Come on then you Janice-lovers... Pass or Fail?! Rank us each from 'Best' to 'Barry'!!
In my opinion the dish is a Pass but I feel like Barry was a Fail (as far as giving him a badge)
Jamie and Mike passed, Barry..? Not sure about that badge...
Jaime, Mike, James aaaaaannnnd Barry. Lmao!
Jamie and Mike did great. Barry was there too.
Overall a Pass. Normally I'd go to bat for Barry but today, not so much. In 20 minutes he scooped ice cream. I think sometimes Barry is too creative for his own good. That said, he should never change.
Badge for Jaime ✅. Score 8
Badge for Mike ✅. Score 7
Badge for Barry ❌. Score 3
Mike's last round was entirely "Have you studied for the exam yet?" "The exam was yesterday, Mike"
We now need both him and James asking "where's the dish?" on the intro.
I had a similar situation. When I was in highschool I studied for the final with the mid term notes... still aced it but I had a pucker moment.
When Mike went off about "This has Barry F****** Taylor written all over it", I absolutely lost it. A+ job boys.
The fact that he was so right as well I love it
Barry's baked Alaska idea is not good. It's a far more fiddly dish to make than meringue tarts.
Barry can actually make baked Alaska IF he had simply kept the ice cream frozen, the final product has not been so... runny kinda ruining the point of a baked Alaska.
“he actually listens. He listens!”
I’ve missed you, James.
mike was calm af, rated himself highly and did the best overall. we love to see it.
They are all showing growth; that’s the point of the badges.
Best overall he blended some biscuits and blow torched some meringue
How did he do the best overall. Jamie made the damned meringue
@@onidamb1247 ok maybe not overall but. It’s the best he’s done in pass it on for ages!
I feel like James was MUCH more generous handing out the badges, and scores, than Ben would have been.
Exaclty my thought! Jaime was the only one who actually made a meringue (okay, Mike pipped it, but it wasn't the piping skills badge was it?) I don't get why Barry got a meringue badge, he melted ice cream ...
For sure, Barry got his badge for turning the mixer off and then badly executing his silly idea.
Oh yeah, I can see Barry not getting the badge if Ben was here. I think James is tired of being “the bad guy” lol.
@@justmemayel4174 well yes becouse they only would need one meringue for a dish. Jaime making the Meringue meant the other 2 couldn't do that either way. Barry decided to do baked Alaska yes, but James then also made him go again after he had that idea. that meant that there wouldn't be a chance for him to use the meringue in his turn anyway becouse he needed to put the icecream in the freezer for his idea to be able to work. so what way could he use the meringue on his turn?
@@starryskies9655 I think part of it is that Jamie went in essentially throwing the others under the bus by trying to do the badge part even though he knew as did James that he could have been doing other stuff that would have resulted in a better overall dish by either baking a tart case, getting something chilled, or making a filling that needed to cool for the entire time. If you look at it like that giving just him the leg up would have been rewarding bad behavior.
Jamie and Mike definitely deserve the badge because let's be honest. Whether that bowl had been mixing for 1 minute or 10, Barry would have still turned it off.
Cos it's not a hob
I am pretty sure Mike totally forgot about the meringue still whipping once he started the base, at least Barry stopped it then tasted it
@@toddyoung913 Mike checked it at 5:51, when he was almost done with his time, but it was still warm.
@@CircleThinker I read 'knob' instead of job 😏🤓
He literally checked nothing and just turned it off. He had no idea if Jamie or Mike had made it
Jamie - Makes Meringue, get pre made pastry and provides options for different fruity fillings for the tart
Mike - Makes a biscuit base to level up the tart theme, agrees on the lime/ginger flavour, checks on the Meringue, gets the tart cases out so they're ready for Barry
Barry - Flips the table, uses a pre made ice cream, ignores the theme, changes it to something much more complicated
he likes to live on the edge
I don't even know if I'd call it "more complicated" - initially they wanted to go for a fruity pie, where they could experiment with flavors and food pairings of a filling, as well as with handmade crust. Instead - they ended up with Baked Alaska inside of which was premade ice cream. The hardest part there was to put a meringue nicely and not burn it. I know they were fighting for the badge, but I was hoping for something much more ambitious :/
@@Der_Eiermensh Agreed. I can understand not being confident in making a curd/custard, but a basic fruit pie filling is just sugar, cornstarch, & maybe a bit of lemon, so there was no need to change the whole dish. A baked alaska does look really impressive, but it's extremely simple to make once you've got the meringue. Also, like Mike said, you need the ice cream to be in the fridge for a few hours before assembly so it stays solid in the oven/under the blowtorch.
