    I’ve been using my mp1s happily for years. I admire the depth and precision of your tests! A week ago I got guy to “fix” the input after the metal bit where you input the cable broke. He changed it so the cable is permanent. I just got back to the city I live in and noticed everything is in mono now. Do you think it’ll be difficult to fix so the switch works again? I just saw him working on the left headphone so assumed he wouldn’t be messing with the stereo field. I’m living in a small town in the north of Argentina, not a lot of options for fixing my problem. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

    I think the Mixcubes mode is really for referencing as you are producing and mixing songs, to get a better idea of where your midrange and balance is- so if you’re not hearing much difference in the tracks you’re referencing, it’s because they are already mixed and mastered professionally and should therefore translate closely in stereo mode- it’s only going to reveal flaws in your production /mix/master

  • @DagToreLarsen
    @DagToreLarsen 10 месяцев назад +1

    Listen dude. This head phones is NOT audiophile headphones. They are headphones for mixing and mastering engineers to check their OWN mixes for mistakes and faults in the midrange area of the mix.
    The reason it cuts off the bass and treble, is because it will make it easier to focus on the midrange, as the bass and the treble would distract from the mixing process of correcting the mid frequencies. Yes, when using these headphones, you should be in front of a mixing desk or at least in front of a DAW using the equalizer adjusting the high and low mid bands on your recorded tracks, like vocal, bass, drums etc.
    The reason there is no difference in what you are listening to is because you are listening to professionally mixed and mastered songs where it already has been mixed and mastered to perfection. Probably using Yamaha NS10s or Mixcube. No serious pro record labels will release mixes with mistakes! So, expecting to find mistakes in commercial released tracks..... seems highly unreasonable, as is not what these headphones are intended for. It is to make sure you can hear YOUR OWN mistakes and that YOUR mixes translate correctly.
    Unless you are a mixing engineer, these headphones are not really for you.

    These are pretty heavy headphones. First day was really uncomfortable. Second day I wore these with tighter clamping than what I'm used to. Much better. I'm currently having these driven from an OLD headphone amp with a single 12AX7 tube and BurrBrown dac. I can very easily tell a difference between the three settings. I have an O2/ODAC on the way. I'm going to use these for a little while before going back to the DT990 600ohm. I'm wondering what these headphones will feel like with Brainwavz pads. Comfort so far is the biggest detractor I have with these headphones.

    What a great review! It sounds like R2D2's grandson has created his first video review! And wow! What a complete review it is! He even tears off the earcup ... then later explains how hard it is to get them back on! You won't see THAT in another review! My only suggestion would be to take a shot of whiskey before ripping your next movie! It sounds like you are over-enunciating! Unless of course you are from the planet Zargot (in which case you're slurring horrendously). Seriously, R2D4, a tiny bit of personality would go a long way!! Smile maybe (page 16 in the training manual)? -- You are the first to TRULY tackle the "S-and-C-sound-the-same" issue. Thank you for that. So many people have simply dissed these phones and returned them thinking they were broken. It's impressive how quick you are to take a wrench to these! FUN! -- This, while sounding robot-sourced, is by far the most thorough review I've ever seen, and it's for a headphone, a device you can't actually play in our ears! Magical! I will therefore enable the RUclips™ "auto inform" functionality ... in other words, you got a new human subscriber! And damn, homey, keep it up!

    I have notice the mp1 mixcube mode effect massivly depends on the source and amp. But it does not push the mids forward I notice the mid bass hump dissapears the extension up top dissapears along with a sharper sub roll off but still not dramatic. I've owned these since release and although not my favourite can I can never bring myself to sell it. Its such a unique sound and you can really hear that sub acucuratly. My mp1 i would not say is neutral like yourself but very natural bass focused or warm and could do with more extension up top but still love it (off to get hearing re tested as I did not find it overly siblant).
    As a tool it makes you work harder then ever before and delivers great results especially when mixing bass frequencies. You can pick these up in the UK second hand so cheap like 100 dollars
    Great review pal.

      They sound pretty much the same to me. I think Sennheiser’s goal was to make the 650 easier to power, hence the 660s. If you want to use a headphone with any affordable amp, then the 660s makes sense. Its typically more expensive than the 650 or 6xx so that might be a factor as well.

      @No Theme Reviews would you then spread the right information, especially about DT 1990?

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  3 года назад +4

      Oh I spent a great deal of time on the 1990 and 1770 last year. Both are way overpriced, but the 1770 is one of the worst headphones I’ve heard. I sold it as soon as I could. Months later people started to complain about the same things I had, then Drop released the 177x, which all but conceded Beyer had screwed up with the 1770.
      The 1990 has bass distortion at high volume-and I kept pointing that out. I think the 1990’s treble is a bit bright but nothing like the 990.

    • @samgh7166
      @samgh7166 3 года назад

      @@NoThemeReviews thanks for your response. I was also disappointed after getting a dt 1990. It is very well built and looks very nice, IMO, but that's it.

    • @FunFreakeyy
      @FunFreakeyy 3 года назад

      @@NoThemeReviews I only have the 990 Pros as a reference. You said the Planar has a sub-bass roll off, would you say the beyers have less roll off? And in comparison to the 990 or 1990 which you said distorted, is the Planar not distorting? I'm only wondering because I hear a lot of dub and electronic music which has a lot off (sub)bass and never had the feeling of distortion, only at sound levels where it gets generally unpleasent to hear. I really like the sound signature of my 990s, especially the bass, but would prefer less harsh highs. So what you said about the Planar sounds good, but maybe I have a completely false impression.
