@@Dion_Mustard l dont love or hate you. Because we both are correct and perhaps Wrong judging these artists. I just take issue with people constantly tearing Diana Ross down to build up Mary and Florence or building Diana up and tearing down the Supremes. I admit I was Wrong for doing that because I let my emotions Speak. Thanks to social media. I fell in love with all 3 women All 3 at 8yrs old before social media. I will admit l favored Diane's voice over Mary and Florence only because l Never heard a sound like her voice which is neither black or white soulful or White pop she had her own Sound like Dionne Warwick and years later Whitney Houston neither Dionne nor Whitney sound white or Soulful but they dont sound White either.Diana's voice It was different not necessarily the Best loudest or strongest of the trio but it was Pretty. That's what my eight year old ears picked up. It stood out like glass. Buttered Popcorn sounded similar to Please Mr Postman leader Gladys Horton. I am not saying Gladys Horton's voice was Bad or not good. But l heard many people including my own sister who Could sing Please Mr Postman and Nail it. I loved the Marvelettes but their sound was stuck in one genre, fast and Loud and gritty and some called soulful. The same with Martha Reeves. Great power Loud churchy but rebel something teenagers ate up. Heat Wave Quick Sand Live Wire and Wild One hurt my ears after awhile. The fast pace and Screaming was a bit much to bear after a while. I wasn't interested in being Carried to Church on every song.Just as l do not like preachers pastors SHOUTING at me.l Am Not DEAF? Are they DEAF? 🥶Screaming spinning doing the Lindy hop and Charleston and the Jerk and twist and mash potatoes while preaching the word.😱 I do not believe the real Jesus broke out in a dance or screamed and the apostles beat sticks and sang hymns nor his followers. They peacefully listened. I take issues with Church pastors Screaming at the top of their lungs eyes Popping (I didn't like Diane popping her eyes either while singing or when she sang in high key. So glad Mrs Powell called her out on that.Nor did l like her almost swallowing the mic she opened her mouth so Wide 😳but when she sang calm..it was beautiful) when Martha sang soft(Which was rare)it really showed the quality in her voice Not when she screamed. When Gladys Horton sang Strange l Know and Someday Someway then you could hear the tone in her voice but not on Postman or Playboy or twisting Postman all released back to back all sound alike🤔😳. One difference between the Four Tops and the Temptations is you had the sweet sound of Eddie Kendricks voice and you had Paul Williams soulful Painful heart felt cry Dont look Back then David Ruffin who wasn't the Original leader(Paul was just as talented as David but lacked David's Charisma. Something Eddie and Paul couldn't match. David had presence. He commanded your attention moving dropping to his knees he could sing rough when needed but soft as silk in a blink of an eye .He was exciting to watch. Because he was so expressive. He didnt just stand there stiff and Sing or Just dance and oooew like like Otis Williams the most boring out the five along with Melvin. Sweet harmony unique Bass but a whole show with Melvin low bass or Eddie Kendricks high tenor stiff moves.would have been 😴 But as a Group you Better Get Back. The Steps and Harmony was So Tempting! The Contours moved just as fast but their Harmony could Not match the Temptations! Who sang just as Good While dancing! Do you Love Me was Not soft to the ears at all! 😳 put Get Ready up against Do you Love Me both uptempo and danceable who sounded Sweeter on lead and Background. Winner. The Temptations with Eddie not Paul or Otis or Melvin on lead. Four Tops. I loved Levi but tired of Shake Me Wake Me Bernadette Ask the lonely I cant Help Myself And the same old Song. They were Right ..it was the Same Old Sound with Only Levi voice. I grew bored with the Four Tops after about 15mins of SHOUTING. The Temptations l could listen to for hours same with The Supremes hours listening to their harmonies Not with the Vandellas and. Martha Reeves shouting. The Marvelettes actually were more interesting tha the Vandellas because they had Two leads Gladys and Wanda. I did not say they were better. The Supremes all could Lead. All 3 women could lead but Diane could handle certain songs Mary and Florence voice couldn't handle But Kicked Ass in the Background Harmony. The Vandellas Marvelettes couldn't Out harmonize them Not any of the girl groups at Motown or on other labels. The Shirelles Chantels Ronettes all hit before the Supremes and Motown but very boring to watch. Ok with all that said. I have no hate for you. And l know deep down inside you love Diana as l love Mary but we dont like Some of their ways.l love Some of my Family members some l have No love for at all and the feeling is Mutual. I have a sister that hates me and had a brother who hated me. Never liked them either and we all came out the same Mother. They started the hate first. I didn't retaliate l simply removed them from my life and have No