw system 5 years old, with all brackets ect, $700 or $100 per 210 w panel
to make the process easier can you also list panel voltage and amp - also location.
They are still on my roof so , voltage 36v and 8.2 A . at Birkdale 4159. call 0404444775 Ron
Sorry couldn't watch anymore - stupid noise happened!
It was me talking wasn't it :) lol
