Forget about holes for a second, there are two currents in semiconductors. One is due to movement of free electrons. And the other one is due to movement of electrons which just breaks the bond and move to a vacancy or an empty space ( this is called hole). But in the second case, we don't say electron is moving but we say a hole is moving.

Hole is the correct term in semiconductor technology. So Student's Corner sonathu correct. Hole doesn't represent individual proton, where proton term is used for a particle in the study of atom. Proton is a particle, hole is a term for semiconductor technology which means that piece of semiconductor has electron attracting active layer formed by atoms that can easily lose electrons example phosphorus atoms on electric excitation, you may ask why we can't build materials only with phosphorus atoms without any silicon atoms? The answer is such phosphorus atoms in reality can't form rigid structure like copper wires, but silicon has rigid structure, so phosphorus atoms are doped with silicon atoms emerging as new technology called Semiconductor technology. So hole is the term for phosphorus atom which can easily leave electron from its last shell to become phosphorus ion which is positive ion, that's cathion , so that process p-type doping.... Hole represents phosphorus ion, not just proton of phosphorus....

Triode is a vacuum tube technology of earlier 20th century and Transistor is a semiconductor technology of 1950s i.e later 20th century and Transistor is analogous construction of Triode, but the terms Transistor and Triode are not same and these terms represents different technologies... So terms must not be interchanged.... Use proper Tamil translated terms...
