I am a 70-year-old woman who never watched a WNBA game before this year. I started watching after catching Caitlyn Clark on the news towards the end of the college basketball season. Since then, my 67-year-old sister and I have been watching the Fever religiously. I can appreciate a good athlete skills. Obviously, I am a white woman from the Midwest. I don’t know what it was like to grow up black. I don’t know, other than what I have learned throughout the years, of the challenges of trying to find a place where you belong, where you were accepted in spite of your skin color or where you came from. I don’t know how good of a player you were when you played in the WNBA. I found out that you were the first one to be signed to the WNBA, you were a three-time MVP for the WNBA and were named as one of the top 15 players of all time at the 2011 WNBA All Star game. You have quite a legacy that you have built. It seems to me that you are feeling angry over the attention that Caitlyn Clark has received as a rookie in the WNBA. Having a history of not being accepted as you tried to be successful as a black youth, are you not giving the same treatment to Caitlyn Clark? She is helping to bring attention and fans to the league. It does not have to be a win-lose scenario. It should be a win-win situation for all members of the WNBA. No one expects more than giving credit, where credit is due. As an athlete, you are smart enough to see a good player. I ask you to look within yourself, look back on some of the same nonacceptable treatment you received as a woman of color, that Caitlyn Clark is receiving from few, as a white girl from the Midwest. If you continue doubling down, it will leave a footnote on your legacy. As a leader, it comes with responsibility. This has become bigger than just about you. It is about the game. If you are that leader, lead.

The Mercury didn't respect any of the Sky players on the wing. They double and triple teamed Reese and the other post players. Mabry was much more than just a three point threat she was respected by every team except Minnesota
