The skiers, on top at Bonneville, are bonkers. That record should never be attempted, then or now! I was smiling the whole time I was watching this installment. You have the gift of a great voice. The drive to produce some of the very best content on RUclips, or frankly anywhere. A great passion for moving objects of all types. Folks, pay attention! We're watching a legend in the making!! Thank you, Brian! Your productions will live for a long, long time.
Brian, i have moved from not caring about "race" vehicles and history to looking forward to and clicking immediately on the coolest history on youtube. i still love original antiques but now "hot rods" also, thank you. You do a great job!
In the mid 70's there was a guy in town with a 66/67 GTO that had M/T Hemi heads..saw it a few times and the car disapeared, I would talk about the GTO with the Pontiac Hemi and everybody thought I was nuts.. and I'm still talking about it..
Excellent presentation. Thank you. Really enjoyed this one. Would love to see more on that car with three wheels on the right and one on the left. It seems that in all things racing, the rule books have virtually stamped out real creativity and innovation.
Brian....AI nowhere to be heard or seen Lohnes! One of my personal joys while watching one of your posts is the perfect pronunciation of each and every word and name! Thanks!
Yeah the guy had his fingers in just about everything. I don’t know who else you can say had a significant effect on earthmoving equipment, log yarding and oil drilling
Robert LeTourneau is considered by many to be the dean of high-speed mobile earthmoving equipment. Brian, I highly recommend the three books that are available describing Le Tourneau's genius. Amazing man!
Hey Brian, I am an old skool Dragbike Racer from Melbourne Australia, I Lurve your Narrative and Yes I would Drive Ride anything in you videos especially the Laydown Fuel Bike bring it on Brother
That Texaco truck Is being made in 10th scale rc. It's created out of aluminum and welded together. Absolute work of art. I do not know who is building it, I saw it on scale builders guild RUclips page.
Just when I think I've seen it all, Lohnes breaks out with these incredible photos and shows me I have a lot more to explore! Brian, As I've said before, you ARE the best at what you do. Nobody is in your league. Thanks for take time to share your passion with the rest of us!
As a motorcycle drag racer, the Jade Warrior is one bike I would love to ride. I remember the first time I seen that picture, how excited I got thinking how cool it would be to ride. Please do a full story on this bike. Another great video, be blessed brother.
Anyone who's driven a racing go-kart will tell you that 75 mph feels like 150 when you are that close to the ground, this thing must at least double that feeling.
Man, I remember those pictures that drivers use to take with their cars with different backgrounds… Those were the best… They used to get the Best Of Show awards at NHRA events… But, that blown up transmission in Larry Bower’s dragster must’ve been super violent coming out the water box! Wouldn’t want to be standing near that grenade…👍🏽
We absolutely love both these videos and you, and especially admire someone who can work "portmanteau" into an on-air conversation with Tony Pedregon... It is in this spirit that I have been required by my only-slightly-more-pedantic-than-me wife to convey the following: "Unique" is an absolute that does not have degree, hence it should never be used with modifiers, i.e. "more unique" etc. OK, now that we have covered that, thanks SO much for digging up all of these images from my youth (I'm 64) and beyond. Some I have seen, some are new to me. ALL are fascinating, so thanks! P.S. Your offerings are unique... (Happy wife, etc.)
I had heard/read stories about Ed "The Ace" McCulloch that fit very well with your Pic and story. Did you find or know anything of the "Million Dollar Drag Race" he won in the 80s and never got paid for? That might make an interesting subject to cover, even if it's with some other similar stories. I hate doing the gossip, but I heard he threw fists with quite a few of the people behind the MDDR. Believable! Thanks for another great one!
Some of the best cars, and most innovative thinking comes from the phrase "the rules didn't specify", and the supermodified takes that concept to its logical extreme. I would love to have seen what it would have done in competition.
I’ve never seen ANY off the lead off shots before the elephant jump. Please include background on those as mentioned. My point is, you may consider those first few as old hat, but they’re probably new to more people than you think. ❤ the content. This format is binge-fuel.