I've been very impressed with Jamie throughout these "normals edition" challenges. His execution may not be "chef" level, but he's clearly succeeded in integrating small tips and tricks into his cooking habits.
I completely agree with you!
I also think he has grown the most. He is a comic relief, in a way, and early on that was all he did. Now he can really cook!
Yes, I definitely get the impression the Jamie is the one who has taken what he's learned at work and brought it home the most!
James being so defensive about not being a normal “I’m not a normal” is brilliant
me thinks the chef doth protest too much...
It's hard work to become a professional chef you know 😅
He's "Abby-normal"
Should be on a shirt js
Janice addressed the normals, and he responded. So yes he was in the right to point it out, he acted out if instinct and put himself there.
Barry fully understanding what they meant him to do, but deciding to go in a completely different direction is the most Barry thing ever.
James narrating the normals cooking is my new favourite thing. Please sorted make this a new series and do it again, sassy but supportive narrater James is amazing.
but make Ben be the badge judge
Maybe instead of a Janice, we need a Jamice.
James sounds genuinely surprised when he says "They DO know how to make a meringue!" It almost feels like he didn't trust any of them 😂
Poor James. They are putting him in such a position of power and our poor boy is trying to balance honesty and being nice.
I felt like he was way nicer with the badges than Ebbers usually is
@@RStarrzky Yeah, I don't think Ebbers would have given Barry a Meringue badge, since Barry didn't really do anything with the meringue.
@@LemurDreamer87 There wasn't really much he could do tho.
@@GmodGTX Fair enough.
@@RStarrzky Ebbers jokes combined with an innocent face puts him ahead enough that he can afford to be harsh and remain popular anyway
"WHERE'S THE DISH?!" gets me every time, it is the heart of the intro, just like the missing raspberry on the cake in Bake Off intro
Yeah the intro just wouldn't be the same without that line from James
Barry pats flour on the fridge.
James: “No. No. No. Would you blame me if I failed him just based on that?”
Me: No, James I wouldn’t
but I wouldn't have given him a badge...
I agree, I wouldn't blame him either
@@veanell Yes! Exactly!
Honestly, I'm ok with little things like that. They should know to check oven/fridge/freezer, but in the pressure of the time, it's easy to miss, so I think that's ok. I would however fail it for basically making a dish that's just a fancy scoop of pre-made ice cream.
Knowing that Ben and James apparently clean the kitchen. Id be furious in his shoes
The look on Barry’s face when James rates Mike an 8 after telling Barry he sucked but he didn’t wanna offend him is priceless haha
I literally came to the comments to look for people talking about Barry's face after Mike got rated
Poor Barry. 😏🤓
Barry clearly had in his head “Baked Alaska”, regardless of what had already been done or what was in front of him in the kitchen. He’s like the opposite of a team player 😅
Mike needs more recognition, the amount of times he’s last and he has to turned nothing into a dish is spectacular
He is definitely the master of clutch plays
I totally agree! There should be a "fixed it" badge.
What? How on earth did he get an 8 for that? Jamie had done, like all the work.
Mike is the king of “Hail Marys”. The Cincinnati Bengals need to recruit him (and I can say that as the Bengals are my hometown team) and hopefully win a game or two 😂
@@Montyh7 Mike got an 8 because he did allow the meringue to cook and later did the piping (on melting ice cream).