feelings or hate or love for either. They simply do not exist in my World. No Live Life l dont love or hate you l dont even know you we just have a difference in opinion. And agree to disagree. Berry should have given Mary and Florence more leads because Diane would not have became Diana Ross without The Supremes who wouldn't have become the Supremes without Diana Ross the Supremes would've not have Become the Greatest Girl Group of all Time without Berry Gordy Jr. HDH Mrs Powell grooming he did Choose the right lead and group but Should have been more fair to Mary and Florence (tragic same as Paul Williams the Temptations did Paul Wrong they put David and Eddie over Paul Williams who helped form the group in the Beginning like Florence. Funny No one mentions Paul who like Florence had personal demons. All people want to say is David Ruffin was the Temptations he was important But Not the Temptations. They were successful after he was fired. The Supremes had two no.1s after Florence. Love Child was their biggest No.1 outselling all ten of their No. 1s with the Florence Ballard and Mary with only Diana on the song. Yes she no longer needed the Supremes but in the Beginning she needed Florence and Mary and Diana and Berry Gordy knew that. And they needed Smokey who Discovered the Primettes he brought them to Berry Gordy who didnt know they existed. I wont with you anymore. My heart is aching because of the state our country is in. 🇺🇸 is in a Sad downward spiral. And about to have a war between the Races. BLACK against White and Invisible Killer Of Humans. @@samthesham5294 Many good points. You sound intelligent for once. And not just mean. I love Diana's sound and her voice is very unique. I have always said that. Mary & Flo should have been treated better. We both agree on that. I no longer want to dispute with you. I can respect Diana to a point. She has made many millions of people happy over the years with her music so in that sense she has made up for the neglect she bestowed upon Mary & Flo. Diana did not care about Mary or Flo in the end. She wanted solo success. That's fact. Some would say that's heartless, some would say that's life! I say it's heartless. Anyhow, no more to be said. I played records on my record player that i bought down town in my city at a family store i played music in the basement of our house my parents did allow it because i had 2 older sisters and brother inlaws .
background singers are nicer people. lead singers - such as diana ross - are nasty and horrible. fame goes to their head. give me mary and claudette any day over bitch ross.
Mary needs to also talk about the genius of her childhood girlfriend, Diana Ross' voice.... The voice that made 'The Supremes'....The Supremes made Motown. And yes, I said that: The Supremes truly made Motown, they placed the label in a global atmosphere in the critical era of 60's Rock and Roll golden age... The Supremes financed all the other Motown artists to fully realize their own dreams later: The Jacksons, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, etc... For all the respect I have for Mary as a historical interpreter of Motown, she fails to put Diana Ross' recording pioneership into proper historical perspective and rather focuses on Florence Ballard's comedic quips when talking about her own group for audience pander. Mary does a disservice to true Motown and cultural history and to herself as a result.
@dtrn254 You're a fan of Diana Ross asking a public figure (Mary Wilson) to fawn over Diana Ross for you. Think about that. I've read and heard many praises of Diana Ross' talents from Mary Wilson and her contributions to that group over the years. I don't know where you've been; obviously focusing on the wrong things as you seem to be doing here. If Mary thinks Stevie or Berry were genius in this particular interview, so be it. What's your problem? GTFOOHWTS. Instead of relying on Mary's anecdotes to praise Diana Ross to your satisfaction, ask Diana to write of her own anecdotes within the group and sing her own praises. it's not Mary's responsibility. But you and I know good and well that that particular book will never be written, don't we?
@Sarna Hudane You are so right. It was not so very long ago that "Diana Ross" fans were complaining that Mary always talked about her in interviews. Diana Ross was no genius. She had a nice sound to her voice when produced properly, that''s all.
@@DetroitLives313 I read your comments and realize you have no idea about how the recording business works. You literally think Diana Ross just got 'lucky'. Foolish... That's laughable. ASK Smokey Robinson, Ashford and Simpson, HDH, Mickey Stevenson, Barney Ales, Suzanne DePasse...they all understood that Diana's voice was clearly special....it's really and truly what made the Supremes. PERIOD...... It's called a 'talent'. That means that not everybody can do it. 12 times number # 1 doesn't lie and it's not just about production. They tried Mary and Flo's voice it didn't work. Yes, Mary needs to recognize the genius of her girlfriend's voice -- that allowed her to 'keep laughing to the bank'.
