Thank you ma'am for the lecture. But I am a little confused with the definition of the facies, after reading it for multiple sources. Can we consider facies similar to an ID card, that can define a rock unit or group of rock units. Further, the ID card consists of characters like grain size, mineralogy, etc. Thus, sedimentary facies refer to the sum of characteristics of a sedimentary rock unit/group of rock units. These characteristics include grain size, composition, etc.
You may feel confused, but your analogy of an ID card works very well. I think you have the basic idea. Once you start applying it, you'll see how the idea is useful, and I suspect that you will gain more confidence in your understanding.
