This song for me perfectly describes both sides of the feeling. "Never really felt like it was the right time." I can relate to wanting to go but knowing the effect it would have on my family and friends (second half of the song) is part of the reason i dont. Its such a beautifully written song filled with so much feeling
I tried to take my own life in 2008. The thought has passed my mind since then but it always comes back to me not wanting to ruin the lives of others. I wouldn't want anyone to find my body. I'm not suicidal now and haven't been in a very long time despite having plenty of reason to justify it. (Numerous health issues. an extremely difficult life, etc.)
Ren got a call at 3am she call told him Joe was on bridge crying wanted her tell everyone bye for him ren lived like 10 minutes from the bridge he knew he could run it in 5 minutes he got there 2 minutes to late
He was calling Joe's phone the whole time, and it kept ringing, and then about 2 minutes away, it went from ringing to out of service. He basically heard the moment his buddy hit the water.
Ren being so vulnerable and unafraid of tackling tough issues in his art is helping us all talk about things we don’t talk about enough. He even made the chorus so damn catching that we’re not only talking about suicide but singing it 😅 And then the second part hits… Ren wrote it more recently after his interview with Knox and it really completes the piece. And makes it absolutely heart breaking 😢 So fucking raw! He has explained that he recorded it bit by bit as he wrote it which is why the emotions are pouring out along with the lyrics. Such beautiful and touching vulnerability 🖤🐰🕳️
Ren is sick from lime disease. And was misdiagnosis for over 5 years and he learn it was lime disease. So he went through some hell. He just got treatment in Canada for Stem cell treatment whiched safed his life. I believe he is now back in the UK. Its about him and his best friend. Him and Joe were best friends since they were 9 years old. It's true. He got the call to late. I have been watching his new chapters and he truly open up and tell his life. Check it out.
Since you now reacted to this one, and it was amazing, you have to check out the track, "For Joe". That is the name of his friend that jumped. If you check the comments on the Suicide video, there should be a comment from Ren with the story of what happened. Thanks for the reaction!
the first 2 verses were his own thoughts and the 3rd verse he added on after doing his interview with knox hill were he opened up about his friend Joe. wonderful reactions mate! the next one would have to be for Joe. Beautiful reaction!
Beautiful reaction and so cool to offer help any time. I just found you as a #Renegade and have trawled/am trawling through all your Ren reactions! Peace n love, Pippa
Great reactions! I first found Ren around 4 year ago. First song I saw was wade in the water by the big push. I’d love to see you react to that! It’s still outstanding to me. Also Nina Simone was one of my idols growing up. ☺️🖤
I really enjoyed your commentary here, especially in the first part of the song (where it somehow often feels like reactors aren't connecting to the lyrics, not sure why). 1) The animation is all AI-generated. 2) From here, if you wanna follow the "Joe saga," head back in time to baby Ren's stuff and listen to the "Freckled Angels" song - written in the immediate aftermath of Joe's death, he played it at the funeral. 3) After "Freckled Angels" jump forward in time and do "For Joe" which is Ren taking bits and pieces of some of his own material from across the years and weaving them together. If you *really* wanna cover all the bases before doing "For Joe," do "Dominoes" first because it gets used here too. 4) The first few bars he hums at the beginning of "For Joe" is a variation on a bit of the melody from the intro to Violet's Tale. He uses *another* variation of those same hummed bars at the beginning of Money Game 3. Hard to say which story (Violet, or Joe) he's reaching for to "set the stage" at the start of MG3 - either way, establishes a tone of the inevitability of a tragedy set in motion from the start of a life, I guess? I'm not really sure it's super important to do the songs in any kind of order, except that if people watch "For Joe" before they've heard the songs Ren weaves together in it, they might not understand why the song keeps changing (and that might not appeal to them)? idk.
If you want to continue down this path of his songs. He has 2 other ones connected to it. The first one would be "Freckled Angels". It's about his friend Joe and the last one is "For Joe" and it's the most recent one.
Ren has explained that the first half of the song is not explicitly about Joe. He was listening back to the song, thought it was too short, so started adding the second half, writing and recording it in stream of consciousness style, and it just came out about Joe that way.
the first part is about him self and the end is about his friend Joe Hughes
👍🙏 RIP
