I remember this song came as a result of a Fiji Naval visit either 1956 or 57. Fiji Navy played the Aitutaki Rugby team at Ureia. After the game the Fiji team sang Isa Isa and again as their barge left the wharf to return to their ship. Soon after, this song was composed by the uncle Tuakeu Puna and I believe with some assistance from another leading teacher at the time Ponia Maka. Note the song is sung to the tune of the Fiji lament, Isa Isa.

My husband said that the current Prime Ministers father wrote this song - every time he would leave Araura (Aitutaki) to travel to Rarotonga for work commitments or other purposes he would always yearn for his homeland, he always missed his island...hence this song came about!! Love of this home❤️🙏🏻❤️

The Maori lyrics were written by Papa Tuakeu, but the music is from the popular Fijian farewell song Isa Isa Vulagi Lasa Dina. Both sung beautifully
