My theory is that every fan really needs 2 ranking lists - 1. Movies that you class as THE best (Serious) 2. The re-watchable movies, (the ones you are likely to stick on whilst sick or on a Sunday afternoon) (Fun) E.g for me my best is Goldeneye, that is that the film i would show first to a friend who had never seen the series before, but I never watch it! If I am ill or want or some fun I am much more likely to watch Tomorrow Never Dies, A View To A Kill or Octopussy...
I used to hate this one, now I borderline love it. Funny how things change in light of "new information." i.e. I'll take driven Bond over wussy boy with "wife" and "child" who kills self because "it's just all too hard...
Art is objective. Opinions are subjective. View to a Kill is not better than Goldfinger - Fact. But you can personally like it better, which is what makes the bond community so diverse
I am so pleased to have found you two I eagerly await everything you share with us all. I am sitting in my London UK home surrounded by everything 007 and enjoying your company. I have posted once before that I was taken as a 12 year old by my Dad to see Dr No and from literally the first gunbarrel of them all my life changed forever. I am pleased to say that in the 60: years that have since passed I have always been known as 007 and your considerable knowledge and infectious enthusiasm will always draw me to your channels. I am proud to add as an aside that s.though a few years before me Roger Moore went to my School and my English teacher told us how he was told he would never amount to anything by the Headmaster! I am a bit random with my stories but they are considerable and I will pop them in here and there if I comment again! Great video guys you really are the tops with me. Charismatic guys both of you.
Have listened to Joe for many years. He explained very eloquently why he feels the way he does (really love his reviews with Scott). He has strong opinions for how he feels and it makes being a fan fun. I agree with many of them and disagree with some (NTTD is pretty bad except for a few sections) but he is entitled to like what he likes and not like what he doesn’t. My top films are OHMSS, FRWL and Casino Royale. Craig’s films are a mixed bag, one great, one very good, three meh. Great work, gentlemen.
I struggle to rank the movies. Partly because i realised that there were films i i really liked which were going to end up quite low, simply because there were other Bond movies i would rather watch given the chance. But as Joe said, something has to come last.
Yeah I see what you mean. It feels like anytime that I do any sort of movie ranking I always struggle because how you feel about a movie one day you might feel completely different about years later.
In his official ranking Joe said "there's no such thing as a bad movie" which is the way to look at rankings it doesn't bother me if my fave films are other fans bottom 5 or top 5. My current fave is Moonraker. I saw it on the big screen last year you can see all the money on the screen Roger was on top form it has all the elements of classic Bond but bigger ... and better. 😂
Most of those top 3’s were fairly predictable, so here we go - You Only Live Twice, The Man With The Golden Gun, and Octopussy are my current top 3. Nope, not kidding. That being said, I’ve loved Bond for over 35 years, since I was 10 years old, so my top 3 has changed MANY times, and has included all the standard favorites at various times.
The reason I believe ranking lists are inaccurate is that they change constantly over time and are never set in stone. At least I know mine certainly do. Sure, films like "Quantum of Solace" and "No Time to Die" will always rank at or near the bottom of every Bond film ranking I do, but many of the other films fluctuate wildly over time, depending on my mood and perspective at the time. For example, "License to Kill" had traditionally always ranked dead last in my rankings for years, until DutchBondFan influenced my opinion and changed my thinking about this particular movie, appreciating it more and seeing it in a new light. That's what RUclips channels like David Zaritsky's, Joe Darlington's and Calvin Dysan's are for: enriching our appreciation for these movies.
If weren’t passionate about Bond this would be a VERY boring community! Variety is the spice of life and all that! David and Joe, looking forward to meeting you and all the other attendees ay my first Gatherall!
joe said people being upset by list rankings shows passion. If i got upset about others opinions id go nuts. it's like when i get a notification a year after i make a comment to a youtube video and someone wants to argue with me. sheesh. Also my list has remained steady. I'm not influenced. Top 5: OHMSS, Goldfinger, Thunderball, FRWL, FYEO
After watching this video a day or so late i thought i'd re-do my own ranking list the top 3 of which is 1. Live and Let Die 2. From Russia With Love 3. Licence To Kill
I put No Time To Die second after OHMSS. I love it. With TWINE third, Living Daylights fourth. Licence to Kill is down at the bottom just above QoS and TMWTGG
Surely having "controversial" rankings is where the fun is. If we all had the same ranking, what would we talk about? :) For my part: 8 - No Time To Die 20 - Licence To Kill 24 - For Your Eyes Only
1. Thunderball 2. On Her Majesty’s SS 3. Casino Royale 4. The Spy Who Loved Me 5. Licence To Kill 6. Tomorrow Never Dies -I’m a little different in that I always want my top picks to represent the entirety of the franchise so I pick my favorite from each actor first, and then I rank what remains beginning with #7. And Diamonds Are Forever is my least favorite at #25.
i would be interested to know if you would consider putting together your own BOND film. I've been thinking of doing one called, simply, BLOFELD. It would be a retrospective story of the villain and for it to be made in a period that's from the 60s. Casting would be interesting. I imagine Cillian Murphy being Blofeld and Bond would be ...
Bond ranking lists are probably more fun to put together than any other film franchise, partly because there are so many films in the series and partly because tones and styles can shift so dramatically between the decades in which they're made. I've only ever changed my mind about two Bond movies and they are Man With the Golden Gun and Diamonds Are Forever. Loved them as a child, now I am just too aware of their flaws. I don't hate them. There is entertainment value in them but they rank pretty low down for me. The books were better. In all the other films, I've been pretty consistent in my opinions. Several of the 60's Bond movies have careless editing but that doesn't bother me. OHMSS is still my all time favourite Bond film. The careless edits in that movie don't distract me or spoil my enjoyment. The only real issues I have with any Bond film is in the writing. Whether it's kind of lazy and uninspired like DAF or AVTAK or it lacks basic logic like DAD, which I do find infuriating. Or it comes across as a patchwork quilt of a movie like SPECTRE and No Time to Die thrown together by committee without a consistent, well thought out or executed narrative. Where it feels very much as if they were just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick. And yes, I did clean up that analogy. I also hate the tagged on story arc for those last two Craig movies. Speaking of Craig, I don't even have a favourite Bond actor as I think the actors cast for those films at that particular time were the perfect choice for that era. People like what they like and have their own reasons for liking what they like. I can never convince Joe that Licence to Kill is top tier Bond. Believe me I've tried...More than once. Complete with logical, well reasoned explanations. No...He's not convinced. Although he did concede I made a few good points. Reluctantly, I'm sure. People have their own personal opinions about what a James Bond film should be and that's what makes these debates and rankings such good fun. It's not life or death. There's no reason for anyone to go psycho on it. I don't care that Licence to Kill doesn't do it for Joe Darlington. I don't even care that he ranks No Time to Die so highly. He's wrong...But I don't care that he's wrong. What puts the Bond community above all the other communities is the level of respect most people have for the diverse opinions of others and that in itself should always be celebrated.
My ratings changed as I matured. I grew up with Roger Moore, but grew to dislike the campyness as the Dalton and Brosnan movies were released, and especially Craig's. But the biggest impact on my ratings came once I read Fleming's books and saw how closely or badly the films matched the book plots.
