    10 day trend used to be my favourite for getting all the interesting extra details about what’s going on behind why we get the weather that we do, but I think I have a new favourite now! 😄 love all the additional information. Really fascinating to see the big picture and how the patterns form and all the science behind the forecast. It’s great to understand the factors and issues at play. Thank you very much!

    Said it before but commenting again so that the Met Office doesn't stop Alex and Aidan (both great presenters) doing these. Really love this format. Normally you have to go to enthusiasts to get this sort of content. It's a stroke of genius that the Met Office starts to produce this content themselves. There's a good market of weather enthusiasts that will lap it up and it makes the Met Office a real go to, not just for regular dumbed down public friendly forecasts but also to talk about probabilistic tendencies that might not make it to a regular forecast

    I really love watching these detailed analyses of the forecast. I’ve learned so much from you and Aidan over the years, it even encouraged me to take an Open University course on the weather, which I enjoyed immensely. It makes me laugh when tabloid press try an tell us what extremes of weather we are going to get weeks ahead of time. I always say, if the Met Office can’t tell us yet what it’s going to do then, how can anyone else “know”? Thank you Alex!

    Really appreciate the deep dive forecasts. Excellent for planning hillwalking trips. If possible could you discuss cloud bases, cloud cover and visibility even in slight detail? I notice that this weekend is dry, light winds and high pressure although there is varied cloud forecast, whats the best way of forecasting this? Thanks very much

    • @metoffice
      @metoffice  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the question Paul. Cloud cover and especially exact bases are some of the hardest things to predict accurately, especially in this set up with high pressure and at a range of 4 or 5 days. It's certainly something we could look at in future deep dives and maybe look at developing some graphics for. I'm sure you are fully aware of this but for a specific hill walking trip you are always best to check a detailed local forecast just before you set off, local knowledge makes a huge difference to the cloud bases from one hill/mountain range to another. Although better modeled than ever the topography in the super computer is never going to capture the exact landscape.

    • @paulisacrazyfreak101
      @paulisacrazyfreak101 Год назад +1

      @@metoffice Thanks for such a great response. It is greedy to expect so much detail! Just from my own weather checking the cloud cover %s seem to vary quite abit, I suppose that element of unknown adds to the satisfaction of hillwalking and poking just above the cloud or getting those breaks in the cloud. Yes from my experience local topography makes such a difference in weather and of course it changes so much quicker at higher elevations in Scotland. Thanks again for the deep dives and the mountain weather forecasts I also utilise. 👍👍

    Very interesting. Would still like less of the 'extended forecast' (you already do those in the 'week ahead' and '10 day trend' videos) and more of the meterological science behind whats happening, this is a 'deep' dive after all. In other words why are we getting colder/wetter/hotter/dryer, what drives these systems and how do they all interact.
