When I first heard this song I couldn't help but laugh. The FPA's government was so obviously a sham. But when I heard it again in episode 86, that's when I began to love it.
I like how despite how objectively bad the FPA is during most of the story (it certainly was the side that had it coming most after all the awful decisions of its terrible and idiotic political leaders) you slowly grow fond of it because of its core ideals and the people who honestly fight to revive them (Yang and his crew).
By episode 86 it's the anthem of less than 1 million believers in democracy against the 40 billion of Reinhard's empire, all on one ball-bearing that, a year ago was the fulcrum of the human universe.
@@funktimusrhyme actually it is the anthem of a military junta at that point. Both yangs wife and julian were not elected at all, just appointed by their supporters for their positions. I can't help but feel the same, but I love the anthem itself, especially it's origin story; however I hate everything else it is associated with, i.e., my country :[
I am disappointed that in the 2018 version they did not include the anthem of the FPA. Even if it was different, I would have liked a lot to hear it in the episode.
its still kinda early for the remake to put this but I hope in their next 4 movies coming out next year they make a version of this though. I just finished the remake and currently watching the original 80's OVA and it seems the remake is being careful like taking baby steps since this show doesn't seem to be known in the anime community aka its very low key
Not really, the new show already surpassed the scene in which this was first played and it did not sing it. If I remember correctly, in this new version Trunicht said, and I am paraphrasing, "I will not stand here and answer questions I have not personally given permission to be asked , play the national anthem!" and then we had some instrumental melody for a few second before the action scenes with Yang. I should have instead started paying this anthem and continue with the action scenes with it in the background. Kinda like the transition they made in the original anime. And I disagree the new anime is taking baby steps. It is more like skipping almost all the scenes which do not involve Yang and Reinhardt and the ones made for world building purposes. It is not as much bad writing as they tried to cover too much of the story with only just 12 episodes. I have watched every episode, bar the last one(did not have time and forgot about it later) while re watching the original OVA and they did a very poor job in expanding the world and making it feel alive and in showing how big of an impact the decision the the higher up have on the civilians and their military personnel. Still, it is not as bad as I have expected it to be, although it still feels rushed and a little dumbed down to me. I do not know how big LoGH is in Japan, but from what I heard it was the biggest OVA in the 1990s in terms of popularity and given the high quality frames of the new anime(most of the time) I have the impression that it is big enough to make a big profit.
could be a possibility that the studio involved is a factor. the studio that made the remake was also the studio that animates Attack on Titan and Kuroko no Basket and seeing that AOT is more popular they focused on that instead of this. that's what I meant by baby steps, the animators where probably focusing on this and someone said AOT season 3 is coming and focused everything on that hence why it feels rushed. there is also another thing though, they probably assume that those watching the remake would've have already finished the original 80's OVA that's why it kinda feels rushed and skips some world building. though I agree with you though on everything. I like the remake but at the same time I dislike it due to the character designs and looks. the remake makes Reuenthal and Schenkopf(who suddenly looks like he is of the same age with Yang instead of being an older middle aged man) look like some fujoshi's wet dream(wouldn't be surprised if they made the fight scene between the two and some yaoi fan art suddenly spring up on the internet), the confusing identical looks of Admiral Fisher and Bucock then there is Cazellnu and Murai and those two Rosen Ritter officers who got new looks adding to the confusion. but I still like the remake's action scenes though and how they designed Frederica and Dusty Attenborough's looks.
It could definitely be a factor, however I think it is at best a secondary factor. I still believe the main problem is that they tried to cram so much in just 12 episodes and thus they had to skip entire world building segments of the story. That is why it think it feels very rushed. This is not a very good way of introducing this franchise to a new generation of fans, although is still is the best anime that came out this year. Just to rub it in how much the quality of anime in general has fallen. Oh, and I completely agree with you opinion of the new character designs. It is just awful. Granted, the original had fujoshi pleasing designs, but only for Reinhardt and Siegfried, because they were young and larger than life personalities, so their designs made them stand out among the realistic and not so perfect looking characters in the show. It made sense! In this remake, everybody looks almost the same and a lot younger. Suddenly, Yang looks just as young as Reinhardt and not like a decade older war veteran who could beat the imperial startup in a battle any time of day, while sleeping and with less resources. You already mentioned Schenkopf, whom does not look like someone belonging in a melee specialist unit, especially not in a position of power or a leading position on the front lines. Reuenthal got it the worst of all. How did they make such a horrid design for him I do not understand. It just does not look like a guy who is an admiral in the huge space force! Again, I completely agree that they designs are horrible! That is what happens when you let modern anime designers on the board.
they probably assumed that we watched the 80's OVA and are already familiar with the lore and such, also they could've probably thought that this one might be a 5%hit and 90%miss or will be lowkey since popular and highly marketed anime titles being released in the same season as this(Tokyo Ghoul:re , 2nd cour of Darling in the FranXX, Steins Gate, Full Metal Panic and etc.) which shadowed this show. Designs were 75% horrible with Julian(becoming generic-looking), Schenkoppf, Reuenthal and Cazellnu(portrayed as kinda too old) taking the brunt of it. good designs IMO are Oberstein who despite being a Levi knock-off seems more intimidating and a guy who always has schemes up his sleeves, Mittermeyer looks a real veteran admiral and deserving the nickname "Gale Wolf", Patrichev who closely resembles the 80's OVA design, Bittenfield who now looks like a battle hungry admiral, and Frederica seems to be a real waifu material XD though can't wait if they introduce Hilda and see the fcking waifu wars erupt in the reviews. but the best one would have to be Dusty and Poplan's design they really look like the cocky and witty but skilled commanders