Barry should not have gotten a badge, he did nothing with the merignue beyond turning off the mixer. Jamie made a great meringue, and mike knew what he was doing enough to keep checking the temperature, plus the piping and torching at the end.
Yeah all Barry did was ignore all the previous work, and grab pre-made ice-cream to turn the dish into something that was literally impossible to finish properly in the time they had.
The baked Alaska reveal-
Barry: 😃
Mike and Jamie: 🙃
Think it was more of a lightly toasted Alaska but yeah they were not impressed.
@@masons.495 A lightly toasted Alaska with a filling of kiwi milkshake soup.
Poor Jamie. I genuinely think this is the best he’s ever done in a pass it on
It would be great to see you guys do a kitchen gadget review of old school, retro 1930s kitchen tools. As always, thanks for spreading awesomeness!
That's an AWESOME idea!!
I think this is some of the best performances I’ve seen from Jamie and Mike in a pass it on. Nice job guys.
Yes I agree, they deserved their badges!
Barry: So I was thinking we've got everything to make ourselves a Baked Alaska.
James: 🤦
Us: 🤦
Accurate!
Sometimes Barry annoys me. I was really looking forward to the original concept because we haven't seen it and then Barry's pea brain comes along 🙄
@@Alex632 I agree
@@Alex632 his explanation is he didn’t know how to make a curd
That was his justification for changing the entire dish and do something he wanted to do
@@zzskyninjazz1821 - That alone should've disqualified him from the badge. He didn't know how to make the meringue dish the others were going for, and then changed it to a meringue dish that was literally impossible to finish properly in time. And on top of that used pre-made ice-cream to do it.
1. Jamie
2. Mike

4. Editor
5. Camera guy
6. Janice
7. Phoebe the spider who lives in the storage closet.
8. Just cause I like him Barry
Mike being saltier than the Dead Sea is what we are all here for.
I look forward to the opening intro to these episodes. From Barry’s “ that’s annoying.” Jamie’s “that’s looks terrible, I’m hiding these.” to Mike’s “this should be really obvious.” However, most of all, my favorite one is, Jame’s “ What’s going on here? WHERE’S. The. Dish????”
I can't say Barry earned the badge. I mean he didn't have much opportunity, but they could allow a makeup opportunity in future.
He left it alone, thereby earning one by not screwing it up.
I wouldn't say any of them except Jaime earned the badge since after he did the part of actually making it, the other two just had to leave it alone. Not a fault on either of their parts, just a consequence of the theme & format.
@@SeraphimCramer coinflip for Mike, he identified the needs and applied and finished it. Barry turned off a mixer.
@@jeremyO9F911O2 Yeah, but the results would've been the same if he'd just completely ignored it. The actual tricky part about making a meringue is everything Jaime did.
@@SeraphimCramer yeah, Jamie kind of screwed the other 2 over. There wasnt much they could do at that point. But Mike showed he has knowledge on how long a meringue should whip for (temperature of the bowl), and unless it was cut, Barry just turned off the mixer without explaining if he actually knew if it was ready or not. In the end they all the got badge, an excellent meringue was made and now im really hungry haha
Mike’s face when realizing Barry meant for it to be a baked Alaska is me whenever life really gets me down
“I don’t want to speculate, but this has Barry Taylor written all (beep) over it.” - Michael Brian Huttlestone, 2021.
If only you had gone more times than Barry, but then that’s Huttlestorm times 2.
Loving the energy James is bringing to this, his little viewing corner, his casual stance, the coffee. He's so beautiful.
Pass it on is my favorite however I think James needs to participate in the pokerface challenge since he missed the other two. It's only fair.
YES!!!!
I second this idea. Get to it sorted
Jamie was incredible in this but Barry literally seems to purposefully try and mess the others up. Defeats the object or trying to pass 😂
Mike deserves a 10 for plating a dish he didnt know was coming haha
Barry: "i have an idea"
(memories of barry's other "idea" - Cloud eggs)
And the blowtorch pepper
Mike: "Makes it obvious what barry has to do"
Barry: "Understands but changes it anyways"
Barry: I'm going to leave arrows so they know what they need to do
Me: "facepalms"
Exactly!
