Love to see your yard Kitty! 😻
This tractor s like the first big rig ever rode in. From East Tn to Hunts Point in NYC and back. Good memories.
That's a good size yard lion right there. Was good to see you using the old Dodge too.
Great that you came out in the black on the old freightliner. That's one ferocious guard cat you have.🤣
That guy got a heck of a deal on those aluminum wheels. Those old ball and set aluminum wheels usually go for 175 a piece.
Wow, that thing has been in the background of so many videos, glad to see you doing something with it, great video, thumbs up
Incase you need a title in the future. You can go through Vermont. They have what's called the Vermont loop hole. They register it and with the registration from them all state have to abide and register it. And if your state still issues titles on older vehicles than you can do it that way when you register back in your state. Just did this on a 2006 crown Victoria I bought to scrap. But it run and drove great so just did a little paper work and now it's my daily driver
Hi, Silas. I really enjoyed the video and especially the music was pretty good too as well. Too bad that you couldn't sell the whole semi to someone but it is what it is. My dad once told my mom, when she wanted to keep some old furniture and other things just in case someone might need them, that you can't save everything. Some things need to go or soon you won't have enough room to live. Take care of yourself Silas.
It's good seeing the dodge putting in work
I see that plumbing company van behind you, Forshee Plumbing. That is a relative. My grandfather's sister's last name (married) was Forshee, pronounced Forshay. She had a farm in the Bayard Nebraska area. We used to visit in the 1950's when I was a kid. Like your videos, thanks for doing them. Sorry to see the old Freightliner go, as I put a million miles on one!! Thanks again, retired ol ron.
That's a nice rig, and somebody take that rig to a shop. Take it to shop and resolve it here
If that old Freightliner could talk!!
You could make GIANT junk-o-lanterns out of those Freightliner fuel tanks.
Like your epic new video intro!
PS - Nice deconstruction of the semi. Didn’t know you were a tree surgeon.
I used to be a resale sometime parting things out make more money but the time it takes don't pay off in the end.
$500 for those wheels seems like a heck of a deal! This was a fun watch.
plus $600 for the transmission and engine was seriously low
Agreed , that is a bargain,
@@Scottybravo1 I had them advertised for $1,000 for almost a year with no luck. Next step was scrap them for $400
Cool👍😊
Surprised you didn't make a wall hanger
Someone got a sweet deal on that motor and transmission you can not rebuild one for 600
Brilliant video, hi from Scotland .
Now that you’ve scrapped the truck someone is gonna say they would have given 5 grand for it. 😂
If that had a title it’d be a 10k truck. It’s too bad nobody bothered to try and get one.
@@mintyman1968 12.5 k
That’s how it goes. Some day I’m going to find a car and an identical twin. Crush the twin car and when everyone says they would have paid $$$, I’ll offer the original and see what their excuse is 😆
@@AdventuresMadeFromScratch If I would’ve known it was a part out I know a fellow who would’ve bought the hood, cab fairings, fuel tanks and maybe interior pieces
@@AdventuresMadeFromScratch i was blowin minty man shit silas ....i love watching u smash stuff .....no need in explaining its ur stuff man ...do what cha like ..... i do love the twin thing ,,,,HA oh i would gave ya 2 k ..."oh really i have another exactly like that onw when can i sexcpect u to pick it up" ...LMOa
Although sorry to see such a gallant old rig die this way, I agree it was time. I shared this video and even emailed different folks about this truck, some only a few short miles from you and they were looking for trucks. I really did do all I could. I live in alaska, and am seventy three so going myself to get it was just not in the cards. I doubt you read this but stranger things do happen
People looking for a truck want to drive it people looking for parts probably would've been the ones to go to but that engine is a farm truck engine not a daily driven engine
@@davidwoermansr I like someone to try to defend someone for their actions. I like Silas and agree with his actions. I also have owned and was a professional driver of a fleet of trucks. I have been a professional mechanic for a large portion of my life as most know to run a business of large trucks, both highway and off highway rigs.... you should know how to work on them. I started working for my dad in the late fifties as a helper to him. I am a native man who was not allowed to go to white schools..,.. just the way things were then. I hold no offense to this as I got my own education in the army as well as working in the motor pool for two years certifications earned were in diesel mechanics. I have heard of tuning a engine for farm applications or as a unrestricted fuel engine because of not needing to pass emissions for the highway. All said and done,... no such thing as a farm truck if its hauling grain to market... those trucks... example is Welker farms, they did shows showing rebuilds of their farm licenced trucks that had to haul grain (Products) to their markets or even cole the cornstar has some videos of his brother and their working hard on trucks they pick up to fix for farms or highway use. I will never make a statement to lead you or anyone else