Great stuff. Definitely don't do Crisis Core until after you've experienced the entire story of the base game (whether it's by doing OG or finishing the third remake). It casually spoils every massive climactic plot point/twist. You kind of touched on it, but to explicitly put it together: Mistrust aside, the specific reason why Barrett was such a dick to Cloud at the beginning of the game was due to the fact that Cloud cares 0% and Barrett cares 200% about what to him is the most important thing imaginable. It's basically absolute bleeding heart passion being extremely triggered/annoyed by total ambivalence. They really nailed Cloud's character in this game. The spinoffs mischaracterize him as a bland emo, but he was always supposed to be a dork who's so insecure about himself that he desperately tries to pass himself off as a cool-guy (and every other character sees right through the facade-- especially Aerith). It's more like a clever subversion/analysis of the cool guy trope rather than just another boring example of it, IMO.
This playthrough was my first time seeing someone play through FF7R without knowing what happens in FF7 and it really brings a new kind of enjoyment in watching. Looking forward to the DLC and Rebirth.

Trivia: The first third of the One Winged Angel ~ Rebirth features sections of the original One Winged Angel all jumbled up, to reflect Sephiroth's desire to mess up the original timeline and defy his fate (as you don't actually fight him at this stage in the original timeline). When his wing appears and the second third of the theme starts, he says "Oh the memories", seemingly breaking the 4th wall to hint that the sections of the One Winged Angel theme are now in the original and familiar sequence.
ok so 1:20:55 i think i figured it out it caused me confusion and i didnt notice until this moment that it looks like you were waiting to get an atb bar before using limit. so i think you were operating under the assumption that limits cost atb but they actually dont. forgive me if i assumed wrong and u knew this already lol also YAAAAY congrats ms dish :))) this series has been such a joy to watch as someone who was practically in the same boat as you. so unfortunate about the tifa glitch, one of my biggest gripes about this game is how that penultimate fight is so unforgiving if u have to restart for whatever reason. alas it was no problem for you and the evil has been defeated ^_^ cant wait to see you go through the rest of the unknown journey :3
Well that was a wild and wacky finale, made for some great viewing. Congrats Dish, you nailed your first FF! But holy cow, you must have an aversion towards dealing big damage or something with the way you kept avoiding Braver.

As a viewer i love how much you resonate with these types of stories and games you are my favorite ff7 gamer miss dish Talking about other longform story centric rpg’s, I absolutely adore Persona 4 and 3. They have a lot going for them that you would love for the same reason as FF7, but are certainly a much bigger time investment and something that would probably take 20 individual streams to see through🫡
Another longform story centric rpg would be the Trails series. Much like how FF7's remake is a trilogy, Trails is split into several arcs of multiple games (so the first 3 games are the Sky trilogy, the next two games are a Crossbell duology, etc.) Amazing series. There's also Atelier which is split up into trilogies, but is a lot more character driven and fairly light on narrative.
It's been an absolute joy to experience FF7R the whole way through with you! I had been meaning to play it myself for years and you starting it finally gave me the push to start also. Loved seeing your reactions to the Honeybee Inn in particular LMAO But what a journey this game was! The depth and care they gave to each character made it so easy to get lost in this game. Actually can't wait to play through the DLC and Rebirth now

I might be in the minority saying this, but personally I think Crisis Core is a valid choice to try after Yuffie's DLC and before Rebirth if you want to know about Zack. In my personal opinion I think knowing what happens in CC and in Zack's story only enhances your experience of Rebirth in many ways and does not really take away too much in terms of OG spoilers. However I understand if you would rather not jump into that!
right like it's totally up to ms dish but i was gonna say i feel the same as you that i actually think it's a good idea to play CC before rebirth spoilers: . . . . . now to be fair i havent played it myself but from my understanding all what CC shows is the truth of what happened in nibelheim back then as well as cloud's backstory and character, right? i feel like thats not the worst thing to have revealed early but idk. maybe my experience is clouding my judgement but i feel like if i played rebirth without knowing that stuff, all the zack scenes would feel so ???!, and i feel like thats why they even released the remaster so that people could understand who he is from that game instead of just from rebirth. either way i dont think it's a big deal she's gonna have a great time regardless

Which is why in my opinion it does not really spoil much, since that plot point is already heavily alluded to at the end of Remake in chapter 17 and even in Rebirth as early as the end of chapter 1! But yes it’s as you said, as much as I’d love for her to experience Zack before Rebirth, it will still be an enjoyable experience regardless if she plays CC beforehand or not :)

I think you should play Crisis Core before going into Rebirth. There’s a reason why the devs remade Crisis Core before the 2nd part’s release. It is part of the compilation. It is important to the story. It will boost your understanding of Remake and then Rebirth as well. It won’t ruin any surprises I tell you, as I have played both the OG and Crisis core before diving into Remake and Rebith. It’ll give you a better understanding why and how Zack is integral to the story (which a lot of people hate beacuse of shipping). Idk why others are saying there are mischaraterization in the characters in Crisis Corr when they are not. The game gives you backstories of how these characters are prior to certain events. I don’t think characters written by the devs are mischaracterized by the devs themselves. I mean it’s their story to tell.
Yes, I’ve heard a lot of good arguments for playing crisis core before rebirth lately. Im still a bit torn on it. I wonder if it’s too late to start crisis core considering I’ve started rebirth. I see the main story is only about 17 hours
Ive seen so many playthroughs and your Tifa bug was the first time I saw a really big bug in this game. XD Also if you even want to try another Final Fantasy, give FFXV a try. It has the cozy adventure feeling that I feel FFXVI was lacking so much. FFVII is a mix of cozy and crazy crack moments 🤣 I respect the devs took the comedy to another level in Remake.
I was there for peak! I died laughing when the graphics just died and you tried to play through it. Not sure if it was determination or stubbornness but I respect the effort 🫡 Can’t wait to see you play the DLC and eventually Rebirth!

watching some new player enjoying ff7 is made me happy, please dont get trapped into shipping, and just play the game and follow the story i watch some other streamer who likes aerith suddenly hates her, just to please / satisfy their viewer who is mostly tifa fans, watching streamer go 180 degree on their opinion is just sad i hope you stay true to your opinion and dont get dragged / changed based on how your viewer suggest you should do (which most ff7 streamer do)
Late to the party but I'm so happy that my first approach to ffvii (and all of final fantasy actually) is through ms dish, so excited to catch up with intergrade and rebirth now 🤍🤍