Pineapple?
@@mikesvendsen7333 I love that they both went "pineapple?" Before checking the fridge...classic
Because Barry would be using the pineapple.
3:23 I love when they point out the uses for excess ingredients
Just love the "oh dear oh dear" to start these. Sums it up perfectly.
How did Barry get a badge and a 6 score? He literally didn't make anything! He smushed James pre-made ice cream in a pot and then poured flour everywhere
Remember when we all kicked off when Mike didn’t get his badge against Ben? I might be on the side of Barry’s meringue badge being revoked... 🤣
@@jenw6439 lmao same. I was super hacked off about the Mike situation
I think it all came down to James not wanting to upset Barry...You can clearly tell he was already getting upset at the fact that he got (Well deserved IMO) 6 instead of the 8 he rated himself... James was trying his best to be nice, you could really tell he really wanted to rate him lower but didn't want to be mean or be the bad guy in this situation.
Barry literally did nothing to the Meringue other than turn it off, which honestly I think was more due to luck than anything, and he didn't even show any knowledge about the meringue like Mike did (knowing to check the bowl's warmth, and what kind of Meringue it was, ect). So IMHO, he really didn't "deserve" to win the badge, and giving them out to everyone like a participation award, kind ruins the whole point of the badge contest to begin with.
@@Aevilbeast and what was barry to do to earn a badge
@@dominicbeltz9057 I mean, I know I'm 4 months late but he could have vocalized that he knew what kind of meringue they were making, he could have justified why he was shutting it off(this swiss meringue is cool enough now, let's shut that off)
Barry definitely did an Ebbers. It was not fish pie, but he literally changed the meal in the middle of the challenge. Thanks god Jamie was so selfish that he made the meringue already, otherwise they would have been screwed.
True, but to be fair, Ben made fish pie because he didn't think there was time to cook the chicken (yes, I know he was wrong) and decided that he didn't want to kill his friends and coworkers... and, yes, he wanted fish pie. Not quite the same as Barry not making a tart.
Completely true!
@@ajalfano also true, I agree!
Changing puff pastry crust of a meringue pie into biscuit base like cheesecake is OK when Mike does it
Changing cheesecake idea into baked alaska is not OK when Barry does it
Using already made biscuits or puff pastry for making the pie is OK, if Mike and Jamie does it
Using already made ice cream is not OK when Barry does it
Not doing anything to an already perfect meringue is also a bad thing appearantly.
@@gorkemkavak1965 Well, the difference is Mike essentially went "this is a great idea - I'm going to change one element of it just a little", whereas Barry went "HAH, screw you guys and all your hard work, I don't wanna!". He also never really did anything to the meringue (aside from stopping the machine the instant he came into the kitchen), so whether he deserved a badge specifically for meringue based on his performance in this video is... questionable at best.
James feels like Ben's cool substitute teacher here. Love it!

Jamie does deserve a higher note, but I would have given Barry a 3
Im sure the team might be tired of hearing it, and I'm not taking away from anyone else since everyone is wonderful, but DAM it's nice to have James back on set. He was really the person I originally subscribed for before starting to enjoy everyone else.
Interesting, he always seemed like a background character to me. (beloved nonetheless)
He and mike ( and he & Janice) are the main reason I watch.

We need a banana themed Pass It On
I like the simplicity of the newer "egg-cracking" intro but the chaos of the Pass It On challenge opening never fails to put a smile on my face!
A 6 was very generous from James. My rating for Barry would have been a firm kick to the gonads/10.
I'm just here for Mike's shocked/adoring look at James when he gets rated the highest.
*Barry sets fire to the kitchen*
James: Here's a kiwi slicing badge Barry, good work.
Pass It On is my favorite! So happy there is a new one of these.
It's our favourite to watch, worst to be a part of!! J
@Anayira Nwolkmar yay! What is it that makes you love them so much?
