I watched this at my early teenage, and I'm really glad I did. this movie shows why you shouldn't fall for these older, mature guys that are trying to take advantage of a teen girl behind their masks. its depiction of their behavior and how young girls get attracted to them are so well done that it made me immediately understand these kind of relationships could harm myself.
Can u believe that in my early teenage the teacher who I was in love with send me this film saying things like “I watched and remember you” “She is mature and intelligent like You”... At the time I couldn’t realized what he really wanted and now I felt so stupid. 🙄😴
A beautiful cautionary tale for girls fantasizing about their futures. Yes, of course the romantic concept of an older man sweeping you off your feet, taking you places, and taking care of you without need of schooling is charming, but the reality of it can be quite crushing. I sincerely recommend this to all girls.
I love this movie soo much ..Everytime i watch it ,it brings tears in my eyes. Probably one of the only movie that teaches me great lesson. IF WE NEVER DID ANYTHING WE WOULD NOT BE ANYBODY.
The thing I didn't like about this was that Jenny's dad was so intent on her studies and education, and then when she started getting serious with David, her dad was perfectly fine with her marrying him!
it was either marriage, or an education back then. At the time, it was common sense that a woman needed to be with a man, no matter how old, as long as he could support her financially while she raised kids. That's why it was so easy for dad to be seduced by David's advances toward Jenny.
@gela85 the movie wasnt actually being in love with an older man,it was being in love with this new life that the guy was showing Jenny because as she said before him everything was so boring and then she understood that life wasnt what she thought
One of the best films I watched as a teenager now, it shows you that everything has its own time and that you come out with your feelings and love when the time for this thing comes at the right time. We all complain about studying, but in reality, your degree is the only thing that will stay with you in the end, the thing that you loved. Jenny finally realized everything and woke up from her little pink temporary dream
One of the best films of the past few years. I loooove Carey Mulligan so much- she is absolutely adorable!! Does anybody else think though that this trailer gives too much away??!
i love the movie. i just watched it. it's amazing and even that is an understatement. she was flawless in the film and the movie was almost perfect definetly one of my favorite movies of all time :)
1st of all he is trying to say don't plan your future to much becaue you might end up being disappointed by what actually ends up happening. 2nd of all the man in the movie isn't very old. only about 5-7 years older than the teenager. and last of all most teenage girls do fantasize about meeting someone a bit older than them because they think the boys their age are immature.
the title is "An Education" by Lynn Barber. It's about her whole life, not just the teenage years with David (who originally was called Simon, David was Barber's husband). She writes about her journalist career and has a funny, decesious style. I like it.
This is movie is not just about their relationship. It's about the limitations women faced in society during this time. Her frustration is that even if she does study hard to go to Oxford she won't be able to do anything beyond teaching or the Civil Service. Her only options increase her quality of life by marrying a wealthy man or become a "career" woman and be a spinster like the headmistress or her teacher. Ultimately the real life woman has a better resolution because she became a prominent journalist after attending Oxford.
So many of the venues, like the pub, the nightclub, the race track, the petrol station, all classic landmarks of London in the 1960s, were shut down and demolished just after filming ended.
I love this movie.every girl faces some temptation during their grown-up.but i am so happy to see jenny, finally understand the meaning of life and love.and i am so happy to see myself never lose my mind and the heart to pursue my dream.i was lost, but i beat it. Favorite quote"there is no shortcut to achieve the life we want." school, study is sometime boring and hard, but we get educated,we learnt the meaning of life from it.
really good movie, I am actually 18 and I'm dating with an older man, and I totally felt identified with this movie beside the ending, and i believe that everything that they do about going to clubs jazz paris and stuff its pretty cool in the beginning and obviously more fun than study the hole day but if you drop off school just because a boy man whatever its pretty dump, she could be much more smarter than him and stay no matter what happens there's time for everything in this life
What parents in their right mind would condone such a relationship. I can't believe the father wasn't ready to tear his head off.... Old men leave these babies alone!!!
I watched this show as a little girl thinking this was just a heartbreaking romantic love story. Probably because I myself was 14-15 years old & “dating” a 22 year old guy. So I didn’t even realize the movie is basically her being groomed & prayed on by a PDFile man
this movie was just so good... MAJOR SPOILER ALERT but was I the only one who noticed that his wife and son were the same ones crossing the street the rainy day david met jenny?
undoubtedly, this should have gotten Carey her Oscar. Sandra Bullock is nowhere near in her Academy award "winning" performance in a heck of a white saviour film The Blind Side. Runner up is Gabourey Sidibe in Precious, they are new breeds at that time yet they gave the strongest performances that year.
Just out of curiosity, was the grand place where the characters of Rosamund Pike and Dominic Cooper live anywhere near Regents Street? because it looks so familiar. I think I got lost a bit last year with all the no entry signs, just started driving in and out of those roads while of course admiring the view.
@ninamikou and how many people have you met who have "achieved" the life they want through short cut or otherwise? As far as I'm aware there are very few - hence there are far too many people who way into their adult life say things like "school was the best years of my life"!
Tilda Swinton, Rachel Weisz, Emma Thompson? I agree that Mulligan and Winslet are fantastic actresses but personally there's so much British acting talent; I'd be hard pressed to choose just 2 and declare them the greatest?
What's with Olivia Williams and OXFORD UNIV.? The film really worth seeing... is Polanski's thriller and eye-opener... The Ghost Writer. She's in it... and very good, whatsmore (as are ALL the cast).
Isn’t that’s Sally Sparrow from the 10th Doctor, Doctor Who series? Anyway, I have to see this movie. I haven’t had a chance to watch it. It’s looks very interesting. Thanks for sharing. P.S. God loves the word so much that he gave his only begotten son, Jesus Christ. Anyone, who shall believes in him, shall have everlasting life.
Glad she got out just in time. I was worried for a minute what if she got pregnant and would end up exactly like the wife who looks miserable and unhappy. She has a very bright future ahead of her but she lacks discernment..she was surrounded with all the grown ups yet she never became wise. As i was growing up my mother used to say, be very careful of the adult coz they prey the young..