Yeah I agree. Personally I don’t rank films by how accurate they are to there book counterparts but when I first started reading the Fleming novels I was shocked how different they were from the films.
I like all the Connery ones, by far my favourite bond actor. Although I think the movies and scripts were better in the 70’s roger moore ones, so I like those too!. Not including never say never again.
So, EON made 15 films in 25 years(1962-1987). And then, only 10 films in 36 years(1987-2023). What a huge slowdown after 1987..............................
Listening to dudes talk about Bond film rankings just makes me happy...regardless of where stuff falls. My peeps :) BTW, my top 3 are: 1. From Russia With Love, 2. For Your Eyes Only, 3. The Living Daylights.
I agree that one's perspective while watching the films will play a huge impact on the ratings. They could all be subgroup into different genres, despite all being 007 movies, with all their commonalities.
since taking over as scriptwriters, Wade and Purvis have sent the Bond movie's down the toilet. As next year sees the last Mission Impossible flick, maybe Eon could throw some of that money they pumped into Craig and hire McQ to write and Direct.
I have a much bigger gap in rankings with David than Joe mainly due to really liking Moore beyond his first and not being a huge fan of TND or QOS. The latter is David’s outlier which is interesting how he talks about it. Top 007 1. For Your Eyes Only 2. The Spy Who Loved Me 3. OHMSS 4. Goldfinger 5. You Only Live Twice 6. From Russia With Love 7. Casino Royale Bottom 5 - for now 21. Tomorrow Never Dies 22. Spectre 23. Quantum of Solace 24. No Time To Die 25. Die Another Day I suppose if I do another ranking Golden Gun which 20th may fall under TND and one of the Craigs but not sure. Depends on the day. DAD is the only one that is not moving for me.
Yep Tomorrow Never Dies had a big impact in the cinema. When they said White Knight it made clear Bond is the hero and he beat all the baddies at the beginnning and saved the day. And this all happens before the opening titles and it made you feel good and looking forward to the movie. He doesnt do that at the beginning of Goldeneye or TWINN and in Die Another Day he loses at the beginning.
From Russia With Love, Goldeneye, Casino Royale, The World Is Not Enough, For Your Eyes Only, Skyfall, Goldfinger, The Spy Who Loved Me, License To Kill, and Dr No. My top ten based solely on personal enjoyment. Beyond that i flip flop too often to rank the rest
The Bond ranking list have always been subjective. Alot of ppl put AVTAK near bottom of their lists, I was 2 when it came out it was the 2nd Bond film my dad showed me and has always been my personal favorite, the story, villains, soundtrack. My worst 5 are: 25. Die another Day** 24. The world is not enough** 23. Spectre ** 22. No Time to die**1/2 My top 5 5. Goldfinger ***** 4. OHMSS ***** 3. Licence to Kill ***** 2. For your eyes only***** 1. A View to a kill *****
Which James Bond movie do I show my 15-year-old nephew first who has never seen James Bond before? I was thinking Casino Royale but also didn't know if I should show him the best one first.
Looking at the comments on any Bond ranking video is amazing with the number of people who get upset/angry and feel the need to correct everyone . The idea that you cannot be a true fan if you don't have this film at number one or that film at the bottom of your list as if there is some official higher authority passed the official ranking. These are not objective lists. Its personal preference. It doesnt mean you think these are objectively the best movies. It is perfectly possible to acknowledge that between 2 movies, one may be objectively the better movie but you may find more entertainment value and therefore get more rewatchability out of the other. Therefore, of course, you would rank that film higher in your personal list. You can have a realistic, gritty, well-made movie that does not engage or connect with you. You can also have a realistic gritty, well-made movie movie that also engages and thoroughly entertains you. On the other hand, you can have a ridiculous spoofy movie, which you absolutely hate because of its silliness but then you may have a similar movie that you enjoy either because of a guilty pleasure or because of something within the film that you connected with for personal reasons.
The rankings for each and every one of us will be completely unique and customed to our own tastes at any given moment. So there is no right or wrong. There would likely be no lists of ours that are the same- as Joe says, it's almost impossible! As Bond fans, we all probably love ALL of the movies. But if we MUST rank them, some will be above others for various reasons - but it's no big deal! And definitely- NOBODY should be mad about any of them lol! HOWEVER... To me, No Time to Die is a different story lol! That Movie looks beautiful, is well made, well acted and adds more emotion and depth than any other movie in the series by far... But they kill Blofeld....they kill Felix Leiter....and they kill JAMES BOND. So that movie MUST be PUNISHED by putting it at or near the bottom of our lists!
Top 3 1. Casino Royale 2. The Living Daylights 3. From Russia with Love (4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service) (5. GoldenEye) Top Connery: From Russia with Love (#3) Top Lazenby: On Her Majesty's Secret Service (#4) Top Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me (#10) Top Dalton: The Living Daylights (#2) Top Brosnan: GoldenEye (#5) Top Craig: Casino Royale (#1)
Wait... Peeling an apple for his daughter is not okay, but making quiche for Stacy Sutton is passable? This was the height of "Real Men Don't Eat Quiche", even. ;)
I would suggest it would be better to rank the films by era…and by that I mean by actor. Each actor brought something different and tapped into a certain zeitgeist. For instance, a light hearted Moore era is very different then the sullen Craig era. By the way, you should see Godzilla fans try this! Those movies range from allegories of atomic bombs to shows targeting kids.
My current Top 12: 12. Dr. No 11. Moonraker 10. Skyfall 9. GoldenEye 8. The Living Daylights 7. For Your Eyes Only 6. The Spy Who Loved Me 5. Casino Royale 4. Octopussy 3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service 2. Thunderball 1. From Russia with Love
_Thunderball_ is my least favourite Bond movie. Funny how my least favourite is a hardcore Bond fan’s favourite. Shows how good the series is that that can be the case.
Badrankitis is an incurable, terminal condition, when it gets under your skin and into the blood. Even Q can't come up with a gadget for that; I am very glad to say
Life-long, die-hard Bond fan here. Can watch any of them, including non-Eon NSNA, and I’m even in the rare group that really likes QoS. I can find something enjoyable in all of them….. EXCEPT NTTD. That film was such a slog, I won’t waste my time on a second viewing because it was such inflated garbage. That movie was objectively awful, completely misguided, and just simply doesn’t exist to me in the Bond canon. Really hoping Broccoli and co. make it up to the true fans and get back to what makes these films enjoyable
My theory is that every fan really needs 2 ranking lists -
1. Movies that you class as THE best (Serious)
2. The re-watchable movies, (the ones you are likely to stick on whilst sick or on a Sunday afternoon) (Fun)
E.g for me my best is Goldeneye, that is that the film i would show first to a friend who had never seen the series before, but I never watch it! If I am ill or want or some fun I am much more likely to watch Tomorrow Never Dies, A View To A Kill or Octopussy...
I love Licence to Kill and I also love that Joe Darlington and others don’t. We need to remember that we are not the same.
QoS is raw Bond. I love it. He’s so emotionally ‘checked out’ and driven, I dig it!
I used to hate this one, now I borderline love it. Funny how things change in light of "new information." i.e. I'll take driven Bond over wussy boy with "wife" and "child" who kills self because "it's just all too hard...
It’s great, but it’s also a total mess.
There's no such thing as an objectively bad ranking of movies. Art is subjective. This should be obvious to people, but it's not.
Art is objective. Opinions are subjective. View to a Kill is not better than Goldfinger - Fact. But you can personally like it better, which is what makes the bond community so diverse