wrong about the mechanical stuff because it was my bread and butter for a good many years. If you mention my first name Morgan in the southeast alaska communities, you will find I was known by that name as a good mechanic and machinist/fab work from the late seventies up to 84. I only moved to anchorage to keep my son alive as long as I could. He had infantile Leukemia. I spent from my own pocket every dime I had including selling everything I had to do this. He came down with this horribly deadly disease on his mom's birthday in october.. and in the start of two years or twenty months later, on june twelfth at 2:26 pm, he looked at me knowing I and his mother were by him said I love you momma and po.... gone! I am sorry for a very poorly structured sentence or all of them for that matter. English to me is almost a second language as we spoke our Hyda language as much as possible for Nana or grand mother was only able to speak the native tongue so respect for her was extremely high. If I offended you by replying with poor english, I humbly apologize for it and just cuss me as many do not like the native man. I had five very beautiful daughters and there was no shortage of boys calling.... mostly white boys as our numbers are not high in the population and we do not intermarry among ourselves. I now am way off of subject.. Almost any later model engine put out by cummins or other major manufactures have records of their engines as warranty and many parts are only one engine series specific so ordering say a water pump. You put in year, model and applications to find it and it will come back with long or short shaft, high mount or low mount style (ask any repair shop that does professional work)... you just can't give too much information on your engine or other parts .. information is your best lead or friend. I agree that people like to test a engine or whole rig and Silas mentioned he was selling it as a parts rig for the title would prove hard to replace and anyone going to DMV, will attest to how its quite hard to get titles that are lost or a rig just abandoned to field, or wrecking yards...etc. Any transmission that would fit this truck.. even a bad transmission, say case is cracked in a wreck would cost more than he asked for this rig. I can tell you that until a Chinese nock off came to be, radiators will for big rigs cost as in a range of used about a thousand and rebuilt are high, no one works for free. A new radiator is probably and now just guessing at prices, I haven't bought parts now for a quite a few years. After I got crippled up in 2005, i worked as a parts consultant until my health put my on dialysis which just finally took me out. I am sorry I have wasted a good portion of your day trying to read something our gradeschool children could do much better at. In a longest reply to your statement of a farm engine, this was not a farm only truck because it carried licence and required lighting, exhaust, mud flaps, etc that are obvious to a persons eye. That truck was capable of being driven to anywhere in state or depending on his carrier permits able to go across country just like any other highway truck. I sent this by personal e-mail to Gentry and sons located in Tennessee this truck was available. I have spoke only by email with Tim and so with the many he has subscribed... I really doubt he would remember me by name or other as he has no reason to. I really do like helping some find pieces or parts for different stuff if I can.... this reply is just way way too long. I in short am saying this is not a farm only engine and even if it was, a block that could be rebuilt is in the range of a couple thousand dollars and shall say if you can even find a able to run engine for that price. I could go on for days and to tell the truth said too much. So sorry if I offended you
Huh
@@davidwoermansr how do you figure that's not a daily driver Cummins is the only engine you can get in new trucks today that was a great engine not a farm engine it's more popular then Detroit or cats even though people want cats more but you can't get rebuild parts for them now same with Detroit's there hard to get but there are parts for the older Cummins
@@timatwell3728 it just wasn't a dependable enough engine to be desired in OTR rigs that's why they're commonly found on farms they don't see as many miles in several years as an OTR truck sees every year
If you were in WA I would of bought it.
No, it will be reloaded with future video material.😂 Stashing it is part of the business
Silly me when it came to a tree, 🌴 I was waiting for you to get you saw out and cut it. What you do with that loader I'm sure I'm not the only one that's envy of you having that. But you got to do so much just to justify the cost and upkeep of such a piece of equipment as well. Enjoy both of your channels as always.
Thanks for the great content.
Have you been using the building you put the roof on
Sweet I was waiting for this video :)😊
Oh shitt what do we had a video out for that I would have come about it I was looking for you semi-auto cheapside for a project
My uncle Rick had a 1991 FLD flattop sleeper like that one when I was a kid. Sad to see that one die.
I'd freaking love to work at a junk yard in the usa only problem is no one wants to offer work to a foreigner and all the visa stuff but dam I could have some fun and get paid to work on cool stuff
Regarding the empty dumpster:
Fill it with garbage,
Fill it with scrap,
Fill it with tires,
Fill it with crap.
