    I loved the methodology. I honestly thought I was the only one. I can't sleep sometimes because my designs bother me on paper, and I move them around my flip chart at 4am. I loved this episode so much I'm watching again. Picking up my shrubs and trees on Wednesday. I've got a bare grass, clay soil, south westerly and windy in Devon. Only moved in last September and agonised for months over this 20m x 35m bare space every day. Thanks for shouting about cornus kousa - this will be spectacular in both yours and my garden. I've got pond planning after all my hedging and structures done. Can't think about much else. Fabulous advice.

      So funny to hear that, I too have sleepless nights when I get one of my crazy ideas in my head! Having the channel is great as I can vent my ideas and then someone may tell me something I hadn’t thought of which always leads to a better design and avoids all the pitfalls we used to make when we were new to gardening! Good luck with all plans, I’m sure it will be fantastic!!

    I’m so excited to watch the rest of the videos about this space. I’m currently planning out my backyard and wanted it to be full of trees and shrubs. It happens to be around the same size as the space you’re working on. The tip about cutting out the trees to move them around on the plan was great, I will definitely be doing that.

    Thanks so much for this episode. Having made the wrong choice of trees in the past- Gorgeous Heritage River Birch had very invasive root system and deer peeled the beautiful bark before we could enjoy it, and Regents Scholar tree had beautiful form but dropped messy seed pods and fruit periodically- we have learned a very expensive lesson. Both trees have since been removed. Thorough research is critical when making tree selections. Love your very methodical approach. 👍👏👏

    I am looking forward to seeing them get planted and learning more about them!!!! And your channel is mutually beneficial!! I love seeing what is popular in other parts of the world. And surprisingly, most of the time, it is the same in my area of the US. My zone is too warm for many many of the really great evergreens. But, I still enjoy watching and learning from others. Many years ago, I moved from my home area of a zone 5 to a zone 8b! Lol, that has taken some getting used to hahahaha. I do greatly enjoy your channel. And am thankful that Daniel introduced her audience to you!!

    Great video. Good luck on this new project. Seeing the size of some of the trees, they may need to be staked for one year.

    I have a forest pansy. Love it , reminds me of a glass of expensive red wine . Flowers are often missed as new leaves are the same color. Fall color is lovely and the dark grey bark gives me enjoyment in winter. Tx for your comments re planning ,drawing etc good ideas

    I will say that through the camera, the Strawberry tree seems to be camouflaged against the hedging behind it. I didn't notice it at first until you pointed it out. But I am sure that would probably change in time with some growth & the paths put in and other plant choices to come.

    • @MurphysGarden
      @MurphysGarden  Год назад +1

      Yes, you are right, maybe we need something that contrasts with the hedge, I will look into whether we should switch out for something else. Good point and thanks for pointing this out

    The arbutus will make a bit of a mess with the fruits when they drop but I think you guys will genuinely fall in love with it as a tree they have all year round interest and look like a giant Pieris eventually as tue leaves are similar as are the flowers. Also keep an eye on tue cercis for scale insects mine was attacked and survived but it did affect some stems.

      Thank you for your advice, we will need to bear in mind the fruit fall and make sure it’s not near a path

    Thank you! I really love your videos because they are so full of information. Love the tours too. Just curious, are you wearing a microphone? Sometimes the sound fluctuates quite a bit. Not a big deal because I just adjust the volume but thought I'd mention it. I can't wait to see you plant all of your new trees!

    • @MurphysGarden
      @MurphysGarden  Год назад +1

      Yes, I noticed that when I edited. Not sure what happened, I bought a really good mic recently so don’t know if I hadn’t turned it on properly (most likely user error!) but thank you for the feedback, hopefully the next one will be better!

    I am in Los Angeles and I love my two RedBuds: a Forest Pansy Red Bud and a Flame Thrower Red Bud. I also have a beautiful ginkgo. I also have 75 foot LiquidAmbar, which I hate. While the fall color is glorious, the seed pods with the spikes are a nightmare.

    Beware of the Arbutus. It’s very messy. Those strawberry fruits fall and get stuck in your shoes and make the ground quite slimy.

      My little cutie one wasn’t expensive but then it’s only little. I don’t think the bigger ones were too bad at the nursery, just tried to zoom in on the plant labels on the footage I took but can’t see a price. I will look next time I go, are you in the UK?
