Husqvarna EPOS Automowers Have Improved Signal Quality! And They Can Stripe! (450EPOS & 550EPOS)

- Robotic mowers with no boundary wires have been a popular topic for years and Husqvarna offered a wireless option in their 550 EPOS and 550H EPOS models of Automowers back in 2021. The EPOS models of Automowers use GPS satellites to define their working area instead of boundary wires and on paper it was a great idea, but the early models had their limitations mostly due to GPS signal being blocked by structures and large plants. But in early 2023 Husqvarna issued a software update for existing 550 EPOS and 550H EPOS models that would improve signal transmuting AND gave the EPOS mowers systematic mowing capability. This version of software is also installed in the new 450X EPOS, 450XH EPOS, models as well as new 550 EPOS and 550H EPOS models being shipped out by Husqvarna. In this video you can see that this 550H EPOS Automower has no problem mowing around the back side of this building despite the reference station not being mounted higher than the building's roof. And it's easy to see where this 550H EPOS mower has been mowing at thanks to the bold stripes it has laid in the grass.

I just got the 450xh epos the other day and am working on a full residential review of the mower setup and everything. So far it’s incredible because I have no more wire breaks constantly. Yay

So it seems your opinion has changed from the time you did the white board and basically said EPOS isn't really that great for residential? Is that mainly due to this software update recently or have they also increased the power from the reference station also. Previously it seemed like if it lost communication with the satelite or the reference station it would just stop but i could be misunderstanding what you explained in that video.
They do work a bit better around buildings since the update. But trees are still an issue. We installed a few already this season that are now losing satellite signal under trees now that they have more leaves on them. We also tried one again at a commercial site in Philadelphia where they would not work 2 years ago. The EPOS mower worked for like 5 minutes in one area and then lost signal again. For the extended range on the EPOS, does that require firmware update on the reference stations or just the mowers?
It's a good idea to update both the mower and the reference station. But the systematic mowing can be achieved by updating the mower
That’s very cool. They are horribly expensive though. I wish they could retrofit older mowers.

Did not see the EPOS mowers on your site. Very interested. Think it is time to retire my 2 450X and go the 550 EPOS.