Fill it with loose parts,
Some this and some that,
Just kindly remember,
Don't toss it that cat!
Loved seeing your guard cat, they so special. To me thats what makes these things interesting, is the adding normal every day stuff in them, guard cat was wonderful. Thats for some relief from tv.
15:32 Rather than a table, try to find the dinette from an RV. That would give you the table and two bench seats with the whole deal folding down into a bed. Kill two birds with one stone, as it were.
Is the old blue truck for sale that was in the background it looks like you have 2 of them.
Love the new intro
A friend of mine needs the grille of the hood his name is James Pretty he is on youtube he has a FLD with no grille
Yeah I just talked with him he said he could’ve used them parts
Good video 📸
where do you advertise the truck parts tor sale? I'm looking for Peterbilt cabovers.
I junked a old gmc cab over while back i listed it for sale for current junk price whatever it would scale for i would of sold it for and everyone told me i was to high so i took it to the crusher then ppl got upset saying how they would of bought it smh eaiser to just junk it then deal with low ball tire kickers
hey i want the emblems off the truck before it’s scrapped
Time is money and a business guy like Silas isn’t going to have time to get that tractor titled. As some said, worth more with title but it is what it is. Glad he was able to make more than the asking price. The buyer got a sweet deal on the engine and trans
Why do I constantly see things on the internet that nobody wants or really cheap, but when I try to buy the same thing it costs a ton of money. :)
The same thing happens to me. If I have it, it’s junk. If someone else has it, it’s priceless 😆
Somebody probably would have bought it if the paperwork wasn’t buggered. Paperwork can be a pain in the butt to deal with.
And the rear cutoff is worth a lot like you said but unfortunately most guys cut it just like you did. Without leaving a desirable length hanging off the front. Like 3 or 4 foot Otherwise not a lot worth saving unless the hood was in good shape. That’s about 1500-2000$
Other trucks need parts while donor vehicles are often not economic to return to service. For anyone serious two grand would have been pocket change since it's got many salvageable components. Better to scrap it and get paid because business is business (and is why that truck existed in the first place). Low prices were because even a year ago the economy was sagging....
Six bolts hold the fairings on and they come off in all one piece. And are worth about a thousand dollars. Just go ahead and ruin them for the 80$ worth of aluminum
You should have bought them for $150 when they were for sale 😆
@@AdventuresMadeFromScratch I would have never heard of you before you scrapped it.
Those fuel tanks would have made some cool junk o lanterns. But 200 for them saves you the work.
I wonder did you try offering the estate people an incentive for finding the title? It would be worth it. Ifin you gave them $500 i bet you could get 6K outa the truck.
We paid them $40,000. If they weren’t willing to get a title for $40k, I doubt another $500 would do it. Not worth the hassle anyway.
Is that the same place the black GMC came from??? That was such a neat cleanup
Correct. That one got saved
Whats the name of your junkyard gaurd cat?
Hope you pulled the gauges ? I just sold a voltage gauge from a 2000 for $75.
I’m just not in to selling parts. I did that for over a decade and got very burned out.
@@AdventuresMadeFromScratch I don’t blame you I have a ton of stuff from doing storage units and junk removal and figuring out what some of this stuff is sometimes is harsh and time consuming. We both know time is valuable.
stay healthy 🙃
You just didn't try to advertise it on the Russian market. In this case, there should be no problems with the sale, most likely.
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 what would you have to have for the fram out of one of those busses ?????
How much is the big truck
Scrap metal isn't bringing squat in South Carolina. 580 lbs brought 23 dollars yesterday.
A solar panel and an air conditioner in the bus window oooyaaaa
The bbq looks good
Silas : was there an old cb radio in that cab ?
???? How much do you spend monthly on the gas tanks for the torches you use. To cut vehicle's up??
Very little actually. I have 10 oxygen bottles and 3 propane. I spend about $500 per year
i have emailed you a few times about this truck a few times never got a response i would have bought it however i dont have the money right now so it is not in the cards
You have lots to scrap there bring your crusher and start smashing
Dang bro wish I would have found this before you scraped it I would have gave you 3,000 for it I’ve been looking for an old fld for years I grew up riding in them breaks my heart to see it ripped apart like this
I thought you had to have the title to salvage a vehicle.
I have my truck license..I have no idea about big trucks do they have an expired date or something ? Not many older trucks around
.do see the odd older truck.