@dtrn254 You don't know who I am! I know exactly how the music business works. I also know/knew everyone you just mentioned except , Suzanne DePass(asshole!). Diane had no natural ability. She sang lead on all but one of the Supremes flop singles. Then Mr. Gordy assigned HDH to write and produce the Supremes and they wrote songs to fit Ross' high pitched voice! 85% of those 12 #1's were written and produced by HDH. Almost anyone would have had a hit singing them in their key. If it only about Diana Ross' voice, then why did have so many flops from 1985 to 2007?
One minute she’s complaining about the contracts yet minutes before she talks about making money for 55 years off of those records (some of which she didn’t even sing on). I always find her interviews to be contradictory. For years she was friends with Diana after Diana left the Supremes. Even making Diana godmother to her child, borrowing money, having Diana as a special guest at her solo debut etc. they had a falling out obviously but it clouds her telling of the Supremes history.
Mary has every right to tell her story, after all she was there from beginning to the end. Mary is a survivor, she achieved much more outside the music industry through her humanities as spokesperson for many causes, also being appointed US Culture Ambassador...by the way, Mary and Diana both did financially better away from Motown. Motown made all acts famous, but cash poor, other than Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robertson, that's because they wrote some of their own songs, but Gordy and Smokey were always best buddies.
Diane and Mary had a complicated relationship. Mary probably felt Diana came to support her solo debut for political reasons, not because she wanted her to be successful. Their relationship was so complex. Yet, Mary loved her.
Ughhh I'm dying......MOTOWN IS MY FAVORITE MUSIC AS A YOUNGSTER IN MY 50s LOL. I hate the hairhats though.....Mary's is pulled down too low. ❤❤❤❤🎙🎙🎙🎙🎶🎶🎶🎶
@Foday Robinson Not true. You definitely don't know what you are talking about. Mary Wilson is someone I know and she has never been bitter over anything. She's the complete opposite. She is all about love.
Mary is a trip, you hear me? A full trip. That woman has had ne'er a hit, EVER on her own....yet she prances around like she is a real solo recording star and never gives Ms. Ross the credit for making the Supremes' international recording stars.... This woman is loopy and insincere. I don't like what she has done with the legacy of the Supremes in trying to create this narrative that Flo was somehow the backbone of the Supremes' success.....it's garbage and a lie. Mary is self serving y'all.
@@jonsa270 😊 funny, but true....I see Mary talking about the Supremes and I think, wow, her narrative really has morphed into some kind of 'Dreamgirls' hybrid...even Jennifer Holliday commented Mary does not seem to know the difference between the two entities. The truth is he had a lot of help, they were a family and they all helped and contributed to make it what it became.
"gordie"???????
Thank God for this precious taping of History sharing the Love afforded us from BERRY GORDY'S visions and His Dream to produce and provide this World with Superior Singers and Musicians from His House "HITSVILLE U. S. A.

I grew up in the fifties and sixties
Mary Wilson is amazing. She is 100 times nicer than Diana Ross. Let's put it like this..you could easily approach Mary in the airport and ask for an autograph..unlike Diana who storms through with a moody expression and refuses autographs. She has a very different personality away from the stage.
Shut up
@@samthesham5294 you love me and i love you.
more to the point.you know i'm right deep down ;)xx
The Temptations l could listen to for hours same with The Supremes hours listening to their harmonies
Not with the Vandellas and. My war with you (actually just us fans being Silly really childish Not serious) We got a lot More Dire issues plaguing the World. Racial Division Coronavirus 19 and a demon (not Satan.Satan only Gives orders to his demons/Generals who carry out his orders) in the White House.
I can respect Diana. But I do love Mary. I can respect your love for Diana.
The Supremes mean a lot to us both.
Therefore both of us share that in common.
Claudette reminds me of Tina Knowles...I can't explain why 🤔

It's eerie how I keep seeing Michael Jackson in Claudette Robinson's face.
They could Farm their own Trio Group called The
Background Singers. No Lead singer in This group. Where is Otis Williams the 4th member.
Soulful Moment, LLC But she didnt Lead on the hits like Ooh baby baby You really got a hold Tears of a Clown Shop Around
background singers are nicer people. lead singers - such as diana ross - are nasty and horrible. fame goes to their head. give me mary and claudette any day over bitch ross.
@@Dion_Mustard lol damn
It wasn’t because they couldn’t sing. Diana had the weakest voice but it was more palatable to white people.
Wow! I never thought about that until now. You are absolutely correct. In that aspect she is small minded when it comes to their legacy
@@tonyb65Marvin prospered too.
Diane and Mary had a complicated relationship. Mary probably felt Diana came to support her solo debut for political reasons, not because she wanted her to be successful. Their relationship was so complex. Yet, Mary loved her.