I really do like that Laterno(sp?) TC-492, but what I'd like even more is to talk about the Cushman trike in front of it! I got a 1960 Highlander 721 from my parents for my 14th birthday. I'm now 63, and even though it's needing a full restoration, I still have it in my yard barn!!! I hope to get it running again. I'm not sure if it will ever happen, but it is my dream!
Would I drive the “snow-thrower”? you can be first right after me 😃. I’ve seen Osh Kosh trucks w 2 engines and a big V plow to move snow. Great photos Brian ! Thank You
Another great video with incredible history and details! I used to work on and run antique steam tractors that belonged to a friend's father...big slow, powerful but not ugly! Go Brian, keep moving forward!
🤯🤯🤯 omggg in the last video all of the storys i thought where wild but today's video is even out pased it big time anyway thanks dude for the video and have a good day bye now later.
I remember the story and photos of Eddie Hills last run, but not any good pics of the busted block. Thanks for showing me that after all these years. That shot of Larry Reyes riding out the crash that destroyed "The Hawaiian" in 1969 is one I remember from the magazines back then. I was only a little kid, but I knew who Roland Leong was and always rooted for his car, especially when Danny "On The Gas" was pedalling it
6:30 There is a channel that delved (and travelled to) some of the massive arctic land trains that were built mid last century. I think the channel is called Calum, well worth a look, they were/are fascinating machines.
Great fun! No: I would NOT want to pilot that rail. I had a shortened one that lifted the front far too easily for someone with poor impulse control-and far too little life insurance to provide for my 6yo daughter. Only popped it up high once, then sold it on with dire warnings. Nope, nope, nope!
If you ever do another one of these videos in the future, showing a aftermath photo of a train that suffered a boiler explosion is worth a few minutes.
You really do a great job! How about a story about Tyrone Malone? I know his trucks are currently in Minnesota. My understanding is that he was quite a character.
as far as I can find, Eddie THE THRILL Hill is still racing. he just likes turns now. Makes me wonder if drag racing was getting too expensive being that he was running a cast block.
Brian I love everything you put out, it is done in a well thought out manner. Don't take this wrong, your content is the drag racing version of the Dale Jr Download that I have been looking for. Your videos are better than electronic ignition!😂
8:29 In Olympic sledding they have a style called skeletons, which is riding the sled head first like this. It was outlawed for a number of years due to the danger, but as of the last olympics it was brought back. This is that to the extreme 11:40 at least 8 of the tires were later used for Bigfoot #4 (around 1985), Bob chandler had toured it as a sort of freak show for many years sometimes with 4 tires and sometimes with 8 (Dually configuration). Just adding to the lore around this vehicle
Hey Brian, maybe you can write about Connecting Highway in Queens, NY A quarter mile, straight, with an overpass perfect for spectators. Runs through a light industrial area, no houses or neighbors to complain. Only night races. The closest actual drag strips to NYC were Englishtown NJ and another (can’t remember the name) way out on Long Island. Called Connecting Highway because it linked two other highways, maybe the Brooklyn Queens Expressway and Grand Central? Van Wyke? crazy stories about infamous street racers and big buck wagering incl supposedly one time the racers blocked off the highway for a match between an actual dragster vs a very hot street car. The street car started waaaay down the strip but the dragster flew by him. True? Imaginary? Who knows.
I have to brag a little bit. Eddie Hill lives in my hometown and gave me an autographed connecting rod from one of his old engines. A true racing legend, including drag boats!
The vehicle at 6:30 is the Snow Cruiser. It suffered a delay on it's roadtrip to the east coast when it got stuck in a ditch along the Lincoln Hwy in Gomer, Ohio.
