Funniest commentary. Sun Yang takes off with 125 meters to go. They miss this sudden acceleration. He goes into a fast, remarkable, unprecidented sprint over the last 100 and breaks the record. The commentary missed the boat on this!!!
He didn't just cruise. He just rested his legs the whole time. His shoulders were probably on fire for most of the race. His legs were probably fine until the last 50, though.
his height ,stroke length , perfect streamlining, strong high elbow catch, brilliant use of kicks(very energy efficient so that he can explod at last lap ). think guys with average height ,trying to copy his technic will be a disaster)
Exactly. If you see somebody walking over the water you would think he's cheating isn't it ? I have practiced and competed in swimming for years and for me walking over the water and 54" in the last split in 1500 is pretty much the same.
I was kidding, man. Every race, color can swim just fine. Chinese men had never won a swimming gold till yesterday. China got lots of talent. Just not been able to find them all . You will find most swimmers in the Olympics now are from the same area of Hangzhou, near Shanghai. When China finds more talent...only then can it excel. Liu Xiang is one to look for in tracks. US has the advantage of using every race in their teams. China doesn't have that advantage.
I don't understand, when Hackett smashed Kieren Perkins's record by more than 7s did you stand out and say that Hackett must be on drugs? And everyone knows that Hackett used 6 kicks during most time of his race, Sun just used 4 kicks, no need to mention that 2 of the 4 was pretty light kick. That made the difference when the two great swimmer both used 6 kicks during the last 100m, obviously Sun could make it a lot more faster.
ok.. are we talking about atrocities committed by Chinese/US govt/society in recent years or are we talking about economics? what do either of those things have to do with swimming? about dates, you started with 1989 so where did 2012 come from?
I can't convince you against your opinion; I don't know if he is in fact on drugs. However, any real swimmers know that feeling at the end of a race when you reeeeeaaaaaalllllyyyyyy want to get that time or beat the person next to you. If you want it that badly, you'd be surprised what the human body is capable of.
I don't disagree. but what does that have to do with Sun Yang? Are we gonna discuss Abu Gharib, Gitmo , US support of Saddam in the 80s, lynching of black people, slavery, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, genocide of the native americans etc etc every time we celebrate Phelps?
Its Sun Yang, strange stroke that has me questioning his legitimacy, I know he is 6'6", but is breathing, as far as i can tell, is irregular, and his kick as well. I know how distance technique, and he doesn't do it. Maybe its a turning point in distance stroke technique. I resent that you believe that I am rash to come to conclusions, I have given it much thought. I have analysed his stroke, and every time it seems more and more bizarre that he broke Grant Hackett's record.
What an unfair system, and even a discrimination bias. The cameras focus almost exclusively on the first; when in reality all the swimmers are elite athletes, and you are all competing in a final. Beyond which one will be the winner, at least the FINA, and all the diffusion system should change, as if only the winner had trained for years to get there. That's why only Sun Yang swims, and without contempt for him. With luck the camera and very occasionally focuses on the second; everyone does not take them for almost nothing. I repeat perverse system, all Federations should complain. Greetings to everyone, from Argentina.
nop,im distance and mid distance guy,but the problem is that i like mid distance,i even like watching 1500,but i really don't like to swim it. :) my 100 in LCM is 53 which is not that fast,my 200 and 400 are better thought.
i make 14:30 swimming 1.000m and i dont move the legs...but in the last 50m i start to move my legs and i made the last 50m in 31-32 seconds...i go all the time at 44 seconds all 50 m and the last one i finish strong if i can do this..i think sun yang can make the same at his level his tecnique its near the perfection...look sun yang and cochrane sun dont splash water...compare with cochrane...and cochrane is very good swimmer also...
+Fruit Living He seem to really angle his hand to get some lift along those glide and like you mention he do realize that the angle of attack now is too high.
Good observation. Beautiful technique. Notice - in underwater footage - look at his right leg a fraction after he flicks his left. The right leg just glides - he appears more concerned about tucking it in, not allowing it to drag. He certainly does not kick with it (or at least not much). Hackett does the same thing - look at underwater footage of him elsewhere on RUclips. Wonder if it is the common influence of their common coach Denis Cotterill?
Big, big matchup I look forward to in Rio is between Sun Yang and Mack Horton Aus swimmer at Rio. I don't think the 2 of them have raced at a major competition. Mack is just 20 yo. Swam 10 secs slower than WR at qualifying meet in a race where he was not pushed. Like the wonderful Sun Yang, Horton averages about 28 strokes per 50m. Not as streamlined, but has strong upper body strength.
I am a swimmer, and I know what you are talking about. It's just that I have a hard time believing that Grant Hackett could be beaten in such a fashion. That alloy of determination and adrenaline can work magic (Its made me put up some remarkable splits), but he essentially pulled a 1400 on par with Hackett's record, and then threw in his kick to surge past. That. Is astounding. Whatever the truth is, that race is one of the most remarkable sport competitions of the modern era.
haha, that undetectable drug would most likely got its use on Chinese men's soccer team first... you have to think like this, Sun Yang would be superman more than 100 superman if he really used drugs like you said, same as Ye shiWen, and more, see his legs in the beginning, he did not use any full power to swim, others did, he just went like a fish
China has more or less match the world's best in swimming;the only sports they are trying to catch up now is athletics which is not impossible, but we Asians physique in athletics are not as good as the white and the black ppl, so I guess it will be an uphill task.
i'm assuming you're a sprinter that only has to do an hour worth of practice. sprint events should be cut out from the program because it requires no skill, just pure strength. an equally ignorant remark. see the flaw in your argument?
Congratulations to Sun Yang. And honestly, if i hear another person declare that there is doping involved i will seriously pull out my hair. Michael Phelps accomplished the impossible. He's golden. Missy Franklin accomplished something great. She's hailed as the next Michael Phelps. Give the Chinese the honor that they deserve for God's sake! There is nothing impossible--men have walked on the moon.
Ad break; the US broadcasters do this when its a long event. So it is the 'complete' coverage of the race as 2 minutes was lost due to adverts. You can probably find the 'missing' 200m somwhere else on RUclips!
It is kind of funny that the commentator did not notice that Yang Sun was so close to breaking the world record. They were talking about something else, until the very end that they noticed that the WR is about to be broken.
You said you were a swimmer, and I have to say that you lack the basic knowledge as a swimmer, you don't analyse, you just made the conclusion without any sort of reasonable thinking, shame.
Sun Yang broke his own WR today!!!!!!!!14:31.02!!!!!Legend!
Funniest commentary. Sun Yang takes off with 125 meters to go. They miss this sudden acceleration. He goes into a fast, remarkable, unprecidented sprint over the last 100 and breaks the record. The commentary missed the boat on this!!!
Rowdy at the end😂😂😂
It's ok though because Rowdy screaming at the end makes up for it 😂😂😂
Good work SUN YANG, I love your hardwork in Australia .
Love for Sun Yang from India! Ignore the haters cuz haters gonna hate!
He didn't just cruise. He just rested his legs the whole time. His shoulders were probably on fire for most of the race. His legs were probably fine until the last 50, though.
U know U love swimming when you look through the entire video without skipping to the end!
World's biggest voice crack. Not to diminish the awesomeness of this vid: this is unbelievable, but man, what a voice crack.
Beautiful moment!
his height ,stroke length , perfect streamlining, strong high elbow catch, brilliant use of kicks(very energy efficient so that he can explod at last lap ). think guys with average height ,trying to copy his technic will be a disaster)
Sun yang is simply the BEST
Beautiful and smooth.
Cool! I want to try that in my own swimming pool.
"he did it, he did it, he did....i dont believe it......it's unbelievable...."
amazing!!
He just smoked that record by like 3 seconds.
what times did he fall into the water?
looks like Sun's adopted a total immersion style swim
Sun Yang ^_^ China Sun 4ever
At this level, Surely it's more in mental than in physical
Heya. You Came Through. savory billowy What's your opinion about it !
he makes it look so easy
sun yang - good
Look during the race. He does not kick most of the time. His arm tempo stays the same for the final 50, but his kick power and rate increases.
Exactly. If you see somebody walking over the water you would think he's cheating isn't it ? I have practiced and competed in swimming for years and for me walking over the water and 54" in the last split in 1500 is pretty much the same.
William Hung is a great swimmer? Who would've known.
Sun hay is the best