My Top 3 JAMES BOND Films :
3. Thunderball (1965)
2. The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
1. From Russia with Love (1963)
great live...david and joe are the pillars of the bond community. the best by far...
What's so great about Bond is that I could make a list every year and every year it would be somewhat different.
In his official ranking Joe said "there's no such thing as a bad movie" which is the way to look at rankings it doesn't bother me if my fave films are other fans bottom 5 or top 5. My current fave is Moonraker. I saw it on the big screen last year you can see all the money on the screen Roger was on top form it has all the elements of classic Bond but bigger ... and better. 😂
“Where all the other Bond’s end… this one begins!”
Moonraker is middle of the pack to me but the thing i love about it is... it's just so fun lol.
Most of those top 3’s were fairly predictable, so here we go - You Only Live Twice, The Man With The Golden Gun, and Octopussy are my current top 3.
Nope, not kidding.

Thanks guys Fun video
Joe’s list was fun
All Bonds fans lists are different
Remember as human beings we feel each days slightly different! We don't feel each day the 100% the same as the day before or week before!
This has been one of my fave discussions
After watching this video a day or so late i thought i'd re-do my own ranking list the top 3 of which is
1. Live and Let Die
2. From Russia With Love
3. Licence To Kill
I'm a Little Late but here is my Top 3 Bond Movies
1 Goldfinger
2 Skyfall
3 The Spy Who Loved Me
I put No Time To Die second after OHMSS. I love it. With TWINE third, Living Daylights fourth. Licence to Kill is down at the bottom just above QoS and TMWTGG

