I love the way that on the steps when he was unsure you just took all the time he needed to teach him, no whips and no massive kicks in the belly. Just gentle persuasion, so nice to see! Too many riders now whip and kick their horses into doing something they are scared or uncomfortable with! So encouraging to see it done in a gentle way!:)
YEAAH MURPHY!!! You guys both looked AMAZING!!!! Don't doubt yourself Gemma, just looks at how far you've both come and all the wonders you have accomplished. Amazing.
I rode a haflinger gelding who had been ridden to absolute rock solid personality mouth and sides. You couldn't get that lug to move an inch when I started, he'd been so hard-ridden by side-thumping children. Took me about a year of lessons and a half lease on that sweetheart that he started to enjoy work, he was fit, he was SO much softer, I rode him English and Western doing barrels and jumping along with drill team thrown in. Took me 2 years to get him to almost showable standards before I left that farm...learned that it tok less than a month for him to return to that hard-sided immovable lump. I was so mad at the barn owner after that....she's been a thorn in my side ever since I started working for her but I miss that horse.
the point of that was, eventually he started wanting to go over the low jumps we did for lessons. I'd drop the reins and throw my hands out and he'd line up and hit it without any urging...
i personaly think that your the best rider!! i dont know why :/ you just ride so stably and so confident. you alwayd get perfect distance and much much more wonderful things! i just love how you ride!
Gotta love Lauren's After Earth reference LOL. Btw, I don't think I've seen anybody comment this yet, but I love how you always remember to praise Murphy. I watch a lot of riders if it be at a competition or just schooling have a steller round, course, etc. and not even acknowledge their horses. One of my bigger pet peeves. But I'm happy to see you always telling Murphy he's a good boy or give him a good pat :) Yet another reason to admire you haha
lol Murphy when he jumps into the water at 2:09 he's like "weeeeeeeeeeeeee i'm going to leap like a deer!" haha he is so funny! :) He's doing REALLY well for not doing XC in a year . Man my mare would be like "no no no no no" :D keep up the great work!
Gemma what do roundings do? I've seen them but I'm not sure of the purpose? I only rode in plain sam fled so I don't really know. About stiff attached to Pelhams and gags and stuff ;)
A pelham needs 2reins on it. So you use roundings so u can ride with 1rein as riding with two is tricky. They don't add any other pressure on the bit. It is just easier to rude with 1
Omg you and Murphy are so perfect together! Hey I was wondering do you like your body protector? I'm starting cross country soon so I need to buy one, and yours was one that I was looking at so what do you think of it or do you recommend any other brands? Thanks!
That's Linger in these your jumps that did not even notice the pink saddle pad: D You did not think about it to put it wraps? Ps. Nicely would look like: D
you look really good and well done dont worry about how u look or what others think of u it is ur horse and you know u did the right thing ;) xx ps you look great and you are right atleast you are both safe x
ok gemma i always see how murphy is ALWAYS on the right lead going over a jump, but my horse is always on the WRONG lead going over the jump!! how do i change that? because he always hits it and it falls over!
I love Murphy he looks like one of my old horses Tonto and you Stirrup's look short I no it was cross country but I don't have mine as short as that and well done