report him. he will do the same to many others till he finds one who will do what he wants

I wish men would watch this and learn not to prey on teenage girls.
Many wise observations here. Thanks for sharing g folks.

I wish I had seen this movie much earlier...
Is that always the case

Yes I too to all man
Just finished watching this movie. Lesson learned? Stay in school.
Also the lesson from Pinocchio, the original, not the Disney version.
And don’t go out with a pedophile.
@@Alice-jz6tipedophilia is attraction to to someone below 12 next is hebephilia and ephebophilia which doesn't considered as mental disorder
"actions build character..if we never did anything, we would never be anybody"
That's deep
This is quintessential viewing for every teenage girl. Though teenage boys might wanna give this a watch as well, just in case.
this movie is so inspiring..it inspires people to learn from their mistakes and reach their full potential no matter what has happened in the past.
Well, in this instance, yes. Things would be very different and complicated if she becomes a mother unexpectedly.
I love this movie soo much ..Everytime i watch it ,it brings tears in my eyes. Probably one of the only movie that teaches me great lesson. IF WE NEVER DID ANYTHING WE WOULD NOT BE ANYBODY.
"I feel old but not very wise"
Beautiful movie. I loved the message very much, it might be obvious to us the adults, but it’s not for many teenage girls.
normally not the teenage girls fault. The older guys should know better teenage girls normally dont because they are teenagers.
The thing I didn't like about this was that Jenny's dad was so intent on her studies and education, and then when she started getting serious with David, her dad was perfectly fine with her marrying him!
It's actually true. Read Lynn Barber's book An Education.
I love that element- it shows how we’re all human and capable of being seduced. Think of the time in which this film is set. ❤️
That was pretty common. Women were expected to marry. Her education was never all that important to her father. My father felt that way too.
it was either marriage, or an education back then. At the time, it was common sense that a woman needed to be with a man, no matter how old, as long as he could support her financially while she raised kids. That's why it was so easy for dad to be seduced by David's advances toward Jenny.
I think he thought the man would take care of his daughter and she'd be provided for, nothing wrong with that
Simply beautiful film. Carey Mulligan is such a natural! She was so amazing in the film.
Seriously one of the best I’ve ever seen. I love Carey and all her films.
:OOO OMGG SHES THE GIRL WHO BROKE GATSBY'S HEART!!!!

Sorry, I prefer David's friend ;)
I know right. David is eww.

One of the better films I've seen over the years....and the opening number by Floyd Cramer is magic!

2/5 of the Bennet sisters!! Lizzy, Lydia, Mary, where are you?? 😂
No. When I saw the film, I was unprepared for the big reveal, and this trailer gives no indication about it.
i love the movie. i just watched it. it's amazing and even that is an understatement. she was flawless in the film and the movie was almost perfect
definetly one of my favorite movies of all time :)
I can't help but notice that Peter Sarsgaard's chest hair is shaped like a tree.
I thought I was the only one! Lmaoo
I loved this movies since i watched the clip. Who else?
Peter Saarsgard is an amazing actor, and Carey Mulligan... wow. She's great! Can't wait to see it!
That's such a disturbing relationship...
And it is now a Wattpad book, a fanfiction-mystery-thriller you can say
I meannnn i agree with u but at the same time i be droolin over actors like RDJ, Jason Statham & Brad Pitt😂😂😂
One of the best movies of all time.

Isn't very old? With the amount of lines on his face, he looks her father's age. C'mon now.
He's 15 years older than she.

Where was this movie filmed in Twickenham, as mentioned? Or what, please, I hope to get information 🌼💙
My third time watching this today over the span of years. A lovely finely crafted movie and how I discovered Carey Mulligan.
this movie is beautiful, I love the script. never leave school
So many of the venues, like the pub, the nightclub, the race track, the petrol station, all classic landmarks of London in the 1960s, were shut down and demolished just after filming ended.
But why?
Care Mulligan was robbed an Oscar!!
The funniest part of the movie is after they do it... She says; "I don't know Why so many people make such a big deal out of such a small thing" 😂
I love this movie.every girl faces some temptation during their grown-up.but i am so happy to see jenny, finally understand the meaning of life and love.and i am so happy to see myself never lose my mind and the heart to pursue my dream.i was lost, but i beat it. watch this film like 6 times already. love it:)

EXCELLENT movie! Absolutely brilliant. Peter Sarsgaard voice, as well as accent did annoy me quite a bit, though.
beautiful movie .
This probably won’t mean anything to fans of this film but the chap playing her father went on to play Doc Oc in the Spider-Man films!
im watching it today. hope its good