In the world of Bond mediapersonalities.....ranking 1 & 2 are right here gentlemen.. thank you guys
The condition you mentioned early on, I've certainly been experiencing that with my videos, so I'm glad it's not just me.
Diamonds Are Forever is the Bond film I have seen the most times - and yes, it is better than You Only Live Twice.
🤦♂️👎
I like all the Connery ones, by far my favourite bond actor. Although I think the movies and scripts were better in the 70’s roger moore ones, so I like those too!. Not including never say never again.
The Spy Who Loved Me , Definitely a Top 3 😍
Very entertaining My Top 5 is
1.FRWL
2.TSWLM
3.OHMSS
4 seriously I need a rethink
So, EON made 15 films in 25 years(1962-1987). And then, only 10 films in 36 years(1987-2023). What a huge slowdown after 1987..............................

I have a much bigger gap in rankings with David than Joe mainly due to really liking Moore beyond his first and not being a huge fan of TND or QOS. The latter is David’s outlier which is interesting how he talks about it.

I’m kinda surprised you’ve soured on NTTD. I just rewatched your discussion on it from its release
Mine would have annoyed them, 1. Golden gun, 2. Thunderball, 3. Did another day/no time to die/casino Royale 66. I love 66 Royale
The Bond ranking list have always been subjective. Alot of ppl put AVTAK near bottom of their lists, I was 2 when it came out it was the 2nd Bond film my dad showed me and has always been my personal favorite, the story, villains, soundtrack. My worst 5 are:
25. Die another Day**
24. The world is not enough**

Which James Bond movie do I show my 15-year-old nephew first who has never seen James Bond before? I was thinking Casino Royale but also didn't know if I should show him the best one first.
Goldeneye. It's modern enough (the effects all stand up) and very accessible. As long as you think he can handle Onatop.
The 2 Goats thanks
First movie I watched in movie theatre
View to a Kill in England
What can I say?
Super experience
My top 3
I know I missed the boat on the live stream but
1 OHMSS