Hi, im from Yorkshire, UK, been a biker all my life and owned my '68 Roadrunner 42 years, proper gearhead. Right, the Jade Warrior "ironing board" I have seen run 100 times, it was frightening to watch him get "in it" back in the 80/90s but it was NEVER a dangerous out of control Animal, wonderful build quality, pretty sure it still runs today. Next, for the first time ever I found out about the "Jack Pine 500" in the 60s, I watched the vid last night on here, amazing thing to see, blokes on 750 Bonnies, BSAs, and everything in between. Would love to see a feature on THAT wild ride. Cheers, Halifax, UK
Best thing on RUclips. Like a walk thru a gearhead time warp.
You said about all there is to say and very eloquently to boot. I agree whole heartedly.👌👍
Best 20 minutes of my week. Thanks once more Brian!
That Tucker snowcab over a crevasse looks incredible. The orange of the car looking like the only colour in the photo, gives it such a stylized look!
Brian, i have moved from not caring about "race" vehicles and history to looking forward to and clicking immediately on the coolest history on youtube. i still love original antiques but now "hot rods" also, thank you. You do a great job!
Last time I was this early, an ex was disappointed.🤣
Hahhahaha
👍👍🇨🇦
Seriously, great stuff! Short snippets or long form, I like it. Your work is awesome!
In the mid 70's there was a guy in town with a 66/67 GTO that had M/T Hemi heads..saw it a few times and the car disapeared, I would talk about the GTO with the Pontiac Hemi and everybody thought I was nuts.. and I'm still talking about it..
N u still nuts too
everyone you know knew that you are nuts long before you ever mentioned any car engine😊
Excellent presentation. Thank you. Really enjoyed this one. Would love to see more on that car with three wheels on the right and one on the left. It seems that in all things racing, the rule books have virtually stamped out real creativity and innovation.
The endless wells of money are what cause rule books to get thick. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I second that motion…. I’d love to see an episode just on that wild creation.
Great video Brian! Keep them coming
I agree, it was a great vid!
Brian....AI nowhere
to be heard or seen
Lohnes!
One of my personal joys while watching one of your posts is the perfect pronunciation of each and every word and name!
Thanks!
Just great keep it accurate, u know all the piston heads watching will call u out at the slightest mistake u record is 100 /0 still, keep on trucking
You sir, are a complete stud. One of the best channels on here. Seriously
Appreciate that and thanks for watching stuff like this!!!
Wooooohoooo! Another Brian Lohnes video! This channel needs to go viral.
So wild! So tantalizing! So much more we want deep dives into!
LeTorneau built some mental equipment.
Oh heck yes he did.
Yeah the guy had his fingers in just about everything. I don’t know who else you can say had a significant effect on earthmoving equipment, log yarding and oil drilling
Sounds super interesting. Will have to see if there are any in depth videos about him
Equipment that was mental or equipment for mentals?
Robert LeTourneau is considered by many to be the dean of high-speed mobile earthmoving equipment. Brian, I highly recommend the three books that are available describing Le Tourneau's genius. Amazing man!
Man i love these videos! You never miss!
Hey Brian, I am an old skool Dragbike Racer from Melbourne Australia, I Lurve your Narrative and Yes I would Drive Ride anything in you videos especially the Laydown Fuel Bike bring it on Brother
Man, you are a brave dude!!! Hang on!!
Great to see/hear real images and an actual human V/O on the same video , thanks Bri
This channel is steadily gaining speed like a dry lakes racer headed for the record!
Superb as we have come to expect.
That Texaco truck Is being made in 10th scale rc. It's created out of aluminum and welded together. Absolute work of art. I do not know who is building it, I saw it on scale builders guild RUclips page.
That’s interesting. It’s so beautiful, it deserves a well crafted scale model.
That burn out contest.... I was there, man!!!!!
You continue to amaze! Thank you, Brian!
I Love this channel. Thanks for taking the time to show us all this badassery.
Thank you for taking the time to watch it!!
Just when I think I've seen it all, Lohnes breaks out with these incredible photos and shows me I have a lot more to explore! Brian, As I've said before, you ARE the best at what you do. Nobody is in your league. Thanks for take time to share your passion with the rest of us!
