Are the holes where you plug in to change bands secured from rain? It seems that rain drops would get into the unused holes, especially when driving in the rain.
I have that antenna and it says without the lead you can get 80 meters I never could get it to tune but I usually talk on 40 and it does ok I did change the lead to a solid copper wire.
First of all, Happy 2021 and thanks for the effort and the video. I just purchased the twin sister of your antenna. They sell it with a different name here "Outback 2012", but from what I see it's probably the same antenna with other decals on. My manual is for Europe, so all the lengths are expressed in cm. I noticed that there are major differences between the given lengths in inches and the ones in cm though. For example for the 80 m band, my manual says "from coil to whip tip 145 cm" . I do not know what they mean from coil to whip tip, since even the upper sector of the adaptor itself is part of the antenna also! Anyway, do you prefer this antenna for mobile use or the other one you tried with the bicycle? Thanks a lot for your time 73 de SV1SLB
that antenna is the same as the proxel pro-xr1 the only defect have the copper wires too thin it is fine up to 20 watts if you increase the power it becomes a dummy load the coils get hot they risk burning
Hustler antenna are good they are made for a single band and work great ( i have use them in a dipole configuration and are perfect for a base antenna if you don't have the space like in a apartment ). You can use the hustler adapter and have more than one band on your antenna. My experience with hostler has been good over many years. Now I'm using the outback 2000. For 10, 15, 20 and 40 meters and it makes the Job whit a very acceptable swr in my mobile and apartment setup. I will try next to see how it will work in a dipole configuration at my favorite beach spot and apartment. 73's good DX's from WP4EFM
@@yankee7664 yes Evelyn, I love my hustler antennas, but I mainly use my Atas since my 857D is in my truck. I live in an RV and it's easier to just go out there and play around instead of a ham shack setup. You're about due to renew soon huh? Lol... 73s..WB1BYR
@@showcasecharlie11 well I'm using now the outback 2000 in my apartment and work's good in my balcony setup..but i have in mind to use 2 outback 2000 in a dipole configuration and see how they work. To help me whit this experiment i will use the RigExpert Antenna Analyzer and my old Daiwa CN-101 Swr and power meter. Will see how this experiment will work. I have done this whit the hostler antenna and work's great for single bands and also whit the adapter for more than 1 band ( 10, 15, 20 and 40 meters ) i will use a hr2600 in 10 meters and a ICOM IC-751 for the test..... I have a similar antenna, the MFJ 1899T. The colored tape is an excellent idea!
I like the physical measurements you made. Very ingenuous.
Thank you for your efforts. Appreciated!
I just got this antenna in the mail for my Hackrf One. Thing wasn't cheap!!!
Thank you for this video. It is very helpful .
Great Video! Ditto with the colored tape. Very helpful
You can get this antenna with either a PL-259 or a 3/8-24 stud as the mounting connector for the same price from MFJ.
I have the 1699t version, and it rocks!
@@ke6ziu I will get mine soon and it look like it can be rocks the DX. Can't wait get one. 73s from DE AG4NK.
Use one occasionally with 817..but have had incredible distance dx....3.5k miles no bull!!!73

I would not use the antenna during rain. Its secure from rain and can be augmented with electrical tape to prevent water, but it's not full proof.
It's easier to remove the stinger from the coil, and measure it that way... I had great contacts on 20 with my 1699t while mobile! N6AMF
Friend, tell me what is the name of the magnetic base for this antenna ??? You have it for 3 magnets.
It’s made by MFJ model 1699s

How'd you change the lead to copper?

Thank you. The bicycle is not sufficient radials so it didn't work .. so for now it's only mobile for me
@@yigalrechtman OK, between the two antennas, what do you prefer, which is better?

Oy! Get the MFJ antenna then
30meters is 10 MHz & 17meters is 18 MHz . Get it right.73
Yeah. You're right
Way to much work for a multi band antenna. I'll just stick with my Atas120 and hustler individual antennas...