Unbelievable! And just like any other chinese he WASN'T doping.
Cool story bro, tell it again
no importa lo que hagas siempre abra algún asiático que lo haga mejor.
10:29
I could see that, Im saying that there's no way he just cruised by Grant Hackett's record.
yeap i agree
ok.. are we talking about atrocities committed by Chinese/US govt/society in recent years or are we talking about economics? what do either of those things have to do with swimming? about dates, you started with 1989 so where did 2012 come from?
15:20 dafuq is wrong with his fingers
A lot of people who cheated in the past achieved things that look ridiculous compared to what contemporary swimmers do these days.
what happened to his teeth?
I can't convince you against your opinion; I don't know if he is in fact on drugs. hey SUN is 198cm
jaime
孙杨牛逼!!!!!!!!!!!
15:10 XDDD
trimétazidine.... it s very bad....
lol. keep learning english pal--- you're almost there
sun yang! not yang sun!
anyway sunyang is the best! haaa 孙萌萌
The water hit his teeth too fast.
Oh catch-up stroke. How I hated you.
Yah, saw those teeth. He's quite pleasant looking but this young chap needs braces to correct those crooked teeth.
Its Sun Yang, strange stroke that has me questioning his legitimacy, I know he is 6'6", but is breathing, as far as i can tell, is irregular, and his kick as well. OF COURSE!!! CHINA IS THE BEST IN SWIMMING
You are wrong. China is the best in diving not swimming. USA is the best in swimming.
nice swim, but he needs to see a dentist
hahaha @15:10