3 Goldfinger
My top two is solid. Numbers 3, 4 and 5 have occasion to switch places.
1. Skyfall
2. Casino Royale
3. GoldenEye
4. Octopussy
5. Thunderball
Cheers David for the reply back even though I disagree with you on "No Time to Die" .........even if you pronounced my name wrong.
You should do a most entertaining list without looking at the flaws
1. Skyfall
2. Dr. No
3. The Spy Who Loved Me

Which is the best film to show a complete bond newb
the first 5 Connery films would be in my top ten
It’s funny how many people have a problem with 007 dressing up like a clown, but doesn’t have a problem with 009 dressing up as a clown.
The rankings for each and every one of us will be completely unique and customed to our own tastes at any given moment.
So there is no right or wrong.
There would likely be no lists of ours that are the same-
as Joe says, it's almost impossible!
As Bond fans, we all probably love ALL of the movies.
But if we MUST rank them, some will be above others for various reasons - but it's no big deal!
And definitely-
NOBODY should be mad about any of them lol!
HOWEVER...
To me,
No Time to Die is a different story lol!
Never got Brosnan luv??😅 Thought he was botching humor! Now get he's just playing it straight like Connery Dr No...👏!!
Goldeneye is my favorite😃
I think Bond rankings show the many facets of Bond movies and how they cater to a variety of tastes.
1) Tomorrow Never Dies
2) The World Is Not Enough
3) Die Another Day
Number 1, 3, 4, 5, have a double cross element involved in the storyline. Interesting
Top 3
1. Casino Royale
2. The Living Daylights
3. From Russia with Love
(4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service)
(5. GoldenEye)
Top Connery: From Russia with Love (#3)
Top Lazenby: On Her Majesty's Secret Service (#4)
Top Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me (#10)
Top Dalton: The Living Daylights (#2)
Top Brosnan: GoldenEye (#5)
Top Craig: Casino Royale (#1)
My Octopussy/Quantum under appreciated Bond is FYEO. Shame on you David. Such a terrific film. 😊
FYEO is legitimately one of the best. The true sequel to OHMSS.
1. FRWL 2. Casino Royale 3. Goldfinger
Great debate guys 🤘
Wait... Peeling an apple for his daughter is not okay, but making quiche for Stacy Sutton is passable? This was the height of "Real Men Don't Eat Quiche", even. ;)
Have fun at Gatherall:-)
I would suggest it would be better to rank the films by era…and by that I mean by actor. Each actor brought something different and tapped into a certain zeitgeist. For instance, a light hearted Moore era is very different then the sullen Craig era. By the way, you should see Godzilla fans try this! Those movies range from allegories of atomic bombs to shows targeting kids.
Mostly agreed, but then you have anomalies like For Your Eyes Only (relatively gritty & serious) or Diamonds (complete camp) that upset the boat.
@@paulthomas3247 fair point… but I still maintain it’s a better delineation then mixing them all together.
Hi from alness scottish highlands
1. Casino Royale
2. GoldenEye
3. OHMSS
Some people love Hard Centres
Some people love Soft Centres
But we all love Chocolate
1. CR
2. QoS
3. TLD
Goldfinger is boring. I wouldn't even put it in my top half.
I have No Time to Die one spot above Goldfinger currently, and neither is in my Top 10 *shrug*
My current Top 12:
12. Dr. No
11. Moonraker
10. Skyfall
9. GoldenEye
8. The Living Daylights
7. For Your Eyes Only
6. The Spy Who Loved Me
5. Casino Royale
4. Octopussy
3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
2. Thunderball
1. From Russia with Love
_Thunderball_ is my least favourite Bond movie. Funny how my least favourite is a hardcore Bond fan’s favourite. Shows how good the series is that that can be the case.
It’s interesting David is not into late 70’s/80’s Bond … haha it’s those shoulder padded suits ?
Strange, the Glen era is arguably the truest to Fleming.

GoldenEye at 17 is such a ragebait. 😂
Badrankitis is an incurable, terminal condition, when it gets under your skin and into the blood. Even Q can't come up with a gadget for that; I am very glad to say
I can see what Joe’s problem is...... the glass of red wine he is drinking is way too big and he is drinking to quickly!!!!!! 😂😂😂😂Regards Ian 👨🎤🇳🇿👍🏉
Running out of content, need new bond news soon
Just for fun I'll share my 4 and 5 because 4 will please David and 5 will please Joe
4 Tomorrow Never Dies
5 Octopussy
No time to die /Casino Royale/skyfall