After trucks in the U.S. go for 5 or 6 years (or 800K to 900K miles) they are usually sold to Mexican trucking firms. Less regulations
and maintenance costs south of the border. Also, companies in the U.S. try to (generally) keep newer trucks to retain drivers.
I fixed so many of those
who the hell was the huge guy in the pajamas?he didnt have to get all dressed up to go to your yard!!!lol.maybe he was going to walmart after dealing with you!lol
would you have a radio with a cd player an how much to ship to maine
In Maine also, Walmart sells them, 🤔
You forgot to add the worth of the copper radiator to the total :)
He said 400
in a junkyard far far away....
it probably could have driven many miles yet the world must have enough money
I know a guy tassat has 2 of them his name is James pretty
the truck was cut up for scrap
wow, should of been more than that , i guess metal is just low right now..
Metal is way up
@@AdventuresMadeFromScratch oh ok,
U should have sold the wheels for 300 a piece. Do u know what a truck tire and aluminum rim costs?? And 600 for a rebuilt pre emissions cummins and tranny?? U gave that stuff away😂 that cat is fat from all the mice hes catching. He earns his keep
.... FLD120 ....
I would have gave him 2700
I know you tried with this one, but it seems like everyone hates these Freightshakers.
Yeah....I drove long-haul for 22 years and drove several different brands. Never really cared for Freightliners that much.
And since I was a company driver, I never had to work on them - I always liked Volvos the best. Comfortable and modern design.
@@urbanurchin5930 I don't drive them, just make models of them. I see them as a bunch of components made by different companies. I think these are a nice looking truck when taken care of, not as nice as a W9 but that's just me. I just see a lot of videos where people just thrash these FLDs.
How much aluminum was the scrap in aluminum with the tanks
He sold the tanks to the guy who bought the engine for 200.
Try watching a little closer eh
I'm really surprised that nobody has wanted to buy the mirrors 🪞 off the truck..trucks are always getting mirrors smashed by others who can't drive or back in worth a darn...
I can't watch.
Weak sauce
Someone needs to take his torch privileges away😂
damn what a shame but without a clear title and the registered owners family not wanting to deal with it its a parts rig no title can become a complete disaster lol
They aren’t his family was the problem I think. Wasn’t that important to them, which I guess I can understand. They sold it to us for scrap price so we can’t complain
is that your cat?
No, it's the cat's Silas.
😉👍
I'm surprised that you wouldn't make an attempt to get that semi going, and get a trailer to haul of your heavy stuff that you constantly need bigger trailers or roll backs for. Certainly, if you kept that truck for, say, 10 years, it would pay for itself.
Can't tag it without a title
Titles are where the money is with solid running trucks. Unfortunately
2 more years and it would have been an antique, then a title would have cost $40. I had a ton of fun tearing it apart tho, so that’s worth something by itself.
Six hundred dollars for engine and transmission is a bargain.
That was a beautiful truck in its day, but it cannot sit there forever, and you have lots of reasons for geiitng rid of it, people nowadays want gold for thier stuff and dont want to pay ANYTHING for yours, every price you have quoted on your stuff has been anywhere from reasonable to excellent, keep doing what you do,Silas, and i will continue to watch.
Is this my uncle RON from Texas?
Thanks Silas for another awesome entertaining video! Keep ‘em coming
I would take a Cummins any day over a cat
* Shame to think that truck cost guys every month for 20 - 30 yrs to pay off and now no one wants it. Ok Silas I'm gonna hang with ya for lunch ! I'll cover the bill ! I love BBQ ! 🔥😇🔥
Thanks Silas, at least you made some extra money and some people got parts at bargain prices! I don't get how people can say you sell too cheap, but won't drive a few hundred miles to get a good deal!
That's a big ol boy at 4:26.....
You’re saving memories buddy much love reminds me of my childhood, watching you. Peace be with you my friend.
We have to look at scrap you are allowing people to buy. Some scrappers won't sell anything to the public. Having cats is good, they will help keep the mouse population down. Great video.
The difference between a salvage yard and scrap yard is you can buy stuff at a salvage yard
Another enjoyable 20 min. spent. I also enjoy seeing your sub numbers going up. See ya on your next one!
I hope you let us watch as you take that tree out. Interesting as always Silas. Stay safe.😊
Hi! Last summer I started subscribing to your channel. It was a little challenging - you speak quite fast! Now I get you all the time. You should really know how much I like your: use of time lapse, your choice of music and just being invited to see your daily day life! And then I really like to see your skills handling your big machine so delicately. Bravo!
Glad that you made money on the semi Silas. I'm also happy to see your old Dodge pickup back at work.
