Great use of lashings and knots. I will be showing my Boy Scouts how to make this pack when I return from my deployment. When finishing a natural rope; we teach our scouts to wrap the twine to the thickness of the rope being finished. Thanks for you dedication to making videos for the rest of us.

I've been a Astro-physics major for 3 years now, paid an insane amount for my education...and this is by far the coolest thing I have ever learned. Thank you very much Mr.Canterbury for taking the time to make this. Best wishes to you and yours.

thanks dave i am really learning alot people do not realize how helpful it is to learn what you teach whether they are a outdoorsmen or not i do not count on the public officials to help during a disaster i am learning more self reliance from you and others so i can fend for myself and help my neighbors thanks and keep your axe sharp

Easiest way to measure for the Roycroft frame is the two uprights are armpit to finger tips long, and the crossbar is elbow to finger tip, then you have a pack frame that is custom made to your body.

Long overdue, but well worth the wait. This is the classic pack frame that has proven its worth for literally eons! Everyone needs to watch this video! Kudos, brother!

Videos like this make me really see the benifits of carring bank line over or in adition to the 550 cord I carry now . The bank line allows you to carry a lot more and I really think it gives you a lot of options if nothing else being able to carry so much more you can really do a lot of projects and not run out of cordage . Good video Dave

Hey dave that knot you used on your hemp rope at the ends. That is the best knot I have found to tie on points onto a arrow shaft or a spear. That type of knot if done right leaves no ends showing or a big ball where many other knots will.

One option you might look into is getting the nife and making your own review . It never hurts to have new videos from various points of view and from a variety of presenters .Thats one of the best things about RUclips anyone can make a video about what they want to see and post it .

Dave, excellent tutorial! I've seen this pack made several times in videos & everyone does it the same, as shown in another's comments. I think your changes are improvements & very innovative. Nicely done, keep up the good work!

Awesome. I think pack frames are the way to go. Pack on and off, whatever you need it for, wood, quarters, or in place of a regular pack any day! Learning to make one is a great skill. I'll have to rewatch a few times, but I'll get it. Wish I would've seen this before I spent all that money on a kelty frame.

That's an excellent idea. I believe we did something similar back in Boy Scouts decades ago. Of course we never got to use it it was just a project or something. You can sure turn this into a Cadillac pretty easy. For instance if you took a swimming noodle, cut it into three 1 1/2 foot sections. Been split them down the middle to where they were able to go around the wood. And then duct tape them closed again. It would be excellent padding. And instead of a rope you could use an old tow strap, and probably be able to attach a couple of plastic quick release belt buckles. Not exactly multi-use as the Rope. But it might be more comfortable on your shoulders. Option b would me to get a couple of seatbelt pads that go over the shoulder belt and put them over the Rope.

Really great information, Dave! Thanks! Making useable gear is a good skill to have. I was in the Boy Scouts from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s. The Boy Scout Fieldbook from that time is still one of my prized possessions. (NOT the Handbook, the FIELDBOOK!) If you don't have one, you should try to find one. It tells how to make all kinds of camping gear. The older BSA handbooks and fieldbooks contained gobs of useful Bushcrafting information! Modern BSA stuff is too Politically Correct.

Loved your show, and found your videos through your Pathfinder School website. Thank you so much for doing these videos on the frontier way of life. Living in Alaska all these skills can be useful and practiced when we camp. I haven't heard of marine cord before, but it seems to be a good replacement for what would have been sinew used in the old days, right?

I appreciate everything you've done so far with all the videos you've produced so far. No disrespect to you and making your videos, but i really think you need a second person out there with you to video tape your movements and knot tying. Its really difficult because some people may be new to this whole life style. They may have watched you tie those knots before, but it would be nice to watch you do them again.

Great video as always!! One idea, it might keep the from wanting to spread apart is to use your knifeorsaw and notch out thekidney brace justa bit for the vertical pieces to set in, then thengo ahead and lash it up That way, that will keep the frametogether better under load and it wont "spread" apart at the bottom

Enjoyed Part 1 of this series one thing I noticed during the first part of the video was that when you were lashing the top portion (the V that goes at the top) it was out of frame good commentary though. Also could the three contact points of the frame top of the X and the two points at the at the bottom be notched out to provide more stability?
    Thank you for your time.

Great video, Dave! As I was watching, I was thinking that this might be good for packing out elk, rather than the commercial frames a lot of guys use. That way you would not have to make a special trip to go back to camp and get your pack frame. How much weight could you reasonably support with such a frame?

Awesome. I and others used to make makeshift packpacks from wood. Nobody knew what we were doing so the end result was horrible. The straps were made out from 2mm wire coiled to be about 10mm thick. The end result was horrible and the backpak was horrible to carry. We had rope tough but we thinked we would need the rope for something else and we were scared to cut and use it as a strapping cause of the CO. Only if I had known how to make a proper frame and the rope was free to use and not needed

Dave, could you do a video on packing out large game? I figure you could just figure out how to lash it to the frame, but how do you get it back to camp, overall? I'm also wondering how to not have predators pick up on the trail, as well. I, more or less, know how to skin & gut things, but I don't know when. P.S.- Could you show how to make a frame for a basket? Can't quite figure how to do it without crushing the basket.