Is it just me or does the Free Planets anthem has a depressing vibe to it, like the sound of a democratic nation desperately trying to hold on to its ideals and very survival (as clearly portrayed in the show)?
in my own opinion it is an inspiring piece of democratic symbolism it basically tells you about how a truly democratic society isn't a given or natural thing but a daily struggle of everybody who share it and how it is necessary to always nurture and protect its values and ideals to keep it alive. in few words, rather than a lament is an invitation to act.
When we initially hear it at the Truniht rally it is representative of the militaristic perversion of democracy that Truniht is pushing, however when we hear it performed by, for example, the Iserlohn Republican Army we get a sense of duty and sacrifice to uphold and restore democracy, so I think that the song manages to both inspire and critique democracy at different points in the show, depending on the context.
@@kapitankapital6580 At Truniht's speech you get a juxtoposition. The anthem represents what the FPA was founded on, while the Patriotic Knights Corps hunting down Jessica Edwards is what the FPA has become. The ideals vs. the corruption.

It's a little goofy, but I like it. Really feels like someone who wasn't very poetic somehow managed to write a song that akwardly, but still effectively conveyed their feelings of passion for democracy.
Is it ever explained why there are so few asians? I can understand on the Empire side but there are not many on the Alliance side either... were there some events that led to white people being so numerous compared to blacks and asians?
+theuglykwan Mate, this is just a guess. Kaiser Rudolph might've purged everyone he deemed inferior aka, non-'german' in their version of the final solution that created the Goldenbaum dynasty aka Hitler's wet dream. Notice how homogenous the Imperial Empire is bother culturally (food, architecture, language) and ethnically. Also, all the nobles were 'German' in name. The FPA had a few minorities hanging around like Yang, Trang and Mashengo as well as different cuisines, they basically survived the genocide.
You're absolutely right. I overlooked the fact that the Alliance was a breakaway from the Empire after a couple hundred years so their makeup would have followed the Empires. I was operating under the assumption they were separate regimes from the get go! So i was like... surely blacks and asians should be the majority in the Alliance! Thanks for reminding me.
+theuglykwan There was a nuclear war on earth before it was unified and Kaiser Rudolf purged the Empire. Both of these probably killed a shit ton of asians. The FPA is basically where the non-whites are. Yang Wenli and Heinessens successor were asians.
I really wish I wasn't a person who fully believes in autocracy 100%. This song would probably make me tear up and have so much more meaning to me when I was a stupid kid.
its wrong to believe in complete autocracy I am a man of a republic that is real and true and can change into an enlightened autocracy if needed to survive but I believe the freedoms of the people must be protected if at all possible
Interesting considering 90% of autocracies are just complete shitholes for basically the entire population minus the leader and his close subordinates.

This is a good anthem.
Voyage of a thousand light years, onto a land where we see no kaisers and oppression...
It's a little goofy, but I like it. Really feels like someone who wasn't very poetic somehow managed to write a song that akwardly, but still effectively conveyed their feelings of passion for democracy.
Should be a theme song for the Hong Kong protests.
イゼルローン共和政府万歳!
i like a lot the anthem, but is all out-sync and the lyrics are a bit wrong, i feel it deserves better
UPして頂いた方に心から感謝いたします^^
Official anthem of the Free Planets Alliance, the Iserlohn Republic and unofficial anthem of the el facil revolutionary government
sounds a bit like the east german anthem imo
This is so moving!
text and audio are so desynchronizated I wish this video didn't exist
I fucking love this anthem though.
DIE KAISER! Viva Democracy!
Kind of sounds like the East German anthem for some reason
*screaming from top of lungs* AUFERSTANDEN AUS RUINEN!!!
this kinda sounds like international.
Maybe this will be played again in 50 000 years on Planet X, and they going to screenshot what I typed on youtube.
FOR THE FPA
Its back! :D
Yang in the show made me like democracy a little more, when no mater who you vote you get bad leaders it makes you wish for strong government.
"The right to violate the rights of the people belong to the people alone"
民主主義万歳!!
+Hat21 I think I have to agree with that. Asia and Africa were probably hit very hard by the nukes.
Asian like... 'Yang Wen-Li'? Anyway in the book it mentions that the majority of people are all mutts and there're no distinct races.
hail to republic
Democracy is Faith
Democracy is death
아직도 듣는 노래.
Someone should do a Helldivers video to this.
Wouldn't the Imperial Anthem make more sense?
I really wish I wasn't a person who fully believes in autocracy 100%. This song would probably make me tear up and have so much more meaning to me when I was a stupid kid.
its wrong to believe in complete autocracy I am a man of a republic that is real and true and can change into an enlightened autocracy if needed to survive but I believe the freedoms of the people must be protected if at all possible
Interesting considering 90% of autocracies are just complete shitholes for basically the entire population minus the leader and his close subordinates.
Kutabare!!! Kai sahhh rrr

Is there an instrumental version of this song?
YoshiRider ya there is, it's more or less featured a lot throughout the show usually at the end of a episode, if you can find the multi-disc OST it's usually just listed as instrumental
