great compilation..the 1984 summer games was amazing, i got to stay up til 3am on my own downstairs to watch the opening ceremony...remember JET PACK MAN.
1972. Feels more like It's a Knockout than the Olympics! Still better than the computer game they chose this year. Only prob is they have 4 years to make a naff one when we host it!
Hi, can i ask if you know what the 2nd piece of music is called in the montage for the Mexico 1968 games, i remember this very well and have always loved it but can't seem to find anything about it,think the BBC used it at the time.
The opening graphics for the 1984 LA Games set alongside the 'Chariots of Fire' theme is fantastic.

1988, 24th Seoul Olympic
That was pretty solid CGI for '84, before the Money For Nothing video (made in the US, like the '82 Channel 4 logo)
Money for Nothing wasn't made in the USA, it was made in London. The animators only just moved to Vancouver and that's how they founded Mainframe.
Superb uploads, Dave - and it shows how baffling the choice of approach the BBC have taken this time around with 'Monkey' really is.
The Theme was Mexico Melody - the full single is on you tube somewhere
5:10 Maybe it would be the first time of Korean alphabet "Hangul" had seen on Western TV.

BBC Coverage of the 1980 Summer Olympic Games used the usual Grandstand theme tune.
I don’t think they could commission a theme when decisions were all over the place as to whether athletes would go or not.
Sorry to correct you, But Amici Forever did the 2004 games
Music for Montreal one of the best as is Chariots of Fire, hope they use it for next years games, Beijing them absolute sh*t

1984. A sweet era.
That BBC ident was certainly on its last legs, though!
For most of the Winter Olympics, until recently, they used the same music as for Ski Sunday, i.e. Pop Looks Bach. :D
The 1968 theme tune sounds like the theme tune to 1986 World Cup coverage
By the way, what are the themes for the Winter Olympics broadcasts?
Until Vancouver 2010, they used the same tune for the Winter Olympics as they used for Ski Sunday, “Pop Looks Bach”.
