Truly the greatest part of DBZ. Trunks, the action, character growth etc. I just love the whole feel of the cell saga, it was the height of my expereince in DBZ. You did an awesome job explaining why this saga rocks. I really enjoy the music in the background too, its very fitting.
I remembered the first time I watched this saga while watching this video and it just gave me that beautiful nostalgic feeling,it reminds me how sad I felt for 16's death and that beautiful ost that was playing during that scene,I really love this arc so much so when I feel I want to rewatch dragon ball I end up just rewatching this arc and it'll always have a special place in my heart Great video waiting for the buu saga video
Everything leading up to Goku facing down Frieza is legendary. Not only did he avenge the Saiyan Prince and his entire race from a galactic threat, he became the legend itself.
I disagree because Gohan turning super saiyan 2 felt like a great twist on a typical coming of age moment. Goku turning super saiyan was built up and character significant but Gohan turning super saiyan 2 was much more complicated and dark because of how gohan’s rage turned into sadism against cell. It shows how unstable a transformation like that could make a person, much more than when Goku turned super saiyan. Also I really like goku’s fight against cell and many of the other android saga fights. The namek fights are incredible too but I just think the two sagas are too different to compare. It’s almost like the android saga inverted (or subverted IDK) a lot of elements from the namek saga.
this felt like the last time where most of the z fighters contributed anything to the plot tbh. Tien had that moment against semi perfect cell; Krillin actually got to do some damage to imperfect cell and did destroy Gero's lab and had that wish with 17 and 18; Piccolo got close to taking out Gero, Imperfect Cell, and 17 but was interupted last minute all 3 times; Future trunks had the best 1st and lasting impression in z; Vegeta had 2 big wins and helped save the day in the end; Gohan was the hero in the end; and even Yamcha was important in locating the 1st 2 androids, reveal their absorbing ability, rush Goku to Kame-House, and give him the Heart Virus medication. Honestly, Goku is hardly in this arc given he is either on Yadrat, having the Heart Virus, or is Unalive and only gets 2 fights in the arc both of which are loses though he does have a heroic end to his character with me wishing his story ended there.

Very good vid man I love the cell saga. Personally the frieza saga is my favorite but cell is right there along w saiyan saga. Also btw vegeta in the rain happens after he loses to android 18, not before his fight w 19
@@dragonflyjones5023 I brought it up. They are infinitely less important to the story here though. Also strength has no bearing on how good or how bad a Zenkai is
Cell was the best villain because he was smart, cunning, manipulative, powerful, ruthless & menacing. Most if all nobody saw him coming. He was an unknown threat. Future Trunks didn't even know about Cell until he discovered that 2nd time machine & heard about Cell from Piccolo fused with kami. Future Trunks only said that "two androids" were coming, with them being 17 & 18.
@@MajinJavy DB is the goat of all anime and Cell Saga is my favorite so yeah. This is also based on anime I’ve seen mind you. Two greats I haven’t seen are AoT or One Piece
@ I understand that take and this is still a great video, I’m just saying there’s even more peak out there to be discovered lol. AoT has some of the greatest writing out there but if that’s not ur cup of tea there’s HxH’s chimera ant arc.
This arc has many good elements, but it definetly has massive flaws: - Goku trains 3 years with his son and still doesnt get to know him, and still would lose to 17 and 18, but after just 1 year in hyperbolic timechamber, he teaches gohan super saiyan and then they both perfect it - piccolo has similiar problem, because he goes from 2nd frieza to android 20 in the same span, but later gets no role in story despite using hyperbolic time chamber - trunks sees android 18, but does not get rid of her, despite beign both stronger and hating androids? They are just so many nitpicks that makes the story feel all over the place.
@@dogma06 well for the first two, I believe the chamber had different gravity so it aided in their training. Also I don’t see anything too wrong with either of those. You can try something for a couple of years (say drawing) and then really improve in a single year in comparison to the others. The Trunks one is pretty funny though, I would’ve annihilated 18 then and there 🤣
@ the diffrent gravity is anime only thing, but i get the point. It just sheer amount of those small issue helds this saga for me (especially since i read manga mostly, where pace is really fast and fights are short). Like how can gero build such powerful androids in the first place? Or why didnt gero built himself with infinite power source like rest of androids? What will cell do after destroying earth (before gaining instant transmision as a fast way to move around)? Why did nobody told trunks whereabouts of new namek so he could revive his friends? So for me this saga has good characterization, good highlights, but terrible pacing, doesnt explore a lot of topics (16, 17 and 18 dont do much as you mention), and cell is great, but feels generic in comparison to other standout villains
A thing i dont like is goku being off the battlefield for the entire meat of the saga, went from the tutorial fight straight to the final boss,i still dont like how Trunks's mission was to save goku so he could defeat the androids just to not meet them at any moment, and also how trunks did NOTHING after killed freeza and he warned the z warriors,he might have developed vegeta a bit but for a character of that magnitude i thought he would have been a lot more relevant, the story after gokus heart decease was moved only by piccolo and vegeta from the z warriors and the androids and cell (And also this might be nitpicking but i also think 20 should have fought goku and 19 vegeta because the beef goku had was with 20 only, and 19 fighting both just feels like a little too much, also i agree 16 not doing anything relevant other than dying for any other of the z fighters so gohan gets angry did made him pointless,i like him at all but hes fight with cell wasnt memorable and he didnt fight goku, wich woukd have made a nice trio of z warriors vs the android trio, toriyama really slept on what he could do with this character.)
@@usuario15965 these are all valid points man! I fucking adore this arc but there are some things that I wouldn’t exactly call “cons” but more like missed opportunities. I love Cell but it did seem like he hogged the arc and by the end, completely took over, even though he is incredible