This guy seemed to break his own record almost EFFORTLESSLY!!!!!! Good god he's good.
Really great athlete.
How can he swim the last 100m on 54.2?! My personal best is 54.86, and he did it after swimming 1400m on a crazy pace!
sun yang is still young ( 20 ) , I'm sure he'll improve even more in the future :)
Wow, amazing Sun Yang ^o^
i make 14:30 swimming 1.000m and i dont move the legs...but in the last 50m i start to move my legs and i made the last 50m in 31-32 seconds...i go all the time at 44 seconds all 50 m and the last one i finish strong if i can do this..i think sun yang can make the same at his level

I hate how people fight in the comments so reallly i just keep clicking show comments
this kid has the smoothest freestyle stroke i've ever seen
watch at 8:08 how his front hand (right hand) extends and puts the blocker up twice in a row but then he corrects it. awesome to see he's aware.
+Fruit Living He seem to really angle his hand to get some lift along those glide and like you mention he do realize that the angle of attack now is too high.

mimichaten Can a cardio training from cycling be transfer to swimming stamina may I ask?
+Lindsay Coburn 66788ygy8y
That swimming at the end was fast. Not just fast for the end of a 1500, fast.
I am a swimmer, and I know what you are talking about. It's just that I have a hard time believing that Grant Hackett could be beaten in such a fashion. Sun Yang just became gold medalist at London 2012 and broke world record again!
Hackett's 14:34.56 was the only long course record that survived the two years of the suits
Just shows how good a swim that and this was.
Hermosos dientes... un capo
15:10 sounds like a fucking girl! I don't blame him though, sheesh, I would have been swearing my ass off and losing my job xD
Now we know why
Keep politics out of RUclips, chap. Doesn't have anything to do with swimming
he may get it, he may get it, he get it!!
he is a fish! definitely!
Pretty good idea
the speed
Well Done!!!
amazing
YEAH!!!
haha, that undetectable drug would most likely got its use on Chinese men's soccer team first... you have to think like this, Sun Yang would be superman more than 100 superman if he really used drugs like you said, same as Ye shiWen, and more, see his legs in the beginning, he did not use any full power to swim, others did, he just went like a fish

So first you say every race and color can swim just fine. Second you say that U.S has the "ADVANTAGE" of using every race in teams. Logical?
The China team are here training in Bath before heading up to London for the Olympics, ITS SO EXCITING ARGH!
He's kinda half way,he kicks a bit more and glides a bit less, but there is hell a lot of stretching indeed :)
if another country does something that seems impossible to you, then OH IT MUST BE DRUGS isnt it?
For 6:50 min I can only finish a 400m swim... And for 1500m? Probs 1/3 as good as him. He's such a champ!
I think the Title has a mistake, It should be August 4, 2012 1500M Men Free style.
Sun Yang's false start was excused in the 2012 London Olympics 1500m free style
yea, its unbeliveable, i have 55sec on a 25m pool, how the hell he did that ;o
This isn't really the full video. They cut out from 500m to 750m.
In the last 50m ...it just looked like he had a propeller...... ;)
lol... and "you a hated here" is not being a bully.... wow.