Wonderful way to start my morning, Brian. Thanks for all your hard work.
Thanks for watching!!
7:57 Snow Cat driver at moment the track fell through: “Oh Fuchs!”
Yay! Thanks for bringing the more.
Sad thing is Hill had two massive explosions the end of that season. Two defective TFX cast engine blocks.
Man, I remember those pictures that drivers use to take with their cars with different backgrounds… Those were the best… They used to get the Best Of Show awards at NHRA events… But, that blown up transmission in Larry Bower’s dragster must’ve been super violent coming out the water box! Great video always interesting. I could watch these videos every day. Have a wonderful day 🙏
I think some of the wheels and tires from the land train ended up on the BigFoot monster truck in the 80s and 90s.
I remember seeing the Jade warrior racing here in England, Quite spectacle!
Thanks Brian! Luv your stuff!!!
man as a pontiac guy.....i sure would love to have a set of those m/t hemi heads.....
Wow, what a great collection you have. Thanks for sharing them!
Love this series, thanks Man.
I love these videos. Learn something new every time 😅
Man I love this channel.
Thank you Brian, those photos and explanations were so cool 😎 Nostalgia at its best!

Nope, nope, nope!
That rotary plow is beyond cool!
You’re doing a good job Brian! It’s very informative watching these.
Excellent, as always! Thanks for another great one!
Rich Cummings still owns the Super trike, and it’s still in operational condition
Oh man, I love content like this. Thank you!
Awesome video as always. I love these history lessons
Your vids are great, I mean really great. You do a wonderful job. Many thanks.
Whoever says the Automotive world is boring, really needs to watch these vids!
If one of those skiers had come loose, that salt would have been a horrific end.
If you ever do another one of these videos in the future, showing a aftermath photo of a train that suffered a boiler explosion is worth a few minutes.
Nothing like the spaghetti hanging out.
Might as well add the aftermath of a tanker car crushed by atmospheric pressure while we're at it too - both opposing examples, in train form lol
OK, this is the most fun on utube.
These are so great! Always look forward to see what you have for us...thank you!
Great video
I think the land train wheels and tires were sold to Big Foot, and used on the Big Foot 10 monster truck.
He bought a bunch from a scrap yard for big foot 5
You really do a great job! How about a story about Tyrone Malone? I know his trucks are currently in Minnesota. My understanding is that he was quite a character.

@0:24 I want that on a t-shirt. Again, only seen 3 or 4 of these. Thanks!
Brian, I could watch at least 1 of these every week. In addition to your normal uploads. Yes I am being greedy. These videos are fuckin awesome!
The Blitzen Benz: it was built by Benz. Daimler and Benz did not join until 1926.
You are doing fantastic work!
Bob Chandler had some of the tires from the laturno on I think was Bigfoot 4
Great video! Keep em coming!

If there's a "Best of RUclips" list somewhere, this channel belongs on it.
Great video, the sand rail and the car top skier were my favorites…
Ed The Ace McCullough was a no nonsense kind of guy.
Thanks again Brian and Best Wishes to You and Your Family
New upload! Let's fucking go!
Let’s!!! Hahah
This photo is part of my youth, as it graced the hallway at Keith Black Racing Engines until the business was sold. 9:22 (rest in peace, Roland)
There's a good video by Callum where he is in Yuma going through the control car of the land train.
Will check it out!!
Calum. You'll love this channel!
Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome you must keep this up so much fun
WOW! Great stories and thanks!
Really fascinating video. Thank you.
I have to brag a little bit. Eddie Hill lives in my hometown and gave me an autographed connecting rod from one of his old engines. A true racing legend, including drag boats!
Eddie Hill--first in the 4's. Super Shops bright yellow sign less than a mile from the house. The 80's were awesome! Cheers, Brian.
I would absolutely drive the sand rail, all day...
Brian is on a roll.
I’m hooked!! More plz….
Awesomeness! thanks Brian
