He must not have realized that Bond went out to meet Ourumov to be captured along with his friend instead of easily finishing the job. I am sure he wasn't going to blow the place up if he was alive. I always thought that he WAS going to blow the place up anyway. While Alec was still "alive" he came out to surrender, but cut the timer down to 3 mins just before; mayb in attempt to take the place down with them rather than be taken alive. This would have satisfied his loyalty to his friend AND the mission. 😅 Just guessing but I love speculating. Fav Bond movie and best music score ever!
Alec was angry at James for cutting down the timer from 6 minutes to 3 minutes. On the train scene Alec set timers for 3 minutes instead of 6 to get back at James.
As pointed out, remember how Alec made it a point to bring back the "3 minutes instead of 6" bit. That's why he was pissed, cause Bond fucked him up by accident. Then again, I honestly don't know what he expected of Bond when he swore he saw his friend get shot in the goddamn head, not like he would've cared if he was dead. Although to be honest, there WAS a quick cut when it happened, so we didn't actually see it hit him. ...The Wii remake, however, Alec gets blatantly headshotted on camera from Bond's POV and doesn't even have scarring from the explosions, so the loyalty line just makes no sense.
I love the implication Alec later makes that this sort of thing is the 00 section's "day jobs" and that what we see in the movies is just the out of the ordinary adventures.

as far as i know (and from what i've read and seen in ALL the James Bond sources i have been-through so far: movies, books, novels, videogames, etc.) there's 7 "00"-designation agents. 002, 003, 004, 006, 007, 008, 009. the Bond game "Goldeneye 64" for Nintendo 64, in the folder for one of the missions, has Q advising James to exercise caution when handling the remote-detonated mines, stating that "you know what happened to 004 in Beirut" ...
from what i saw James did set the timer for 6 minutes but then when he saw that Alec got caught he went back to one of the bombs and switched the timer (which was already counting down [from 6 minutes and was at 4-something or 5-something]) to "3:00" (aka. 3 minutes [to detonation]). from what i can see[/tell], he did this so that Ouromov and his men wouldn't have enough time to defuse AND chase-after James in the resulting escape [James did] from the facility.

I love the soundtrack to this film. So cool.
Yet in the game he jumps WITHOUT the bungee
I have no idea whether this is the best bond movie or not but this is for sure the most badass intro ever!!!!!!

When I shared the piece of news about the death of Gottfried John (the actor of Colonel Ourumov) on Facebook a few years ago, my big brother said, that he didn't recognize the name but he remembered Ourumov, when he saw the picture of him (he was 15, when _GoldenEye_ came to theaters - while I was only 2 years old)
I played the game before seeing the movie, and when I did, I liked pointing out how such and such a scene was from a certain level of the game, as if the game came out before the movie... lol.
I always watch these scenes in the film then turn it off. The music is so cool gives you goosebumps. The best james bond i think.
Love the video's title. Being young as I am (only as old as the movie, more or less) I came to know the game before the film. Totally brings back my childhood to see the mission names.
Actually espionage was the only thing both sides were allowed to do. That and Nam.
This dam is in Switzerland. They actually set a Bungee jump record with this scene.