I love that I get to LOL about all the carnage that ensues in the kitchen, but also the creativity of the challenge. And the way that some dishes get salvaged.
I needed that attitude earlier this week when I misread teaspoons for tablespoons in a recipe. Decided I was going to fully commit. Luckily ended up with okay dinner in the end. 😂
@@SortedFood haha. I can imagine that. I have done a Mystery Box Challenge in the past with friends. But I don’t think I could ever commit to Pass It On. The stress of not having anything remotely edible in the end would kill me. 😂
I feel like him having time off during lockdown gave a kinder, gentler James. 😅
Credit to Jamie, one of his most impressive performances to date... He's learning 🤣
Except he separated eggs into a mug with day old coffee in it. I guess learning is relative...

I'M SO HAPPY THEY'RE BRINGING BACK THE PASS IT ON REACTION VIDEOS
I feel like watching the boys react to each other's ideas and mistakes makes it 10x funnier!
Jamie: well thought out steps and good preparation of the meringue
Mike : proper cooling of the meringue, as well as switching from a tart to pastry which is a great idea
Barry " I am going to make a baked alaskan in 40 minutes" Taylor : let's cut some ice creams and put it in the freezer and hope it sets in time
😅😅😅😅

Barry without fail seems to always go in see what’s going on and completely change the idea 😂
Giving them all a meringue badge is a ssstttrrreeetttccchhh
Gonna be real, I don't think I would've given Barry the badge, he didn't interact with the meringue at all, and nor did he comment on anything to do with it other than saying "that's good meringue"
Yes!! Love bringing back the reaction videos!!! Barry looked crushed. He always has big aspirations, he just needs to try it in a non timed setting
James was too nice with the scores 😂
Jamie: makes the meringue - badge!
Mike: pipes and blowtorches it like a pro - badge!
Barry: turns off the mixer - badge?
So Barry in twenty minutes...
Defrosted some ice cream and turned off the mixer?
If we're being... charitable, it's assumed he demonstrated he did *know* how to do the meringue, he just didn't have to because Jamie covered that base. And he did choose the direction (By ignoring everyone else's, and then not doing a whole bunch towards it despite getting a 20 minute time but... semantics).
So, I guess the badge is fair, and James admitted the 6 was mostly not to make him feel bad.
I love watching Mike listening to Janice like he has no idea what she's going to say.
I don't think he does. I'm pretty sure Janice's lines are recorded after the pass-it-on. They are being talked to by one of the producers during the episode, and Janice is dubbed over.
“Where’s...the dish?” is ICONIC.
sometimes people in my life do a barry and i wish i could tell them that they are doing a barry but i cant because they wouldnt understand and its is quite upsetting but then i come on here and i see the actual barry do a barry and i just know that literally everyone in the comments knows what doing a barry is and all of a sudden i feel content

Loved this one but I think James should have given Mike a blow torch badge too. That was some brilliant torching Mike
Mike's "*Sigh* Yeah..." on hearing Barry's score was the most real thing I've heard in a while. 🤣
Going "I don't want to do this thing that is already in the works, I want to do X" is SUCH a Barry Taylor move!
James was waay too generous to Barry. He should be able to identify that everything would have been great if Barry had been a team player.
Jaime 8, Mike 8, Barry 2
The issue is Jamie made the meringue at the very beginning giving the others nothing to do besides make sure it's not over whipped and pipe it. (Both very simple things to do.) I do agree that Barry shouldn't of gotten a badge for what he did, but his performance wasn't all that bad...
Totally agree. And Barry should know about other pie fillings besides a curd. Mixed berries in a jam or coulis would have been a perfectly fine filling.

I feel that Jamie definitely proved he knew how to make a swiss meringue and Mike demonstrated he knew as well by checking the bowl and then leaving it going. Barry didn't check the bowl, he just figured it was probably going long enough and took it off the beater.
I don't think this relay format works for badges like these as its mainly on 1 person not to mess up and doesn't show each 'normal' attempting the badge. Happy you tried the idea though!
